Chapter 42 Where could she be?
Willowbrook Estate.
Sebastian stood in the living room, hands behind his back, with a pale face and broken porcelain scattered at his feet, making a mess.
"So many trained bodyguards, and yet they can't even find a woman?"
"It's been five hours! Do you know that the longer it takes, the higher the chance of her being in danger?!"
"If you can't find her, don't show up in front of me. Go collect your punishment on your own!"
"Useless, all useless!"
When Sebastian spoke with anger, he kicked the tea table over with a direct kick.
No one dared to breathe, and the two bodyguards sent to protect Isabella were kneeling on the ground, unable to lift their heads.
If something happened to Madame... they would be done for.
"Keep searching!" Sebastian said, "Keep looking for her! Review the surveillance footage carefully, find any clues!"
"Yes... yes, Mr. Lawrence."
The television in the living room was silently playing, and the butler suddenly said, "Isn't that Mr. Sinclair?"
Sebastian looked up and saw that it was the live broadcast of the press conference he was supposed to attend this afternoon.
"Turn up the volume."
"Of course, Mr. Lawrence."
The voice of the announcer came from the television—
"Today, Lawrence Group's smartphone brand held a new product launch event in which Senior Vice President Joshua attended. During the question and answer session with the media, when asked why Mr. Lawrence did not appear, General Manager Jiang revealed the news that Mr. Lawrence is already married."
"It is reported that the current president of Lawrence Group, Sebastian, is young and promising, yet has no scandals and remains mysterious and low-key..."
Sebastian pressed his temple.
Everything was going according to his plan, without any deviations, until Isabella disappeared.
Everything became chaotic, Sebastian currently had no thoughts to deal with anything else, he could only think about where Isabella was.
Where could she be?
If... if she was gone, then what should he do?
Sebastian's heart suddenly felt empty, as if something wanted to be pulled out from his chest.
He slowly raised his hand and placed it over his heart.
"Mr. Lawrence," the butler noticed his abnormality, "Is everything alright?"
"It's nothing," he furrowed his brow, "Keep the news about Isabella being taken and disappearing to yourself for now, don't let it spread."
"Understood."
Sebastian had encountered more challenging situations before.
In business negotiations, acquiring resources, and even psychological warfare, he was always able to accurately guess the opponent's strategy and thoughts in order to achieve his own goals.
But this time... Sebastian had absolutely no clue.
If it was a kidnapping, why hasn't the kidnapper contacted him after five hours?
If it was a ransom, he still hadn't received any messages asking for money.
He didn't dare to think about other possibilities, couldn't think about them, didn't want to think about them.
"Isabella," Sebastian muttered softly to himself, "You better be alive and well!"
As the sky gradually darkened, the clear sky slowly faded away and the moon emerged.
The curtain of darkness fell.
The phone kept ringing repeatedly, those people kept telling Sebastian over and over again that they hadn't found any trace of his wife.
It wasn't until 8 o'clock that they finally received a message.
"Mr. Lawrence," the person who had been keeping watch at the hospital said, "Watching the surveillance footage, we spotted a suspicious vehicle and the driver's silhouette, it seems to resemble the person who followed your wife into the stairwell..."
"Find out where that car went immediately."
"Yes!"
Finally, some progress had been made.
With so many surveillance cameras on the roads, if they could track the whereabouts of the car, the chances of finding Isabella would be greater.
After some consideration, Sebastian grabbed his car keys and hurriedly left the house.
Sitting in the driver's seat, he put on his Bluetooth earpiece, "Keep me informed of the car's route in real-time."
"Alright, Mr. Lawrence.”
"He followed the exact same trajectory as the car... driving step by step.
In the outskirts, within the forest.
Underneath a tree root, a sack suddenly moved.
Isabella opened her eyes, feeling dizzy and heavy, as if she was about to explode, with little stars still floating in front of her eyes.
After pausing for a moment, she regained some strength and awareness, only to realize that she was trapped inside a bag.
She exerted all her strength to tear, pull, and bite, finally managing to crawl out from inside with difficulty.
Taking a look around, Isabella only then discovered... she was in a dense and quiet forest, with occasional hair-raising sounds.
"Where, where is this?" she muttered to herself, "How did I end up here?"
Her memories before getting knocked out gradually came back, and Isabella widened her eyes in terror.
Right now, she was... kidnapped and abandoned in the wilderness!
Without much time to think, Isabella struggled to get up, intending to find her way out, to reach a place with people, where she had a chance of being saved.
But, which way should she go?
Forward? Backward? Left? Or maybe right?
Just as she hesitated, there was suddenly something on her foot, crawling up along her shoe, with a particularly fast movement.
Isabella lowered her head and, with the moon's bright light, she discovered it was a...
Spider!
A spider the size of her palm!
"Ah!" Isabella let out a piercing scream, closing her eyes and frantically shaking it off, running forward without caring for her life.
On the side of the road, Sebastian was driving when suddenly he heard a woman's scream.
He immediately hit the brakes, rolled down the window, but there was no sound.
Was it his imagination?
But he clearly heard something just now.
Was he too worried about Isabella, too nervous?
Sebastian parked the car on the side of the road and spoke into his earpiece, "According to my car's GPS location, send someone right away."
"Yes, Mr. Lawrence."
He looked across the river at the opposite woods.
This was the outskirts of New York. Sebastian had driven for an hour and a half from Willowbrook Estate, the road was winding and narrow, with very few passing cars, let alone people.
The sound he just heard... seemed to have come from this area.
Isabella ran far, far away until she couldn't go on any longer. She stopped, gasping for air with big breaths, her strength failing, and sat down on the ground.
She didn't have much strength left. No, she couldn't run like this anymore.
She had to get out of this forest, find someone for help, or else... even if she didn't starve, exhaust, or thirst to death here, she would be scared to death.
Inside here, not to mention a spider as big as the one just now, Isabella had never seen anything like it before, there must be rats, snakes, and the like.
Just the thought of it made Isabella's scalp tingle and her body shiver.
She picked up a relatively sturdy-looking branch to use as a weapon.
"Who could have such a huge grudge against me... knocking me out and throwing me here, not wanting to do it themselves but wanting me dead?"
"Sharon? Unlikely, she's too preoccupied, where would she find the time to play a prank on me?"
"The manager of the Southern Mansion? Unlikely... she wouldn't go this far unless she didn't want to live."
"Grace? Yes, Grace! It must be her! I just argued with her, and right after she sent someone to capture me! Huh... it doesn't seem so fast though."
"But I only have these two enemies, and Grace only because of Sebastian..."
Isabella muttered to herself, on one hand, she was talking to herself to boost her courage, on the other hand, she was forcing herself to gather her spirits.
Surviving was the most important.
But when she looked up and saw the snake hanging from the branch, Isabella's heart nearly stopped beating.
Her legs went weak, she wanted to cry, wanted to scream, but she held it in.
Isabella gingerly and slowly moved her feet, avoiding the tree with the snake, biting her lower lip, and walking away.
When she was sure she had put a safe distance between them, she dared to sprint, crying and running.
