Chapter 118: She, the Piece in His Hands
"What the heck is this?" Isabella couldn't help but feel like she was being toyed with after he made a show of it all and gave her such a statement.
"Hey!" Isabella felt a sense of being mocked. "Are you playing games with me?"
Sebastian stood up straight, his hand casually tucked into his pocket as he walked towards the restaurant.
"Are you really capable of doing this?" Isabella couldn't believe his actions. "You relentlessly ask me about Anthony’s affairs, but when I ask you about Lynda, you brush me off?"
Casually, he asked back, "Don't you want to eat? Skipping breakfast isn't good for your stomach."
"You..." Isabella followed closely behind him, incessantly talking. "You clearly don't want to answer me!"
Sebastian continued walking forward. "Since you already know, why bother asking?"
She continued to follow him. "I don't want to be the fool! I even covered for you. And what happened? Before I arrived, you already had a confrontation with grandpa, and I foolishly played along with your act."
"When you left the villa, didn't you notice that something was off?" Sebastian interrupted her.
"I did notice, but how would I know..."
Sebastian stopped in his tracks at the entrance of the restaurant upon hearing her words.
Isabella didn't stop in time and bumped into him. "Ouch..."
Sebastian looked back at her. "It wasn't me who had Lynda return."
"Huh?"
"She came back on her own." Sebastian said. "But if she wants to stay, then so be it."
Isabella immediately asked, "According to your plan, when did you want her to come back?"
"I..." He was about to answer but suddenly thought of something and glanced at her. "Why should I tell you?"
"Sebastian!"
He enjoyed teasing her. Who does he think he is?
It's one thing to joke around, but this is a serious matter, and he still had such a nonchalant attitude.
It's too infuriating!
"Even if Lynda returned on her own, but when she came back, you were the first one to see her and know about it, aren't you going to hide her from the family?" Isabella's tone was pleading.
Sebastian looked down and playfully tapped her head with his finger. "Why don't you think about it? Maybe I wanted the Lawrence family to find her."
Isabella didn't understand. "What do you mean?"
"Sooner or later, the Lawrence family will find out, and she even arrived at Willow Brook Estate."
Sebastian looked towards the butler. "Within Willow Brook Estate, it is not without grandpa's surveillance."
Isabella also looked at the butler.
So, grandpa could discover things so quickly...
It's because of the people on the old mansion side of Willow Brook Estate...
The butler standing by the dining table shivered, "Mr. Lawrence, I... I'll do it right away..."
"No need," Sebastian said indifferently, "It doesn't concern you."
The butler lowered his head, "Yes."
Isabella became more curious, "You knew all along? Then why didn't you clean up these clues?"
"Leave them," Sebastian said, "There's nothing much to worry about at Willow Brook Estate, but it's something my grandfather shouldn't know about."
"Well..."
Oh no, if her and Sebastian's flirtatious interactions caught the interest of the old master, and he asked, everyone in Willow Brook Estate would talk!
Isabella's mind quickly pondered, did she and Sebastian engage in any intimate or embarrassing behavior in front of the servants, security guards, or anyone else?
Unfortunately, the more anxious she became, the less she could remember anything.
"What are you doing standing there?" Sebastian's voice came, "If we keep delaying, we'll be late."
Isabella hurriedly took her seat at the dining table.
Sebastian glanced at her, "Why is your face turning red?"
"Huh? Is it?" she touched her own face, "I don't think so."
"What are you thinking about, hmm?"
"Nothing, nothing," Isabella lowered her head and aimlessly stirred her porridge with a spoon, "It's just your imagination."
Experiencing such a drama early in the morning, this day was truly exhilarating.
On the way to Lawrence Group, Sebastian habitually took out his phone and started replying to emails in his inbox.
He always made use of this fragmented time, never idle.
Isabella took a sip from her milk bottle, looked at him, and asked, "How can you act so nonchalant?"
Sebastian didn't even lift his head, "Is there something else?"
"Grandfather won't just let it go like that. What are you planning to do next?"
"It's not about what I will do, it's about what you will do."
Isabella pointed at herself, "Me?"
Sebastian replied calmly, "Didn't you say to grandfather that you wanted to talk to me?"
"Yes, to talk to you," Isabella said, "Now we can talk."
"We made that agreement the night I met you," Sebastian finally looked at her, then lowered his head again, "Isn't that, right?"
Suddenly, the milk in her mouth tasted bitter.
"Yeah..." Isabella murmured to herself, "That night, when you picked me up from the Cooper family's gate, you made it clear to me."
Why did she only understand now?
At that time... everything had already been predetermined, orchestrated by Sebastian like a game of chess.
He...
The person playing chess, and she, was the chess piece in his hand.
Now, it was her turn to play her part.
"I understand," Isabella said, struggling to swallow her milk. "I know what I must do."
Sebastian responded with a faint "Hmm."
Silence filled the car.
No wonder Sebastian didn't pay much attention. It turns out, it all depended on her acting.
She was a character in a play, performing... for the Lawrence family, for the people of New York, and for Lynda.
The Lawrence Group.
Everything seemed normal, as usual, going to work as usual.
But Isabella knew, things had changed, many things had changed.
Kaine reported on the morning schedule, "Mr. Lawrence, there is a meeting at ten o'clock, about half an hour. At eleven, Mr. Walter wants to meet you, and at eleven-thirty…"
Sebastian suddenly stopped in his tracks.
"Bo... Mr. Lawrence?" Kaine was confused. "What's the matter? Do you have any problems?"
"Isabella," Sebastian turned around and glanced at her. "Come with me to the meeting. Do what needs to be done, just like before, understand?"
She didn't really want to go, if she could avoid seeing Sebastian, she would.
"But it's only a half-hour meeting..."
"Feeling like it's not enough work?" Sebastian said. "Very well, Kaine, give her the meeting records and materials. You, stay in the secretary's office."
Kaine hesitated, "Mr. Lawrence, this doesn't seem..."
"Do I need to repeat myself?"
"Yes, Mr. Lawrence."
Isabella scoffed, "Are you trying to exploit my labor?"
He coldly replied, "I can afford to pay you."
"Hmph."
