Chapter 331 I Wanted to Have a Home with You
By uttering those words, he clearly admitted that he had indeed overheard Isabella and Brittany's conversation at the airport when they were waiting for Larry's arrival.
"Because I remember clearly that my tone should have been harsh back then. I literally said, 'I don't love you.' But at that time, I didn't dare love you, didn't want to face the reality of loving you, so I hinted it to myself."
As Isabella recollected slowly, her voice trembled and choked up slightly. She sniffed, looked up, and continued, "I've said it many, many times since then..."
With each word, Isabella's voice shook, and she sniffed, tears still in her eyes, as she stared at Sebastian. "I've said many harsh things, which made you feel the pain in your innermost being. Will you still believe I love you?"
Sebastian felt like he had been struck hard by a hammer, his entire being tingling from skin to flesh, from flesh to bone, numb all over.
Love was just a single word, and it wielded such immense power. But he accepted it.
Turmoil rolled in his eyes, gradually turning his eyes dark, his gaze upon Isabella becoming fierce as if hunting prey.
Without waiting for his answer, Isabella repeated her question slowly, "Will you still believe that I truly love you and have always loved you, Sebastian? Every word I say today is true. If there's a lie, then... may I be struck by lightning!"
Isabella grew anxious, waiting for his response. Instead, she received a torrent of kisses.
Her pupils contracted.
The kiss was aggressive, intense, and dominant, leaving Isabella's mind blank.
Isabella had no escape, backing away until there was nowhere else to retreat. She voluntarily circled her arms around Sebastian's neck, fiercely returning his kiss.
As the kiss continued, Isabella tasted blood, along with the saltiness of tears.
She wasn't one to weep, yet tears had fallen countless times today.
Sebastian stole her breath, and she feared that she might make the headlines tomorrow for being kissed to death.
With a gasp, Isabella reached out to push Sebastian.
Her palm pressed against his chest, feeling Sebastian's heartbeat racing faster than before.
She distinctly felt the rhythm of Sebastian's heartbeat as if it were about to burst through his chest.
It was like a volcano that was ready to erupt, just a layer of skin away, ready to spew at any moment.
Isabella keenly felt Sebastian's affection.
How could his heart beat so violently if he didn't love her?
"Do you believe me?" his hoarse voice sounded from above.
Isabella was so startled by Sebastian's heartbeat that she didn't realize when he had let her go.
She looked at Sebastian.
Since she was now holding onto Sebastian's neck, he had his hands pressed against the door panel, bending over and trapping her within his arms.
He gazed at her, repeating the question, "Do you trust me? Do you trust me as I trust you?"
With red-rimmed eyes, Isabella, after a moment of stiffness, her shoulders trembling, nodded continuously. "I do. I trust you."
Love was tantamount to trust.
To believe in love, to embrace it.
"I'm sorry." Isabella released her hold on Sebastian's neck, tears streaking her face. Her voice was choked with emotion as she stared directly at him. "I'm sorry for the things I said in anger. I'm sorry for not trusting you... I'm sorry."
"It wasn't intentional, I... I'm sorry, truly sorry."
The pain in Isabella's heart surged overwhelmingly. The hurtful words from before pierced Sebastian, and now pierced her heart once more.
Isabella couldn't think of anything else besides apologizing.
Sebastian's eyes darkened. He wrapped his arm tightly around Isabella's waist, reaching his other hand to the back of her head, pulling her close against his shoulder.
He lowered his head slightly and whispered in Isabella's ear, "It hurts."
Bewildered, Isabella froze.
Then Sebastian continued, "I was in pain, too. We inflicted a great deal of pain on each other, didn't we? The suffering was shared, wasn't it? We endured the pain in unison."
Sebastian held Isabella tightly, his embrace so strong that it felt like he might crush her within his arms.
Isabella understood Sebastian's words without even thinking. Just like her, he must have felt the pain he had caused her in the past.
Although true empathy might be elusive in this world, emotions resonated deeply between two people in love.
Isabella felt that those wounds weren't as insurmountable.
At least, compared to the sweetness they now shared, those past grievances seemed minuscule.
She was always one to remember the good in others. Now she wanted to let go of everything and love wholeheartedly, and be loved in return.
Isabella held Sebastian's waist tightly, nuzzling her head against his shoulder. "Let's not dwell on the past anymore, okay?"
When those words left her lips, Sebastian was shocked.
Was she really willing to let go of everything?
And Isabella's voice rang clear in his ears, "From today, Sebastian, between you and me, there are no more marriage contracts, no one else, and no more hurt. Just you, me, and our babies. Let's be together happily, shall we?"
Sebastian embraced Isabella, his once-empty heart suddenly filled to the brim.
His heart pounded faster than before, reaching a frequency beyond his control.
"Shall we?" Isabella pulled back from Sebastian, raising her cheeks. Her eyelashes were adorned with dew-like droplets, fluttering lightly like tiny fans.
Her eyes, shining brightly after being cleansed by tears, were striking.
"So, Sebastian, will you give me a home?" Isabella said.
Sebastian heard the thumping of his heartbeat in his ears, one beat after another.
Cupping Isabella's face, he lightly touched her swollen lips, pausing briefly before pulling back.
He felt as though he might be dreaming at that moment.
However, the sensation of their lips touching was so real.
"You know," Isabella said, "I grew up living with my grandmother. My dad cared more for my stepmother and stepdaughters. I've always longed for a home, a sanctuary that truly belongs to me. And I want to build that kind of family with you."
Their eyes locked.
"Isabella..." Sebastian paused for a moment before continuing, "Could you hit me?"
"What?"
"Hit me, use real pain to tell me that this isn't a dream."
It was impossible for her actually to hit him, but—
Isabella ruthlessly pinched his arm.
She used considerable force, yet Sebastian didn't flinch or show any sign of feeling it.
This couldn't be possible. Something was off. How could it not hurt?
"Are you... made of steel?" Isabella asked, "Stop scaring me like this, Sebastian. I'm starting to doubt if I'm dreaming."
Suddenly, Sebastian laughed.
