Chapter 352 Waiting for You to Hold Our Engagement Ceremony

Larry gritted his teeth, each punch landing on Joshua's gut. "Damn you! You pursued her back then! It was you!"

Every word came out through clenched teeth.

Joshua could take a hit from Mary, but not from anyone else.

Even though he was sick, he fought back, trading blows with Larry.

His counterattacks were sharp. Grabbing Larry's collar, his eyes bloodshot, he glared like a lone wolf. "Larry, if you let her down, I won't forgive you!"

No one knew the pain of destroying a beautiful relationship.

What was it like to hand over his love to another man?

Joshua was on the edge, the pain making him feel like he was dying.

Nicole rushed over, trying to stop the fight, but Larry shoved her aside. "Move."

Larry's eyes were bloodshot, seeing something in Joshua's eyes.

"Brittany!" A tense voice from downstairs made him forget about Joshua's odd behavior.

Larry pushed Joshua away, staggering before running out.

Joshua wasn't slower, but when he stepped forward, he had to stop.

He smiled bitterly. How could fate be so cruel?

Brittany had an accident, and he couldn't even see her.

Darkness consumed Joshua. He stepped back, feeling a chill, and slumped onto the sofa.

"Joshua, are you okay?" Nicole's eyes were wide with fear, her face pale. "Are you in pain? Let's go to the hospital."

"Get out." Joshua pushed her away. "I said, don't touch me unless we're acting."

Nicole hesitated, questioning if she was doing the right thing.

Would being Mrs. Sinclair really fill the void in her heart?

Should she give up?

If she did, would she ever see Joshua again?

"I'm going home. I'll be waiting for you to pick me up for the engagement party," Nicole insisted. "I'll wait for you!"

Joshua stayed silent, indifferent, as if she was invisible.

Tears fell from Nicole's eyes as she ran out.

The room fell silent.

Joshua propped himself up, struggling to stand. He walked to the window, looking down.

Downstairs, Brittany was curled up, coughing and trembling. Joshua couldn't see her face clearly, but he knew it was pale.

Mary was beside her, calling out her name, gently patting her back.

Joshua's heart ached. He punched the wall, bruising his hand.

He pulled out a cigarette, lit it with trembling hands, and took a deep drag. The nicotine seeped into his nerves, but the pain in his heart was so intense he began to hallucinate, seeing double.

Joshua dialed a number, cold sweat dripping onto the phone.

Finally, he found Sebastian's number and stammered, "Send a car to take Brittany to the hospital..."

Before he could finish, Larry rushed downstairs, picked up Brittany, and quickly left.

Joshua seemed entranced, staring at Brittany as she faded from view.

The woman he loved, Brittany, was gone, out of sight.

On the other end of the phone, Sebastian was shouting for Joshua, but Joshua couldn't hear a thing. His ears buzzed with a loud ringing.

The phone slipped from Joshua's hand, and he crumpled to the ground like a kite with its string cut.

Joshua collapsed on the carpet, covering his face, tears streaming silently.

Regret, helplessness, pain, despair—all these emotions surged within him.

Even if he had an indestructible body, he might not withstand it. And now, with his failing health, how could he bear it?

Coughing and smiling bitterly, Joshua wondered what he had down to deserve this.

Why was fate so unfair?

Joshua lost his parents young and finally found Sebastian, but now Sebastian couldn't help him in his career, only burden him.

Now, with his health deteriorating, he feared he couldn't even hold the engagement the next day.

The Lawrence Group had many rivals; who knew what vulnerabilities they could exploit?

Joshua had finally caught up with his beloved Brittany, prepared the wedding house, and had the engagement ring ready, planning to cherish her for a lifetime.

But now, a diagnosis of stomach cancer cruelly shattered his hopes, forcing him to push her away.

Joshua didn't know what the point of living like this was; he couldn't see any hope.

Weakly propping up his broken body, he stood by the window.

But as soon as he straightened up, he fell backward uncontrollably.

In the last second before passing out, Joshua saw Brittany, with a dignified smile, walking towards him—

"Joshua, when will you marry me? Should I propose to you, or will you? I can't wait any longer."

Joshua laughed loudly and recklessly. As he closed his eyes, he thought Brittany's smile was truly beautiful.

Weakly raising his hand, he tried to touch Brittany's face. He struggled to lift his hand, only able to touch the air.

Yet, Joshua still smiled, a nearly inaudible sound coming from his mouth.

"How about we meet in the next life, my darling?"

"Deal?"

"I wish you all the best in your life, your marriage, and your family. As for me, I'll simply be a stranger in your story. That's enough."

"Don't bring flowers to my grave. It hurts so much, okay?"

The hallucinations became increasingly blurry, disappearing, and Joshua's eyelashes fluttered as he smiled and closed his eyes.

The room fell into complete silence.

At Willowbrook Estate, Isabella came out of the bathroom after washing up and saw Sebastian furrowing his brow, hurriedly buttoning up his shirt.

He looked flustered, with even one button wrongly fastened.

"What happened?" Isabella tossed the towel onto the cabinet and fetched Sebastian's jacket, handing it to him.

Sebastian frowned, rubbing Isabella's head, and said solemnly, "Company business, just relax and rest."

If it were just about the company, Sebastian wouldn't be so frantic.

Isabella was extremely worried, her brow furrowed with anxiety. She wanted to ask but was afraid of delaying him, so she just nodded.

"Drive safe," she said.

"Okay." Sebastian planted a kiss on her forehead.
