Chapter 412 Don't Mention Divorce

Isabella bit her lip, agonizingly waiting for Sebastian's answer.

Sebastian gazed into Isabella's watery eyes, clearly seeing the anticipation and pleading within them.

He almost blurted out his agreement.

But at the last moment, Sebastian changed his words, "Isabella, give me at most a week. I'll make sure Lynda leaves Maple Valley and never appears in our lives again. After that, no one will disturb us, and our family will be very happy."

As his words said, the matter was settled.

Perhaps because she had no real expectations, Isabella's heart didn't ache as much.

Or maybe her heart was so numb from the pain that she couldn't feel it anymore.

"So, from beginning to end, everything you said didn't count; it was all lies," Isabella withdrew her hand calmly. "Then let's get a divorce."

Previously, it was impulsive. Now, Isabella made the decision calmly.

She was a victim.

She had repeatedly tolerated Sebastian's deceit, choosing to believe him unconditionally, throwing away her dignity, and abandoning her principles. She thought that Sebastian would feel sorry and change his mind.

Who would have thought Sebastian remained so cruel, insisting on protecting Lynda?

She loved him, trusted him, bore children for him, and worked hard for him, but it was all in vain compared to Lynda.

She thought, 'Lynda does not need to do anything. Just stand there, and she can get all of Sebastian's devotion!'

"I've said many times, Lynda is not a stumbling block for us. Don't mention divorce. However you blame me, I'll take it all," Sebastian felt a surge of panic in his heart. Although he frowned, he tried to soften his tone, "Whatever you want, I'll give it to you. The Wallace Group? Shares in the Lawrence Group?"

Sebastian observed Isabella's face, which was growing paler, her lips gradually losing color.

He became a bit anxious, "Money? Designer bags?"

The more Isabella listened, the more she wanted to laugh.

It was so ridiculous that made her speechless.

For months, she had loved him so intensely that she lost herself in the process—striving to be more understanding, more capable, desperately trying to become someone worthy of him.

In the end, to Sebastian, she was just a materialistic, money-hungry woman.

What was more, the so-called benefits Sebastian offered weren't truly meant for her; they were merely a way to make her let go of Lynda.

Isabella felt like a joke.

With a defeated look, she tilted her head back and forced a smile at Sebastian. "Let's not drag this out. Let's get a divorce, Sebastian. I really want out. Let's free both of us, and you can go back to protecting your precious Lynda."

Sebastian's throat tightened, and a burning pain seared through his chest.

He frowned and spoke more gently, "Just this once, Isabella. You can't judge me for one mistake and cut me off entirely. I messed up, and I shouldn't have lied to you. But after this, if you want to lie to me once, you can."

Seeing Isabella's smile, twisted with bitterness, stung him deeply.

He sensed something was off with what he was saying, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly what.

He thought, 'I'm apologizing, trying to make amends—where is the issue?'

"Divorce," Isabella interrupted him, her voice laced with self-mockery. "I think it's best if we just get a divorce. At least I'd get a good chunk of your fortune. After all, you think I'm just a gold digger."

Her words pierced Sebastian's heart like a knife. His face darkened, veins bulging slightly. He couldn't hold back anymore, his voice gravelly with frustration. "Enough. Stop."

Sebastian hadn't meant to hurt her; he was only trying to make things right.

He hadn't anticipated that his attempts at compensation would lead her to utter such self-deprecating words.

"Stop. Just stop. That's enough."Isabella continued, her tone light and mocking, "After the divorce, I'll walk away with half of your assets. I won't have to worry about money for the rest of my life. Being with a wealthy man really is quite comfortable."

Her words flowed effortlessly, as though she had rehearsed them a thousand times.

Sebastian's expression darkened further, but he was beyond caring.

"I didn't mean to insult you," he said through gritted teeth, his heart being torn apart by her scathing remarks. "I just wanted to make things right. If you don't want that, I won't bring it up again."

Isabella had no interest in his explanations. No matter how he tried to justify himself, it wouldn't change anything.

"Fine. If I'm such a saint in Mr. Lawrence's eyes, then let me leave with nothing. Just sign the papers and let's get this over with!"

Suddenly, Isabella was plunged into darkness, her nose colliding with the firm, warm expanse of Sebastian's chest.

He held her tightly as if he were clinging to sanity itself.

The familiar scent of wood and cedar enveloped her, a scent she had come to know from countless embraces.

But this time, all she felt was repulsion.

She fought back, pounding her fists against his chest, shoulders, and waist, scratching and twisting in defiance.

At the same time, Isabella's feet were kicking at Sebastian's legs.

She thought maybe she had gone mad too.

But she couldn't match Sebastian's level of insanity. He only held her tighter, his scent enveloping her completely.

Isabella's face flushed with anger.

She thought, 'Is there anyone more loathsome than Sebastian in this world?'

She knew she couldn't escape the disparity of strength between them, and eventually, she gave up in defeat.

Held in Sebastian's arms, she had no idea how much time passed before he finally let her go.

Before Isabella even realized she had been released, Sebastian had his fingers gripping her chin.

With a scowl, his hand trembled slightly, clearly enraged. "We are not getting a divorce. Isabella, stop bringing it up. You know this marriage has always been under my control. Children, the Wallace family, Grandma—pick any one of these, and you'd be powerless to fight back."

She thought, 'What an arrogant bastard!'

Isabella's face turned a deep shade of red with rage. "See? You've been lying to me all along! You told me our contract was void! It was supposed to be just you and me, no strings attached!"

"True," Sebastian admitted, his fingers tracing the elegant curve of her jaw. "But if you want a divorce now, I have to uphold my marriage, don't I?"

"Why should I get a divorce? It's your fault, Sebastian!" Isabella's eyes welled up, almost mad with frustration. "Please, just let me go. Let's end this…."

Sebastian's gaze hardened, and his fingers moved from her chin to her lips, pressing them shut before she could say the word ‘divorce.'

Isabella thought he was about to kiss her, and wide-eyed, she stepped on his foot.

Sebastian merely chuckled, seemingly unaffected by the pain. He bent down, his nose brushing against hers.

Then, he gently moved his fingers away from her lips and lightly touched them.

His kiss was soft at first, but as it deepened, it turned into a punishment, with his teeth biting down on her lips.

Isabella gasped in pain.
