Chapter 97 How could I dare confront you?
He forced her to look at him, unable to evade, and must face him head on, saying, "I wasn't joking with you."
"I didn't think you were joking either," Isabella said. "I know what Lynda means to you."
Sebastian's eyes narrowed slightly. "How did you know?"
Oops, it seems like I let something slip.
If Sebastian knew that Brittany had told Isabella some things about Lynda, he would surely explode in anger!
So Isabella quickly tried to cover up, "Didn't you just say it yourself? She's your bottom line, someone you can't afford to lose. I can only muster up the courage to confront your bottom line with sheer determination."
"Are you sure?"
"Of course, otherwise, what else could it be?"
"You're lying, Isabella," Sebastian lowered his head, leaning closer to her. "Don't think I can't tell."
"No, I just..."
"Who exactly told you something beforehand?" Sebastian pushed, "Don't make me investigate it."
Isabella held her ground stubbornly, "Really, there's nothing. I figured it out... from your recent attitude towards Lynda."
"I hope that's true."
"It can only be true." She wanted to quickly change the topic, "How could I dare confront you when you hold the key to my life? That would be... courting death."
Strangely, after Sebastian heard her words, he fell silent for several seconds.
During those few seconds, Isabella's heart raced, almost bursting out of her chest, afraid that Sebastian might suspect something.
She couldn't get Brittany involved.
But...
"Isabella," his voice became low, "You better care about the Wallace’s, care about your grandmother."
With that inexplicable remark, Sebastian released her and walked towards the elevator.
Isabella stood in place, not understanding.
What did he mean? What did he mean by saying she should care about the Wallace family?
To her, the Wallace family... was not really a family, and her father was no longer the same as before.
But her grandmother was the most important person in her world.
What was Sebastian trying to convey?
Isabella looked up, and just as the elevator doors slowly closed, she saw Sebastian standing in the middle of the elevator, his slender figure framed like a painting with one hand casually tucked in his pocket.
He was also staring at her.
He continued to watch until the elevator doors completely closed, separating their gazes.
Inside the elevator, Sebastian took out the hand he had clenched in his pocket.
He had been gripping his fist tightly, but didn't want Isabella to notice this action, so he concealed it.
The fact that Lynda had secretly returned without his permission had created a world of new problems for him, something he had been avoiding as he didn’t know how he could resolve this situation without hurting any one of them...
Sebastian is taken aback by his own reaction. But when facing Isabella, he suddenly feels a sense of helplessness. Like a chess player who cannot control the pieces in his hands... how terrifying it is.
“Isabella, for your own sake, and for the sake of the Wallace’s and your grandmother, it's best. Otherwise, I don't know what to do with you if these chips in my hand cannot make you compromise,” Sebastian mutters to himself.
He understands Isabella's personality; she is not someone who will surrender to reality, compromise obediently, or bow down. If there comes a day when she disregards everything, wants nothing, and nothing can restrain her... how will he conquer her?
Perhaps... in Sebastian's mind, only two words flash— a child. A woman becomes strong as a mother, and having a child may be her vulnerable point.
In the underground garage, Lynda sits in the passenger seat with her hands clasped together on her knees, looking ahead. Kaine stands outside the car quietly, waiting for Mr. Lawrence to arrive.
He occasionally glances at Lynda and then looks away, sighing inwardly. Lynda raises her hand and checks the time. She has been sitting here for nearly twenty minutes, and Sebastian has not shown up yet.
What does he want to say to Isabella? This woman could be the most prominent obstacle between her and Sebastian... However, she has returned, back to New York, back to Sebastian's side, and she won't leave again, not even in death.
“Kaine,” Lynda lowers the car window and smiles kindly. “It's been quite a few years since we last saw each other, hasn't it?”
“Yes, Miss. Lynda.”
“During the time I was absent, you helped Sebastian a lot.”
Kaine replies in a very professional manner, “That is my job, my duty.”
“Kaine, you have become more mature and capable than before.”
“Miss Lynda, you flatter me.” Leaning on the car window, Lynda looks at him and says, “You must be well aware of the situation between Sebastian and Isabella.”
:
”As far as Mr. Lawrence’s personal matters are concerned... I am not in a position to inquire, so I am not very familiar with them.”
“You just don't want to talk to me about it.” Lynda still smiles, “But it doesn't matter. Since I'm back, I will gradually come to know many things.”
Kaine glances at her but doesn't say anything. Lynda speaks as if talking to herself, “The person Sebastian has loved from the beginning until the end is me. As for Isabella... Sebastian will compensate her properly and won't let her suffer in vain.”
Kaine keeps his eyes downcast. Miss Lynda and Mrs. Lawrence...
In Mr. Lawrence's heart, who is more important? Perhaps only Mr. Lawrence himself knows best.
Or maybe...
Actually, Mr. Lawrence himself doesn't know who is more important.
The sound of steady footsteps could be heard as Kaine looked up and said, "Mr. Lawrence."
Sebastian got straight into the car, started the engine, and left the underground garage.
Lynda looked at his profile, observing his hand resting on the steering wheel, and her eyes filled with admiration and infatuation.
This flawless and impeccable man belonged to her.
However, Sebastian’s expression was not very good. He barely spoke during the entire journey. Lynda had asked him several questions before he would answer with a single word.
The car stopped in front of a two-story western-style house, a cozy and elegant villa surrounded by a lawn and flower beds. It may not have the luxury and vastness of Willowbrook Estate, but it was warm and pleasant enough.
"I knew it, you would bring me here." Lynda stood in front of the car, marveling at the house.
"I remember saying before that I really liked the design and layout here."
"From now on, you'll live here." Sebastian said, "I will have the staff reassigned here."
Lynda held his hand and asked, "From now on? Sebastian, how long will you let me stay here?"
"...I'm not sure yet."
"I want to live with you." Lynda looked at him. "I will miss you, especially at night."
Sebastian pursed his lips slightly. "I will try to make time to come and accompany you."
Lynda wanted to move into Willowbrook Estate.
But... clearly, he didn't agree.
Lynda tactfully didn't say anything else, but she was still somewhat unhappy in her heart.
