Chapter 235 Lynda and Grace, Partners in Crime

At worse, it was a futile victory.

Isabella let go of the seatbelt, catching her breath at the thought.

Sebastian turned the car around and spoke in a detached manner. "Isabella, there's nothing I hate more than being taken for a fool and being left in the dark; especially by you,"

Just as it had settled, Isabella's heart sprang back up into her throat. She had good cause to believe he was aware of something by now.

What could she do right now?

Lynda was most likely being taken away already.

She wouldn't back down, nor did she have any way out! Why couldn't Sebastian play dirty if Lynda could?

That would be completely oppressive.

Buzz—

Like a bird startled by a bowstring, her phone vibrated and rang.

Sebastian stopped the car at a red light, looked at Isabella. His eyes softened with sorrow for a little while.

However, he then furrowed his eyebrows and said in a heavy voice, "Tell me the truth before I take this call. Whatever it is, I'll let the past go."

Could Lynda be involved in this?

Isabella wasn't convinced at all. "It's green now," she shook her head after a little pause, "We should go."

"Okay."

As he answered the call, the car moved again. "Speak. What did you discover?" he said.

Isabella confirmed her concerns within herself, taking a quick look outside at the rapidly shifting scenery.

Ironically, she snorted at her own ignorance, believing that she could turn the strategies Sebastian had taught her against him. It was utter ignorance - after all, her plan fell apart almost immediately.

The proverb "the student surpasses the master" seemed like something out of a fairy tale for children.

"Mr. Lawrence, the police went to the garden bungalow to find Miss Lynda."

Suddenly, the atmosphere in the car felt thinner.

Sebastian's voice lacked warmth, cold as he said, "Stop the car."

"But... We seem to be already too late..."

With a harsh clink, Sebastian's earpiece flew into the dashboard as his complexion changed abruptly.

He continued in a calm tone as he said, "You're really capable, Isabella."

Isabella shivered and froze, her fingernails biting painfully into her palm. "I didn't do anything wrong. All I wanted was to hold the culprit accountable."

"I told you that with proof, I'd make Lynda apologize."

"The cops now have evidence. Grace sent Lynda an unambiguous text that said 'We're on the same boat.' Do you not get what that means?"

Sebastian radiated a ferocious aura. "Why didn't you tell me? Are you planning against me?"

Isabella continued in an unbiased tone, "Lynda is just as guilty as Grace. As a matter of fact, she's much worse than Grace; after all, it was all her idea."

"Why should her mere apology be enough to let her go? Is that how the two of you handle people?"

Isabella kept waiting for Sebastian's answer. "The cat's out of the bag. You're going to Lynda, right? Stop here and let me out."

Despite her words, Sebastian floored the gas pedal, making the car speed forward.

Isabella chuckled to herself. He couldn't even find the time to pause and let her out; how intense could his love for Lynda be, to mess up a normally collected guy to this level?

In the garden bungalow.

Lynda was online as usual, but she was nervous since Edwin Turner's private life controversy was all over the internet today.

Even though she didn't want to acknowledge it, she knew she misread what had happened.

Sebastian was the mastermind behind this whole scheme, an extended lie that tricked the guiltiest people into confessing, ultimately resulting in the Turner family's collapse.

What was he thinking?

Surely he was furious about Isabella's ongoing relationship with Marcus? Shouldn't he be finding it harder to accept her, eventually leading to them breaking up?

How did things turn out the opposite way? Was he really on Isabella's side now?

Was there a chance he had feelings for her?

No... That's impossible.

Lynda couldn't stand thinking about it any longer. After all, Seb was the reason she was here. Her only goal had been to marry into his wealth ever since she met him. It was agonizing to consider anything going wrong.

Thus, she wouldn't risk upsetting him any longer. Since he was upset last time, she had to stay far away from Grace at all cost this time.

She grasped her phone firmly as she realized her mistake. She never should've answered Grace's calls. Regarding the hired thug event, she could never admit anything.

At that moment, Grace called.

Lynda quickly rejected it.

With her thin fingers lifting the cup for a few gentle sips, she sat on the couch while stirring her coffee.

Lynda's coffee was a present from Sebastian; it was the height of elegance, imported exclusively.

Delectable, wealthy, and exceptional, just like her life now. She lived in a composed and sophisticated manner, up to par with the most opulent homes if not better. Even though she wasn't called Mrs. Lawrence, she certainly held that title in every other way.

She had no reason to let go of this life once she'd achieved it.

Isabella...

Lynda mouthed the name out to herself, taking pleasure in it.

"Miss Lynda! Miss Lynda!"

A servant burst through the door, interrupting her thoughts with an urgent knock. Putting her cup down, she asked, "What's the fuss?"

"Miss Lynda, the police... The police are here!" the pale servant said.

Lynda's wrist trembled, sending ripples through her cup as she dripped coffee all over the spotless tablecloth.

"What?!"

The servant continuously nodded, saying, "Yes, it's true!"

Lynda's already pale complexion turned a deathly white.

As she looked downstairs, she noticed a police car parked outside.

It was genuine.

Was it because of Isabella that Seb had contacted the police?

Did he really think Isabella was the one for him?

No! How was that possible?

After all, how could he? After all those years of their complicated and passionate relationship, how could he suddenly love someone else when he never even said "I love you" to her?

Lynda heard the sound of brakes screeching sharply through the window.

She looked out in panic, seeing a familiar car pull up. Sebastian got out and walked to the mansion hurriedly, being as tense as ever.

"You need to come up with something, Miss Lynda. What do we do? You've been inside the house all this time," begged the servant. "How on earth could you have done anything? I'll give Mr. Lawrence a call immediately; he won't tolerate you being handled unfairly!"

With shaking hands, the servant gave Sebastian a call.

Lynda's lips twisted into a slight grin, and her heart, which had been stuck in her throat, eventually went back into its proper position.

Naturally, Seb couldn't stand to watch her suffer.

Isabella had to be the one who did it. Earlier, he looked to be tense and agitated. He cared for her, so he wouldn't let the police pursue her.

"Miss Lynda, police are with us. We've received a complaint, and the results of our investigation link you to a solicitation for a murder case." With an air of authority, the officer at the door said, "Please come with us."

A steady pair of footsteps emerged at the same time as the officer's remarks lingered in the air.

"How could this be?" Lynda stood up, her slender frame swaying unsteadily. Her eyes gradually watered as she looked extremely vulnerable, "I... I never..."
