Chapter 86 No Hint of Older Brother's Maturity
Sebastian looked at her and instinctively furrowed his brow, "How many times have I told you not to be so startled and be mindful of your image..."
"I was worried!" Anthony retorted. "Every time you see me, you nitpick at every little thing I do, brother."
"What's the matter?"
"Grandfather sent me here," Anthony said. "I didn't even have time for breakfast. Brother, did you have a conflict with the Watson family?"
Sebastian's face darkened slightly. "Did the Watson family bring the matter to grandfather's attention?"
"Yes, after grandpa heard about it, he didn't say much and sent me here to find you."
Isabella didn't expect that the Watson family would go as far as seeking help from Old Master Lawrence to rescue Bob from Sebastian's hands.
She looked at Sebastian.
Anthony grumbled, "I was still wondering why they called me over without any specific message..."
"Just do whatever needs to be done," Sebastian said. "No need to linger around me."
"Hey, brother, can you have a little bit of compassion? I've been running around for no reason! And you still say things like that. I am both angry and hungry..."
Anthony glared at him and turned to take Isabella's hand. "Isabella, what really happened? I heard from Watson family members that it was just a minor conflict, a misunderstanding, not something that required such a big fuss."
"They said that?"
"Yes!" Anthony nodded. "But I find it strange. How did a minor matter escalate to the extent of alarming grandfather? His expression was inscrutable, I can't figure it out."
Isabella simply forced a smile, "It's nothing, it has nothing to do with you. Thank you for running this errand."
"I don't mind, Isabella. But I do need to clarify the cause and effect of this matter. Otherwise, when grandpa asks me, I won't have any answers."
Sebastian snatched Isabella's hand back from Anthony and held it firmly, intertwining their fingers.
He calmly spoke, "This young master from the Watson family had impure intentions towards you, Isabella. He slapped her at the elevator, tore her clothes, and intended to drag her into a room."
Anthony's eyes widened slowly, "What! He... he must have a death wish! We can't let him go! The Watson family downplayed it so casually, no wonder grandpa sent me..."
Sebastian led Isabella out while holding her hand, "Grandfather sent you here to both uncover the truth and take advantage of the situation to show the Watson family some respect. The old Watson can't just stand by and do nothing.
"I'm just a runner... Hey, brother! I haven't had breakfast yet!"
"Figure it out yourself."
Isabella sat in the passenger seat, looking at him sideways. "Anthony at least..."
"Don't mind her," Sebastian interrupted, "She's clever enough to take care of herself."
"You treat your own sister like this."
"Like what?"
"Not very attentively," Isabella replied, "You don't have the demeanor of a protective older brother."
"You can have the demeanor of a sister-in-law and show more concern for her."
"I would if she hadn't been taken away by you."
Sebastian glanced at her. "Are you still going to visit Grandma at the hospital?"
"Yes, yes, of course," Isabella responded promptly, "I'm definitely going."
"Then keep it brief."
"Finding me noisy, huh?" She pouted, "So now that this matter has reached Grandfather's attention, what do you plan to do?"
"Do what needs to be done."
Curious, Isabella asked, "What if Grandfather also pleads for the Watson family?"
"Not possible."
"Why?"
"Grandfather is fiercely protective," Sebastian said, "If he wanted to resolve this, he wouldn't have sent Anthony."
Isabella wanted to ask more, but his hand slid down from the steering wheel and covered hers.
Old Mrs. Wallace's condition had been improving day by day. She could now get out of bed and her spirits were slowly recovering.
Seeing Sebastian and Isabella, the old lady smiled happily. "These grandchildren and their spouses have come to visit this old woman again."
"We had free time this weekend, so we came to keep you company."
"Isn't Sebastian busy? Your father has been running around like crazy lately, he only called me and didn't show up in person."
Isabella answered, "Isn't it impossible to be busy all the time? You can always make time."
Sebastian stood at the foot of the bed, holding his phone and typing quickly on the screen. It seemed like he was replying to messages and handling work matters, not paying attention to this side.
"Bella," old Mrs. Wallace lowered her voice, "I've heard quite a bit these past couple of days. Did you willingly marry Sebastian... tell me the truth?"
She felt a shock in her heart but smiled on her face. "Grandma, what rumors have you heard? Don't believe them, they're just baseless gossip from jealous people."
"Are they all false?"
"You know the Lawrence family's status in New York. Now that I'm married to Sebastian, our marriage is happy, and everyone in the Lawrence family treats me well. There will always be jealous people who spread some unpleasant rumors. Just ignore them."
"But I..."
"I've never heard you mention him before. As for you and Marcus... sigh." The old lady sighed and patted Isabella's hand. "Sometimes, fate works in mysterious ways. The person you're meant to marry changes their mind. Two individuals who had no connection end up together."
"Bella, I heard that... Marcus is getting married," Old Mrs. Wallace looked at her. "The bride is..."
Isabella chuckled, "It doesn't concern me anymore, Grandma. Just focus on taking care of yourself and getting discharged from the hospital soon."
"If I do get discharged, I'll return to the Wallace family," the old lady said.
"Grandma, you don't have to..."
"I won’t disturb you and Sebastian," Old Mrs. Wallace smiled. "You two enjoy your time together. Besides, I'm used to living in the Wallace home."
Isabella nodded, "Okay, I'll listen to you."
Sebastian finished handling some matters and looked up at this scene, a faint smile playing on his lips. Isabella, in front of her grandmother, was unusually gentle and well-behaved. It wasn't the forced compliance she displayed in front of him but a genuine tenderness that emanated from her very core.
"Sebastian," Old Mrs. Wallace looked at him. "Originally, our Bella had a dowry. But she sold it off because of my illness... which led to her marrying you. I feel guilty about it."
"Grandma, you're being too harsh," Sebastian replied. "You raised Bella and sent her to me. That's the best wedding gift I could ask for."
Isabella met his gaze and wondered if it was just her imagination, but she saw sincerity in his eyes.
Old Mrs. Wallace couldn't stop smiling. "Look at you, saying such pleasant words. But don't spoil Bella too much, or it will be you who suffers in the end."
