Chapter 34 The Family
In the afternoon, six o'clock.
Isabella took off her headphones, heaved a sigh of relief, and finally finished recording the dubbing for a new episode, and successfully sent it.
Emily replied, "Alright, when the time comes, I'll transfer the money to you."
If it were before, Isabella would have said, "No need, keep the money and just treat me to a meal."
But now... she needs money.
The more he thought about her, the more sad he became. How could she have been so stubborn and rejected Sebastian's black card when he gave it to her in the first place?
Just as he was thinking, Emily sent another message: "By the way, how did Marcus end up buying a house from you?"
"Long story short, I'll leave these following tasks to you to follow up on, considering them as your accomplishments."
"Oh wow, such a large order, I dare not compete for it."
"Isn't that just taking advantage of you, or would you like to take it then?"
"Sure, Mrs. Lawrence is wealthy beyond measure, she doesn't lack this little amount. I'll treat you to a meal later on."
Turning off the computer, Isabella walked towards the balcony to stretch her limbs and unwind, seeking a moment of relaxation and rejuvenation.
A car slowly drives through the front gate of Willowbrook Estate and comes to a stop by the garden.
Sebastian stepped out of the driver's side, swinging the car door shut with one hand and holding his phone in the other, engaged in a phone call.
The brilliance of the evening sun shines upon him, as if he has been coated in a layer of golden light.
Sebastian hung up the phone and looked up to find the gaze that had been following him all along, landing on the little woman standing on the balcony.
"Missed me, did you? Hmm?" he asked, "Isabella, aren’t you a portrait of wife longing?"
She suddenly regained her senses and instantly blushed.
Wow... She actually looks so infatuated and mesmerized by Sebastian.
"I, I, I, I... you, you, you, you... you're back." Isabella mumbled hesitantly, "You're back so early."
Getting off work at 5:30, taking into account the time spent stuck in traffic, it'll probably be past six o'clock when he would finally reach home...
Sebastian glanced at the time, raising his hand. "Because I must hurry back to see you."
Her face turned even redder.
What kind of sweet nothings are these...
"Freshen up," he said, "We have to be at the Lawrence family's by seven o'clock. The old man gave a stern order."
Isabella swiftly ran back to her room.
A tinge of resignation flashed across Sebastian's face, but quickly faded away.
The family home of the Lawrences.
"Today is the first time Sun's daughter-in-law has come to our house," Old Lawrence said. "Sebastian, when the time comes, don't always have a stern face and be kind to the young girl."
Sebastian's father, Jerome Lawrence, nodded. "Dad, I will be mindful of that. I don't have many requirements for who Sebastian marries. But, that person from the Wallace family... I looked into it..."
Old Lawrence raised his hand. "I looked into it too. The Wallace family has a clean background, they just had some misfortune in business and have fallen from their previous status. Besides, no matter who Sebastian marries... it's better than marrying someone from overseas."
"That's true," Jerome Lawrence sighed. "We can only think like that. As for the Wallace family... we can provide them with some more money and resources if needed."
Anthony walked in, with a clear and loud voice. "Grandpa, Dad, I'm back and I'm not late."
"Amber is here too," Old Lawrence turned around, looking at his only granddaughter, and smiled widely. "What do you want to eat? Tell me, I'll have the kitchen prepare it now."
"It must be what Second Sister-in-law likes to eat, and I'll eat whatever she likes."
"You little one..."
A slight squeaking sound suddenly echoed, getting closer.
A man in a wheelchair slowly approached, his skin was so pale it was translucent, the kind of pale that comes from never seeing sunlight. His features were handsome and deep, with exceptionally good bone structure... and...
His eyes and brows bore a resemblance to Sebastian.
"Grandpa, Dad," the wheelchair stopped, and Jarod Lawrence spoke. "Amber is also here. It's so lively in the house today to welcome my younger sister-in-law."
Anthony awkwardly greeted him with a smile. "Big brother, it's been a long time."
Old Lawrence approached with his cane and patted his shoulder. "Sebastian is already married, when will you... also start taking it seriously? Don't stay at home all day."
"What noble lady would be willing to marry a crippled man," Jarod Lawrence replied, "it's better not to burden others."
"It doesn't have to be a noble lady, a girl from an ordinary family is also fine. Our family doesn't have so many rules and restrictions, as long as you like her."
A hint of sadness and self-mockery appeared on Jarod Lawrence's expression. "I like her? The one I like... is no longer in this world."
Jerome Lawrence also advised, "Sir, there are many good girls in the world, you..."
"Just go with the flow." He didn't want to say more.
Old Lawrence and Jerome Lawrence exchanged glances, sighing.
While on their way to the Lawrence Family home:
"Who are the people in your family?" Isabella asked. "I searched online, but there is no information. I guess your family handles public relations very well."
Sebastian responded calmly, "Apart from Anthony whom you've met, there is another older brother. Grandfather and Father will be present."
"You have another older brother above you, but it seems like I've never seen him or heard any news about him."
"Well, he's more low-key," Sebastian paused, then added, "He's my half-brother."
"Ah? His mother..."
"She is my father's ex-wife, and she now lives abroad," Sebastian answered. "Anthony and I are full siblings, but our mother passed away a few years ago due to illness."
He spoke calmly, as if describing someone else's family situations.
Isabella had always thought that someone like Sebastian, with a well-known and successful family, wouldn't have such wounds in his heart. She said, "I don't have a mother either, but fortunately, I still have my grandmother, and my father is still alive. Look, you have older siblings and younger siblings, a grandfather and a father, you're much better off than me."
Sebastian's throat tightened, he turned his head and said stiffly, "What's so good about that?"
"At least you have a younger sister, and she's so beautiful and cute. A person like you should be worn down by Anthony's temperament from time to time."
"But it's not my turn to discipline her, grandfather protects her like his precious eyes."
Isabella laughed, "So you mean you can't do anything to her, hahaha!"
"Are you happy?"
"Now I can join her in teasing you."
"Don't spend too much time with her," Sebastian frowned, "She has no concept of boundaries."
