Chapter 78 Sebastian's Little Tail
The doctor pressed several places and asked each time, "Do you feel anything? Do you sense anything?"
Mr. Lawrence just shook his head.
After a thorough examination, the doctor sighed and shook his head repeatedly. "It's such a shame..."
Sebastian’s half brother, the person in question, didn't seem to care at all. "I'm already used to it."
"According to reason, it shouldn't be like this." The doctor looked at his legs. "With the timely rescue and subsequent treatment, there was a high chance of you being able to walk again! But why is there still no response?"
"Even if the chance is high, it's not one hundred percent."
"That's true. Do you want to try rehabilitation training? It might be tiring and painful, but as long as you persist..."
"Forget it." He shook his head. "I'm fine with the wheelchair."
"What are you saying, Young Master Lawrence?" The doctor said, "I see that you can already walk with crutches. It's a big improvement compared to just being in a wheelchair."
Mr. Lawrence smiled. "It's been five years. Is it considered a significant progress going from a wheelchair to crutches?"
How many five years does a person have in their lifetime?
"But are you giving up like this? You're so outstanding, from a prominent family background, but do you want to continue carrying the burden of being disabled? Do you want to be alone forever?"
He simply replied, "You know how my legs became lame."
The doctor fell silent.
After a while, he finally answered, "Young Master Lawrence, she's already gone."
"Yes, she's gone." His face was calm, but his eyes showed a hint of cracks. "I lost my legs trying to save her, but I still couldn't bring her back."
Mr. Lawrence only had other emotions when it came to her.
"If she were still alive, she would want you to recover and live a normal life."
"Am I abnormal now?"
The doctor sighed, "When I think of you five years ago and see you now, it's like night and day."
The Young Master took the cane and slowly got out of bed. "I think it's fine now."
"Five years ago, everyone knew Young Master Lawrence as a handsome and talented man, adored by countless ladies and with their hearts secretly devoted to him. But now, when people mention the Lawrence family, everyone only reveres the Second Young Master of the Lawrence family."
"Sebastian, ah," he laughed, "not bad."
"Are you really content? Even if you rarely appear in public and never attend various parties in New York, Miss Lawrence, who attracts curiosity and speculation, no longer receives attention. But that kind of tranquility is a blessing that cannot be sought."
The doctor shrugged, "You're really Zen-like now."
"I'm leaving." Mr. Lawrence stood up, using both crutches to leave. "Actually, it's unnecessary to continue with these examinations."
"But you still come every time."
"I just wanted to chat with you."
"Sir," Mr. Lawrence replied, "you are someone who knows all the processes, so there's no need to explain too much or face others' strange looks."
“Hey, Mr. Lawrence, I am your attending physician, not your chat companion!”
"Close enough."
After the medical examination, Isabella's life and work fell into place for the past half month.
During the day, she followed Sebastian like a little tail, always by his side. Whether it was attending meetings, negotiating business deals, dining with political and business figures, inspecting factories, construction sites, or shopping malls, she was always there.
Now, she would read the documents that Sebastian had signed and confirmed, asking him questions if she didn't understand, and he would patiently explain.
At night, Isabella would read the books Sebastian gave her. They were all books he had read, marked and annotated. Although they were obscure and difficult to comprehend, she was slowly learning.
And late at night, before going to sleep, Sebastian would maintain the frequency of once or twice a night, needing her. She would receive what she needed, while he worked towards what he desired.
This kind of life seemed fine, but Isabella felt that her heart was becoming increasingly lonely. It was like overgrown dead grass, easily withering under slight pressure.
"Mr. Lawrence," Kaine stood before the desk, reporting the afternoon's schedule, "Brittany, the director of the Design Department, is holding a department meeting and would like to invite you to spend ten minutes listening to it. I don't know if you've seen the marketing department's proposal, but today we need your signature and approval. In the evening, George, Nick, and Johnny have planned to have dinner together."
Sebastian nodded. Isabella listened by the side, thinking that she could see Brittany. Unexpectedly, Sebastian's voice sounded, "I will attend the meeting. You can take a look at the marketing department's proposal."
"Huh?"
"Review it and identify any issues. If you don't find any problems, I will sign it."
"But..."
Sebastian frowned, "What's the problem?"
"I want to go to the meeting with you."
"I just need to take a look at the design drafts, it will only take ten minutes to resolve." Sebastian said, "You don't have to come."
Isabella pursed her lips, "But I want to go..."
"You want to?"
"Yes, why should I stay alone in the office..."
Sebastian's mouth curled up, seemingly in a good mood, "You can't spare ten minutes."
"No, let me go." Isabella wanted to see Brittany, but it seemed that Sebastian misunderstood something...
Could it be that he thought she didn't want to be apart from him for even a second? Um... how should she explain this? It seemed like she couldn't explain, or it would make him angry.
So, she chose to remain silent.
"Okay." Sebastian nodded, agreeing, and added, "You'll also come to the dinner party in the evening."
Those dinner parties were actually quite boring. Powerful and wealthy men gathered together, eating, drinking, playing cards, with Isabella as an accompaniment. Fortunately, she was Sebastian's wife, so those people treated her politely.
Guys, treating her with courtesy and complimenting her, but not forcing her to drink.
Sebastian's purpose in bringing her here was to let her meet more people, and in the future... these were all connections she could develop.
So, even if Isabella didn’t like it, she would still attend.
Inside the conference room.
Sebastian pushed the door open and entered, with Isabella following behind. When Brittany saw her, her eyes lit up slightly.
The people at Lawrence Group had become accustomed to the sight of Mr. Lawrence and his wife always together.
“Hi,” Isabella quietly waved and winked at Brittany, looking cute and playful.
Considering the crowd, Brittany couldn't respond to her openly.
While Brittany was presenting the achievements of the design department for this month, Isabella propped her chin on her hand and looked at Brittany.
An independent and beautiful woman of the new century...
Isabella thought, if she were a man, she would definitely pursue Brittany, hold onto her tightly once she succeeded, be her wife for a lifetime, and never let go.
Sebastian casually turned his head and noticed something off with Isabella.
