Chapter 45 I Didn't See Anything

"Wake up, Isabella, wake up."

But she was still immersed in her nightmare, "Go away, help...help me...is there anyone, save me..."

"Sebastian, Sebastian...please save me, I don't want to die, I don't want to die..."

"I'm so scared...where am I, help..."

Isabella trembled even more intensely, layers of sweat forming on her forehead, dampening her hair.

"Isabella," Sebastian held her, embracing her in his arms, "Wake up, don't fall asleep."

He called her several times before finally awakening Isabella from her nightmare.

Isabella opened her eyes, her gaze still dazed, with bloodshot eyes that worried Sebastian.

"It's alright, it was just a dream, it wasn’t real," Sebastian comforted her as he held her, "Now that you're awake, everything is fine."

She opened her mouth, her voice hoarse, "A dream?"

"Yes, you just had a nightmare."

Isabella stared blankly at the ceiling, as if her soul had been lost.

Sebastian became anxious at her state, "You can't be like this, it was just a dream, it wasn’t real. We are at Willowbrook Estate, at home. I am sleeping right next to you, I will protect you, you won't be harmed."

He wasn't entirely sure what Isabella had experienced before he arrived, but it must have exceeded her capacity to bear after more than twenty years.

"A dream? No, it's not, Sebastian, it's not a dream..." Isabella said, "It was real, it was real, I dreamt about what happened to me today in that forest."

"Only that one time, it won't happen again."

"A spider as big as a palm was crawling towards me...and there were many unidentified insects, not to mention rats," she murmured as she recalled, "I saw a snake hanging from a tree, spitting venom..."

"I ran for my life, feeling like I would die there. Finally, I managed to escape the woods, only to find myself in a cemetery..."

"It was too terrifying. What if I got bitten by a poisonous snake? What if I fell into some unknown cave? What if I starved or froze to death..."

Sebastian interrupted her, "It won't happen, you won't die."

Two tears streamed down Isabella's cheeks.

He tightened his arms around her and gently kissed away the tears from her eyes, "I'm here with you, get a good night's sleep, don't think about those things anymore."

Seeing her like this pained him deeply.

"I can't forget..." Isabella replied, "Whenever I close my eyes now, those scenes come back to me."

"It's all in the past."

"Sebastian." She sniffled, "If I hadn't married you, I wouldn't have experienced all of this, right?"

He stiffened slightly.

"I can probably guess who's behind all this mischief..." Isabella looked at him, "It's Grace, isn't it?"

"However, I have no evidence. At that time, she was the only person who hated me in the hospital," Sebastian couldn't bring himself to meet her gaze in that moment.

He could only turn his head slightly, lower his body, and rest his chin on her shoulder. "I will find the murderer."

"Sebastian, do you think it could be Grace?" she asked.

"Whether it is or isn't, there will be a conclusion," he reassured, gently stroking her long hair. "Are you still not able to sleep?"

"I'm afraid of having nightmares..."

"I'll be with you," Sebastian whispered against her ear, "until you're no longer scared."

He laid her down in his arms, holding her like comforting a child, patting her back softly, again and again.

Sebastian had never done these things before, but strangely, he performed them effortlessly and naturally.
