Chapter 40 Very Sweet, Sweeter Than Imagined
She might be able to coax the truth out of Grace.
"He is my husband, sharing the same bed, being together day and night, of course I know," Isabella intentionally flicked her hair, "As for the past, it's all in the past, I don't care."
"You don't care? You simply don't know, do you? You're just pretending to be tough here, you stubborn fool."
"Oh my, Miss Ye, what do you know? Acting so smug in front of me, tell me what you know," Isabella mocked.
"Don't treat me like a fool, Isabella. I know you're trying to get information from me," Grace laughed. "Actually, it doesn't matter if I tell you, so you won't continue with your self-righteousness that makes people sick."
"I'm all ears."
Grace said, "I pursued Sebastian for so long, but he never paid attention to me. He quickly turned around and married you, why? Because you're easy to control, no background, no reliance. He can do whatever he wants with you. My status, he can't treat me so casually."
"And also, he doesn't accept me because he simply doesn't like me. The same goes for you, Isabella. He doesn't have even a trace of liking for you."
"The person he truly likes... hmm, on the day she returns, Isabella, the day you get kicked out. By then, you'll be nothing but a lowly weed on the side of the road. Despicable!"
She, it's her again.
This was the second time Isabella heard this word from another person's mouth.
Who is she exactly?
Thoughts raced through her mind, but on the surface, she still had to smile forcefully, and even... she couldn't lose her momentum.
"Oh, that's all you have to say," Isabella slanted her eyes, sounding completely nonchalant. "I thought you knew some explosive news, but it turns out it's just this. I'm really disappointed."
"Isabella, you... you knew?"
"How could I not know? I'm Sebastian's wife. Do you understand the significance of being a wife? I don't blame you for not knowing, since you've never been married." she said.
"It's impossible!" Grace shook her head. "This matter is rarely mentioned, and nobody dares to bring it up in front of Sebastian. How could he... how could he tell you!"
"Believe it or not, I don't care. I have other matters to attend to, so I won't waste any more time with you. Goodbye."
Isabella straightened her back and walked proudly past Grace, not losing an ounce of her confidence.
But deep in her heart, a hint of desolation crept in.
That "she" must surely exist, even if she didn't want to believe it, she couldn't continue deceiving herself anymore.
The hospital elevator was difficult to wait for, and when she finally managed to catch one, it was already packed with people.
Isabella glanced at the nearby staircase and decided to walk down.
There was a strong musty smell in the hallway, and the motion-activated lights flickered on and off, occasionally giving off an eerie flash. Isabella's footsteps echoed loudly, especially...
Loud enough that she ignored the intentionally slowed footsteps behind her. Isabella lowered her head and focused on the steps of the stairs in front of her.
Suddenly, she noticed a dark shadow behind her that quickly covered her. Her eyes widened in shock, but before she could turn around to look, her vision was completely blocked by a piece of black cloth.
She could see nothing, only able to emit a sound resembling a sob. The person behind her had complete control over her, and immediately after, she felt a heavy blow on her forehead.
Isabella lost all consciousness in an instant and closed her eyes, not knowing anything anymore.
In that moment, she regretted not waiting a little longer for the elevator. What harm would it have done?
Why did she have to take the staircase that practically no one used!
It was too late, there was no time.
Lawrence Group, President's office.
The director of the public relations department asked, "Mr. Lawrence, are you planning to announce the news of your marriage...right?"
"Yes."
"Then, would it be possible for you to provide a photo of you and your wife?"
Sebastian was stumped by that one sentence.
He and Isabella...didn't have a photo together, only the one on their marriage certificate. He couldn't possibly use that.
This realization frustrated him, and he took out a cigarette but didn't light it. He took it out and threw it away. "Why would you need a photo?"
The director, intimidated by his unpredictable manner, was startled. "Mr. Lawrence, when you announce your marriage, you need to include a photo of you and your wife. Otherwise, people won't know who Mrs. Lawrence is."
"I only want to announce the marriage, I don't want her to be exposed."
The director remained silent.
Mr. Lawrence, I don't know how to respond to what you just said.
"Forget it." Sebastian frowned. "There is a new product launch event in the marketing department this afternoon. I will attend and announce the marriage during that event."
"Alright, Mr. Lawrence." The director nodded immediately. "I will make the arrangements."
Sebastian waved his hand.
He picked up the cigarette he had thrown onto the coffee table and reached for his lighter when his phone rang.
While lighting his cigarette, he answered, "What's the matter?"
"Mr. Lawrence," the driver's panicked voice came through, "Madam...she...she...is missing!"
White smoke rose abruptly with the urgency in the man's voice. "What are you saying?"
"Madam is missing." The driver sounded anxious and trembling. "After she entered the hospital, she never came out. I waited and waited but something felt off, so I called Madam's phone. No one answered the first time, and the second time, it was turned off."
"I'm going to the hospital to look for her. The nurses and the attending physician all said that Madam left an hour ago..."
How could a person just disappear out of nowhere! In that moment, Sebastian felt as if his heart had emptied, followed by a sharp descent. He stood up, grabbed his car keys, and rushed outside.
Kaine rarely saw Mr. Lawrence so frantic, almost like a gust of wind running past him.
He quickly caught up, "Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Lawrence, what happened?"
Sebastian pressed the elevator button forcefully, his face so grim that it seemed like water could drip from it. "Go immediately and check the hospital surveillance. Notify both the lawful and unlawful forces, and tell them that whoever has touched my woman, Sebastian..."
"Hand it over now!" Kaine was also shocked, his wife was in danger?
"Yes, Mr. Lawrence!"
