Chapter 354 Joshua, damn it, he deserved this.
"It's fine," Brittany's pale lips curled into a faint smile. "I'm over him."
Isabella, sitting on the sofa across from Brittany, clearly didn't buy it. "Really? If you are, why did you end up in the hospital as soon as something happened to Joshua?"
Brittany's hand, which was fiddling with a rose, suddenly froze like a wound-up machine, completely still.
"You didn't know?" Isabella asked, suspicious.
The room was so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
"No," Brittany finally snapped out of it and said calmly, "I didn't know. I was hospitalized because I was upset."
Brittany plucked a petal from the rose, playing with it in her hand, her head lowered as she asked softly, "What happened to Joshua?"
Isabella saw a hint of tension in Brittany's frail figure. Brittany seemed indifferent, but Isabella knew she was waiting for her answer.
"A car accident, last night. We don't know his condition yet."
A petal slowly fell from Brittany's hand, which stayed in the same position, pinching the petal.
"Brittany, are you okay?" Isabella felt a pang of heartache, unsure if telling Brittany was the right choice.
Brittany's mind went blank for a moment, a pang of pain flickering through her heart. But she quickly suppressed it.
She returned to normal, turning to Isabella with a light smile. "He deserved it. I should be happy, right?"
Hearing Brittany's words, Isabella knew that although Brittany wasn't hospitalized because of Joshua's accident, it was still related to him.
She remained silent, just listening.
"Isabella, you know?" Brittany's lips curled slightly, a flash of hatred in her eyes. She bit her lip and took a while to meet Isabella's gaze. "Just yesterday, I was waiting for the day I could bring a bouquet to his grave."
"Do you think my wish will come true so soon?"
Isabella clearly saw the resentment in Brittany's eyes, but she also saw a thin layer of mist slowly forming in her eyes.
A very faint mist, which disappeared almost imperceptibly as Brittany blinked.
Isabella didn't understand. Brittany was so kind, so in love with Joshua. Why did Joshua cheat on her?
'It's truly outrageous,' Isabella thought to herself.
"It's over," Isabella comforted, "Joshua has nothing to do with you anymore. Whether he lives or dies, he's not worth your emotions. You should start a new life, forget the bad memories and the bad people."
It took Brittany a while to steady her breathing. She pressed her lips together, her clear eyes becoming bright. "Yeah, you're right. I should completely forget the past. His life or death has nothing to do with me."
Isabella seemed to see the confident, independent Brittany again, with a hint of pride.
She felt happy for Brittany.
But she also thought, Joshua didn't deserve to lose his life.
Isabella hoped Joshua could be saved, live on, and become a stranger to Brittany.
The door of the hospital room was knocked, and a gentle male voice came in, "Isabella, are you awake?"
Isabella recognized it as Larry's voice. "It's Larry. He's been released?"
Brittany nodded. "Yeah, my parents know about Joshua's threats. And with Sebastian by your side, nothing can threaten me anymore."
"Everything's a new beginning." Brittany's smile was warm, her eyes shining with a fearless light.
She was no longer the fragile doll Isabella saw yesterday.
"Since it's a new beginning, look at the other guys around you," Isabella teased, her eyes curving into a smile. "What do you think about Larry"
Brittany was slightly stunned. "We're just friends."
"Are you sure about that?"
She lowered her head, laughing helplessly. "You know, I was the one who told you about your feelings for Sebastian back then."
"No way, am I that clueless?" Mentioning Sebastian, Isabella's ears turned slightly red.
"Yes, you are." Brittany went to open the door for Larry, talking to Isabella as she walked. "Not long ago, didn't you think it was a lie that Sebastian liked you? Now that you're back together, doesn't it show you were wrong?"
Isabella realized Brittany had indeed recovered; she could even tease people now.
Sebastian raised his hands in surrender, silently mouthing, "Go open the door."
Brittany's mood had indeed improved a lot. Although there was still a bit of emptiness in her chest, a nagging unease and worry tightly wrapped around her, she could suppress all these inappropriate emotions.
She would never have any thoughts about Joshua again, not even a bit.
Brittany took a deep breath, opened the door, and greeted, "Larry."
Behind Larry was a large patch of warm sunlight. He was dressed in a doctor's coat, standing tall and clean, with a gentle smile like the wind. He said warmly, "Looks like you're much better."
In the VIP room on the sixth floor, Joshua lay weakly on the bed, his face pale and lips colorless.
The room was dark, the curtains half-drawn, and Joshua was shrouded in darkness.
The room was very quiet, with only the sound of the IV drip.
Besides that, even Joshua's breathing was barely audible.
Outside the room, Sebastian, with a calm face, was handling the matters related to the cancellation of the engagement party due to Joshua's accident.
After finishing, he returned to Joshua's room. As he opened the door, he heard a hoarse voice coming from Joshua's mouth.
"Brittany, Brittany."
Joshua called out softly, each call seemingly filled with deep emotion.
Sebastian still didn't understand. If he liked her, if he loved her so much, why push Brittany away?
Shouldn't he try to keep Brittany by his side, cherish her, and never let her forget him, making her hold onto their memories forever even after he died?
If Sebastian were in Joshua's place, and Isabella were Brittany, he would definitely keep her by his side.
People handle problems differently, and Sebastian only planned to intervene in Joshua's physical condition, not his emotional issues.
Sebastian poured a glass of water, placed it on the bedside table, sat on the sofa, and sent a message to Isabella, reminding her to go home and rest early after seeing Brittany and to eat on time.
The phone dinged, and Isabella's reply came quickly: [Brittany is being discharged soon. I'll take her home and then head back.]
