Chapter 248 There's Something on Your Neck

Having shared a bed before, this kind of thrill was a first for Isabella. "Wow," Isabella closed her eyes and turned her face away.

"You've already seen it all; what's the point of closing your eyes?" Sebastian glanced over the subtle powder behind Isabella's ear, and his mood suddenly improved slightly.

Isabella clutched the towel in her hand, quietly exhaled, and said, "Mr. Lawrence, if you feel... if you feel upset about being seen for no reason, then I can just...”

A grin found its way onto Sebastian's lips, his gaze softening. "Just what?"

"I won't take my salary for this month! You can keep it all; it's all yours," Isabella blurted out in one breath, without even pausing to catch it.

Sebastian was momentarily stunned, quite disappointed by Isabella's declaration.

After a few seconds, he narrowed his eyes, "Isabella, do you think I'm someone who can be looked at just because there’s money involved? What's next, planning to pay to share a bed? You sure have some nerve."

Isabella wanted to say he was overthinking it, but she no longer wanted to continue this topic with Sebastian. She said, "Mr. Lawrence, your little rascal is telling me, his mother, that he's tired and wants to go to sleep."

Sebastian choked on his reply, went back to the bedroom, and after finishing the rest of the day's work, it dawned on him that Isabella had just subtly called him a dog.
He snorted, a lazy smile curling up at the corners of his mouth.

From in front of the window pane, Sebastian could clearly see the edge of his smiling lips and his large hands slowly coming together. He pinched the bridge of his nose and stepped out of the bedroom out of disbelief.

In the living room, under a soft orange lamp, Isabella lay on the couch, breathing gently in her sleep. She never slept soundly. She had a habit of kicking off the covers and turning over restlessly. One of her slim, clean legs extended off the couch, and as she turned again, her body seemed poised to fall off.

"Careful!" Sebastian's voice was soft, afraid of waking the restless sleeper. But the sound he made was futile.

He strode over to her, lay down on the carpet by the sofa, opening his arms to catch Isabella as she fell, right onto his chest, into his embrace.

Such a foolish action for him to do and it was beyond his comprehension! Yet, there was no time for him to contemplate it. Sebastian wrapped his arms around Isabella's waist. In an instant, his emptiness in his heart felt as if it had been filled.

A look of confusion flashed across Sebastian's handsome face at this emotion–both at the feeling and at his current behavior.

"Umm..." Isabella moaned and curled up in Sebastian's arms, settling into the most comfortable position to continue sleeping.

‘Sebastian Rested His Chin on Isabella's Head’

Sebastian's chin rested on Isabella's head, her warm breath spraying onto his Adam's apple. His throat felt dry, swallowing movements caused his throat to bob up and down.

"Don't move, it tickles," Isabella murmured softly, speaking in a sleep-laden voice that sounded almost coquettish. Then, she bit down on Sebastian's neck.

Sebastian's breath grew heavy, desire flashing in his eyes. He closed his eyes, struggling to suppress the feelings but failing to quell them.

‘The Next Day’

Early the following morning, Isabella woke from a deep sleep, sat up, and stretched comfortably. She took a quick look around her surroundings and froze.

‘Where was she? Why was she in bed? Was this Sebastian's bedroom?’ Isabella lifted the blanket to examine herself. Her clothes were still neatly on her.

Now fully awake, she was about to get out of bed when Sebastian opened the bedroom door and spoke softly, "Get ready, we have a meeting with our business partners today."

Isabella's eyes immediately caught the ring of bite marks on Sebastian's neck. Fireworks were going off in her head, whizzing incessantly. She bit her lower lip and coughed lightly, "Mr. Lawrence, your neck..."

She cautiously gestured to her neck, indicating where the marks were on his.

"You don't know?" Sebastian asked seriously.

Isabella's heart leapt as she shook her head innocently and vigorously.

"Isabella, you've got some nerve. Climbing onto my bed in the middle of the night, flirting with me, kissing me, biting me, and you dared to sleep with me?" Sebastian raised his voice.

Isabella's eyes widened in shock. What?!

Sebastian nodded, "You indulge yourself and then deny responsibility. I must say, you surprise me."

"Lawrence… Lawrence… Lawrence… Lawrence… Lawrence..." Isabella was on the brink of losing her mind. What had happened last night? Was it just a series of bad luck, everything seemed so strange?

"Hurry up," Sebastian said as he tied his tie, "You have twenty minutes to eat breakfast and get ready."

"Yes, yes, yes!" Isabella followed him, "Do you... want to put on a band-aid?"

Sebastian gave her a sharp look, "Isabella, have you lost your mind, or have I?"

Isabella's cheeks reddened even more as she responded softly, sounding slightly subdued, "We have a meeting with our partners today, right? It might be strange, but it's better than having people think you're promiscuous." Isabella's voice trailed off to a whisper.

‘Sebastian's Irritation Evaporates’

Sebastian decided not to tease her any further. The annoyances of yesterday vanished into thin air. "Band-Aid," he said.

Isabella had brought some adhesive bandages and she dug them out to hand to Sebastian. "Mr. Lawrence, I might have been sleepwalking last night, please forgive me. If you are really angry, you can keep next month's wages."

She regretted her clumsy actions deeply; it felt like two months of effort had gone up in smoke.

Sebastian paused in dismay, "Be quiet."

"Yes." Eager to avoid any misunderstanding that she was up to no good and playing hard to get, Isabella acted even more respectful and well-behaved with every word, almost as if she was ready to revere Sebastian like an ancestor.

‘Business Breakfast and Golf’

After a hearty breakfast and meticulously applying makeup, she accompanied Sebastian to meet a business partner.

The partner was Samuel Carter, the richest man in San Francisco, who was close in age to Sebastian and quite humorous. Their negotiations, though a clash of masters, often ended amicably, leading to many successful partnerships.

That afternoon, they arranged a game of golf. Samuel Carter brought a female companion, necessitating Isabella to be at Sebastian's beck and call.

Sebastian and Samuel Carter matched each other stroke for stroke, sharing wins and losses. Following the unwritten rules of good business conduct, whoever was winning too much would intentionally lose a round.

Isabella felt exhausted just watching.

"I’m tired, how about you Mr. Lawrence, aren’t you tired as well? How about letting the young ladies have some fun?" Samuel Carter suggested. "If my person loses, I'll give you a five percent stake."

Sebastian glanced at Isabella, eyes briefly dropping to her midsection, and looked at Samuel Carter with a half-smile. "That advantage isn't worth my person intervention."

He always had an air of superiority, seemingly disdainful of others, but he was never flustered—a sign of his confidence.

Isabella understood his concern for the child and his intention to make Samuel Carter back off to avoid any harm coming to her. However, Isabella didn't act as he expected. She had confidence in her golf skills, having learned the game before.

She smiled in agreement. "Mr. Carter, I rarely take action." Sebastian frowned. Isabella gave him a reassuring look.

"Oh-ho, this is interesting," Samuel Carter said, unable to gracefully back out, so he braced himself for the challenge.

However, his companion for the day was also skilled; he wouldn't have suggested this competition otherwise.
