Chapter 283 Let Larry Go
Isabella could only keep nodding in agreement, she couldn't do anything else.
This was Brittany's personal business. If she intervened, not only would she not be able to help Brittany, but she would also embarrass her.
Brittany didn't waste even a second, she pushed the door open, rushed over, and shouted, "Stop!"
However, right as Brittany shouted these words, Larry Hall's fist struck Joshua's face.
A hint of blood stained the corner of Joshua's mouth, and he raised his hand to wipe it away, giving a light smile. He smirked in a playful and carefree manner.
Brittany knew Joshua too well, and this was a sign that he was getting angry.
She stood in front of Larry Hall, spreading her arms in a protective stance, trembling as she said, "Joshua, calm down."
Joshua smiled even more, he should have guessed that his old classmate was Larry Hall, his old rival.
He thought that the old guy didn't dare to confess and had long given up, but who knew that he was still infatuated?
But the timing was wrong.
Joshua's current pursuit was only for the short time he had left in his life, so what was Larry Hall trying to take Brittany away from him?
Why was this guy so darn annoying?
"Brittany," Joshua asked with a hurt expression, "aren't you supposed to protect me?"
As he spoke, he tilted his slightly swollen face and showed it to Brittany, "Look, it's swollen."
It had been a while since Brittany had heard Joshua's persistent and whiny tone, and her heart couldn't help but be touched.
But now, Joshua was no longer the same Joshua that he used to be.
What was there for her as his sister-in-law to feel sorry for?
"Mr. Sinclair, on behalf of my classmate, I apologize to you. If there's anything, do you really need me to deal with it?" Brittany obediently asked, "You mentioned a business trip, are you leaving now?"
Joshua still had a smile on his face, but his heart was in so much pain.
He stared straight at Brittany, his eyes unable to hide the pain.
"But it's nothing," Joshua smirked, and said, "I got beaten up like this, even if there's something, it has to be nothing, because... this face is too embarrassing."
Joshua lazily leaned against the car with arms crossed. "Brittany, are you talking about me? Now that you're helping your classmate, how will you compensate me?" he asked.
Larry Hall's gentle demeanor had long disappeared.
Joshua gritted his teeth, gently pushed Brittany aside, and lunged at Joshua again, grabbing his collar. "Compensate you? Are you still dreaming?" he asked, furiously.
"Larry Hall, enough!" Brittany scolded as she pried apart Larry Hall's fingers one by one. "Don't continue."
Joshua didn't dodge or hide, he smirked and shook his head mockingly. "Larry Hall, because I played with a woman, dumped a woman, are you that concerned? How about this, are you secretly in love with Brittany? Or are you secretly in love with me?" he taunted.
Brittany's movements froze for a moment, Joshua's words turned into countless needles and pierced her heart.
Taking advantage of the situation, Larry Hall pulled his hand free and pushed Brittany away. He was so provoked by Joshua that his eyes turned red, and yelled, "You scumbag!"
He punched Joshua in the stomach, full of force, and then punched again.
Brittany couldn't stop him, "Senior brother!"
"What are you doing? What is everyone doing!" a voice questioned. At this moment, the police arrived and fiercely hit Larry Hall's stomach with a baton.
Larry Hall stepped back repeatedly, and several police officers immediately subdued him, pinning his arms.
Though his hands couldn't move, his mouth didn't stop, as Larry Hall cursed, "Joshua, you're not human!"
Joshua had no energy left in his body, otherwise, he wouldn't have been defenselessly punched, and he would have fought back for sure.
He suppressed the pain in his body, lazily leaning against the car, smirking, and extending his long arm to pull Brittany into his embrace.
While playing with Brittany's hair, he stared directly at Larry Hall, and said, "Human or ghost, what does it matter to you? Even if I'm not human, you would sleep with a female ghost, right?"
Brittany's body trembled slightly from the stress and embarrassment.
With so many people watching her, familiar and unfamiliar... she wished she could hide. Joshua's goal, perhaps, was to completely ruin her. But that's impossible, he can forget about it.
"Joshua, you will pay for this!" Larry Hall vowed. He was a gentle person, even if he shouted at the top of his lungs, his voice lacked any intimidating quality.
Joshua shrugged indifferently, and said, "Retribution, whatever. But Larry Hall, think about yourself."
He looked at the police officer, and said, "Officer, please keep this thug in custody properly. I'm in pain, it hurts so much."
Joshua sighed and said to Larry Hall, "Dr. Jian, if you have something to say, please remember to talk to my lawyer."
Brittany's consciousness gradually returned, and she realized that Joshua hadn't fought back earlier for some reason. Perhaps it was to make sure Larry Hall would go to jail.
Joshua... he's so ruthless.
Of course, he is. He never has a moment of disadvantage. If he suffers, he will make sure the other person suffers ten or a hundred times more.
She narrowed her eyes and shook off Joshua's arm, and pleaded, "Joshua, tell me, how can we spare my classmate?"
Joshua's eyelids weighed down, and he narrowed his eyes, patted Brittany's cheek, and said, "Brittany, too familiar, I don't like it."
"Brittany, don't plead with him. I'll go," Larry Hall sneered, "Take me away."
"Joshua," Brittany didn't want to owe anyone favors. She swallowed her hatred, slowed her voice, dropped her aloofness and arrogance, and begged him, "What do you want me to do to let Larry Hall go?"
As Larry Hall was being taken away by the police, he turned around three times and said loudly, "Brittany! Don't plead with him!"
Joshua pinched Brittany's chin, not allowing her to look at anyone else. He smiled gently, saying, "It's been a long time since I've heard you call me like that."
"After you called me, the pain seemed to lessen, it's amazing," he said with a smile, his gaze soft and sincere. "Call me again, let me hear it."
Brittany didn't hesitate for a moment. "Joshua, let Larry Hall go. I don't want to owe anyone a favor," she insisted.
Every part of Joshua's body was in pain. All the physical pain couldn't compare to the pain in his heart.
He once had a girl, beautiful and gentle, the girl he destroyed with his own hands, the girl he loved.
"Brittany, anyone who dares to hurt me like that ends up dead." Joshua held Brittany tightly, deeply inhaling her scent, and said, "So, I need a lot of compensation to let him go."
"Do you have your ID?" Brittany asked in a hoarse voice.
Joshua smiled. "Do you want to rent a room?" he asked.
"Haven't you always wanted me to take the initiative?" she replied.
"But today, I don't want to." Joshua's voice was filled with the taste of blood. "It hurts my heart that the person I love sacrificed herself for another man, Brittany."
"What do you want, Joshua?" Brittany was on the verge of going crazy, exhausted, and frustrated. Through gritted teeth, she asked, "I have no relationship with Larry Hall, just ordinary friends. What do you want?"
Joshua felt his stomach wrench in pain. It was too much.
Worried that something might go wrong, he pushed Brittany away. "I'll just keep him locked up. Whoever dares to challenge me can reflect inside. Isabella is waiting for you, so go back," he warned.
After saying that, Joshua barely stood up straight and opened the car door.
