Chapter 416 Three Lives Can't Match a Vicious Woman?
This excuse shut Isabella right up.
No way she could stop Larry from heading back to the hospital for surgery, right?
Even if the whole surgery thing was a total lie.
"Isabella," Larry's voice was all soft, "you and Brittany can grab dinner together. Brittany knows this place inside out. After dinner, she can take you home."
Larry's eyes drifted to Isabella's belly. One glance and he knew, "You're having twins, huh? Twins ain't easy; you gotta be careful. One little slip-up could be a disaster."
Isabella suddenly remembered that Larry was a big-shot obstetrician.
"Plus, your fetal position's all over the place. A tiny bump could mean a miscarriage," Larry squinted, getting all serious. "And your emotions are a mess. During pregnancy, emotions are like a double-edged sword."
Isabella's face went pale with fear.
A chill ran through her chest, making her spine feel icy.
Brittany stood next to Isabella, grabbing her wrist, silently backing her up.
Larry looked at the two scared, expressionless girls in front of him, feeling a wave of pity.
He was always a softie.
But, being a doctor, he had to lay out all the scary stuff calmly and seriously.
"Isabella," Larry frowned. "you gotta be more careful. If you keep letting your emotions run wild, it's either gonna be a miscarriage or a premature birth. But you're only about four months along, so there's really only one option."
Larry didn't spell it out, but Isabella got it—miscarriage.
Isabella's hands went cold, and her heart started racing.
"Don't freak out," Larry said. "If something's up, don't bottle it in. Talk to Brittany. For medical stuff, hit me up. I'll have Brittany give you my Facebook later. Every Saturday morning, I run a clinic. I'll set aside half an hour just for you to make sure everything goes smoothly."
At this point, Isabella had nothing to hide. She straight-up thanked him, "Thanks a ton, Larry."
In Maple Valley, heck, even nationwide, Larry was the top dog in obstetrics.
Since he mentioned a smooth delivery, it was a done deal.
Isabella gently stroked her belly, her tense heart slowly easing up.
She had no clue how to thank Larry enough.
"It's about time," Larry checked his watch and said, "You two should go eat. No dieting. I'll head to the hospital first."
Isabella thanked Larry again.
Brittany gave Larry an embarrassed smile.
Larry's smile was all warm, his eyes showing his affection. "It's cool, I'm off."
He was humble, not a hint of aggression. Handled everything like a pro.
But, if a guy's chasing a girl like this, it might come off too gentle and slow, not really getting anywhere.
Isabella noticed this and thought maybe she could give Larry a hand sometimes.
As soon as Larry left, Isabella turned to Brittany, "You two..."
"Quit worrying about us. Do you even know how rough you look?" Brittany cut her off, giving her a look, then focused on the road, leading Isabella to a nearby restaurant.
Isabella had no choice but to follow Brittany.
She gave a weak, self-mocking smile, "Is it that obvious?"
The restaurant was small but had everything. Each seat was separated, perfect for two people to chat and spill secrets.
Brittany ordered a bunch of dishes good for pregnant women, handed the menu to Isabella, and motioned for her to order more.
Isabella had zero appetite and shook her head. Brittany called the waiter, handed over the menu, and then folded her hands on the table, emphasizing each word, "Very obvious."
"Spill it," Brittany asked softly, "What went down between you and Sebastian? He's the only one who could mess you up this bad."
Isabella wanted to laugh, to give Brittany props for nailing it, but she couldn't even muster a faint smile.
After handing the utensils to Brittany, she looked at her and said, "Lynda almost got me and my babies killed."
Brittany froze, staring at Isabella in shock.
"But Sebastian had the evidence and let her go. He kept it from me the whole time, and I only found out by accident."
Her tone was flat, like she was telling someone else's story. "That's it."
The words hit Brittany hard, making her shiver. She placed her palm on Isabella's hand.
Right then, Brittany saw her past self in Isabella—hurt, desperate.
In Brittany's mind, Isabella was a vibrant rose, but now, after a storm, the petals were battered and fallen into the dust, losing their spark.
"Got any plans?" Brittany tried to keep her voice low. "I'll do whatever I can to help you."
Isabella was lost. A thick fog clouded her eyes, blocking her way forward.
"I can never forgive him for what he did," Isabella said, elbows on the table, hands covering her face. "But he says he loves me. Loving me and letting Lynda go aren't conflicting."
"Bullshit." Brittany exhaled heavily, cursing for the first time.
Brittany was always calm, but what Isabella told her shattered her principles. She couldn't stay calm, especially seeing Isabella tormented like this.
She grabbed Isabella's wrist, pulling her hands away from her face, and said coldly, "Isabella, are you still thinking about him? Are three lives not worth more than one vicious woman?"
"Don't think about whether he loves you or not. Just consider, you and your child aren't more valuable than Lynda's life?"
Brittany exhaled deeply. "It's my fault. From the first time we met, I should have told you to stay away from love to avoid falling into a trap."
"Nowadays, birds of a feather flock together. A douchebag's friend can't be a good guy."
Isabella's eyes were dazed, a bitter smile on her face. "Brittany, I want a divorce, but Sebastian has too many things I care about. I can't leave. All the past sweetness seems to have turned into pain. It really hurts."
