Chapter 29 How Could I Bear to Deceive You

Sebastian put away his phone and stood silently until he heard footsteps behind him, then he slightly turned his head.
Isabella didn't ask him anything, only saying, "Let's go."
"Yeah," he nodded, "let's go and say goodbye to Grandma."
"She's asleep, there's a check-up at noon, no need to disturb her."
Only then did Sebastian turn around and glance at her. "Alright."
Isabella asked, "What's wrong? You seem troubled."
"Nothing."
Sebastian took a step forward, and Isabella stood still for a moment, looking down at her own hand. Just now... she wanted to hold his hand.
But Sebastian didn't seem to notice or ignored it. However, he used to take her hand willingly before.
Isabella slowly let her hand drop and looked at his tall figure, then followed behind him.
Sitting in the car, she asked, "Are you going to the company?"
"Yeah."
"Thank you for what you did for the Wallace Group."
"It's just a transaction." Sebastian's hand rested on the steering wheel, his tone indifferent. "As long as you are willingly have a child, like I said, I'll give you anything you want."
Isabella buckled her seatbelt and lowered her head. "I really don't know if I've gained or lost."
"I can make it worth your while."
"What do you mean?" Isabella asked, puzzled. "Are you going to give me a large sum of money for a divorce settlement?"
"It's better to teach someone how to fish than to give them fish."
She didn't quite understand. Sebastian turned his head and looked at her. "What major did you study in university?"
"I studied broadcasting."
"It has nothing to do with finance... you don't have a foundation," Sebastian furrowed his brows.
”I didn't think about managing the family's company at that time, besides... if I had studied finance, my stepmother's eyes would probably pop out." Isabella replied, "So, I simply chose a major I liked."
She had just graduated and hadn't had the chance to find a job yet when the Wallace family went bankrupt.
Nowadays... she just plays around with voice acting with Emily, taking on small jobs to earn some extra money.
Sebastian raised an eyebrow. "However, I couldn't tell that you studied broadcasting. Your words lack proper intonation."
"What's the use of you being able to tell?"
"Perhaps it would give a different feeling... when you're calling out someone's name in bed?"
Isabella almost choked on her saliva.
One second, Sebastian could speak such vulgar words, the next second, he could immediately return to the topic.
"Your father's management ability is lacking. If things continue like this, the company will eventually go bankrupt under his control."
"What problems have you noticed?"
"Many. Your father has outdated thinking, acts conservatively, and without any innovation, he'll be eliminated sooner or later."
When it came to his own area of expertise, Sebastian displayed a sense of authority, even more so than usual.
Isabella gazed at him and asked, "So...what should I do then?"
"Let me cultivate you," he said. "Are you interested?"
"Me?"
"Come to Lawrence Group and learn by my side," Sebastian met her gaze. "Though it may be challenging to graduate, managing your family's company won't be an issue."
This man had such a grandiose and self-assured demeanor, with a hint of arrogance.
But indeed, he did possess the necessary credentials.
Sebastian was a rising star in the business world, and not many had the chance to learn from him. Yet, he had extended this opportunity to her.
Isabella was currently unemployed. If she relied solely on voice acting... She used to be a Wallace family heiress, with no worries about food or clothing, able to choose what she liked freely.
But now, she didn't have the privilege of such recklessness. She wasn't Amber.
"Are you serious, Sebastian?"
"Work matters are never a joking matter."
Isabella nodded, "Alright, I promise you."
With her affirmative response, Sebastian started the car and drove towards the Lawrence Group's direction.
Isabella couldn't understand what he was truly thinking. Why all of a sudden, out of nowhere, did he mention something about giving fish or teaching her to fish in regards to managing the company?
Thinking about her future situation, she felt that divorcing Sebastian, giving up custody of their child, and taking over the Wallace family company to become a career woman...
Seemed like a decent choice as well.
Sebastian is truly putting in his utmost effort to compensate for her, making such a good marriage deal. Where else could she find such a thing?
Lawrence Group.
Isabella stood by Sebastian's side, walking shoulder to shoulder. They encountered no obstacles along the way and attracted countless surprised glances from people.
"Is this Mrs. Lawrence? Yesterday, Mr. Johnson revealed Mr. Lawrence's marriage news, and today Mrs. Lawrence herself appears?"
“Maybe it was intentional slip of the tongue by Mr. Johnson."
"I wonder if Miss Ye from the Ye family is fuming with anger... It seems that Mrs. Lawrence isn't particularly beautiful either."
"Her temperament is quite good, and her features are also well-proportioned. But she must have something extraordinary to make Mr. Lawrence marry her."
"I heard she's a bankrupt heiress... She's really lucky; wealth and prosperity always accompany her." As they passed the front desk and were about to head towards the elevator, Isabella heard a familiar sweet female voice:
"Sister-in-law!"
Amber wearing sunglasses with vibrant lip color approached her quickly with a low-key seductive gaze like a female celebrity would have on display.
Not far behind her were several of her staff members standing there.
Isabella was about to respond when Sebastian's dissatisfied voice sounded first:
"What are you doing here at the company?"
"I'm working."
"Working?"
"Yeah," Amber nodded, "to discuss endorsements."
Sebastian frowned: "Endorsements?"
"Oh come on, I'm not here to disturb you and sister-in-law," Amber winked her eye playfully,
"Besides, I wasn't looking for you in the first place; it was only after seeing sister-in-law that I came over."
As soon as she said that, Isabella immediately remembered the embarrassing incident where Amber caught her kissing Sebastian at the Lawrence family.
Amber held onto her arm while taking out two pieces of chocolate from her bag with an expression of heartfelt pain:
"I can't eat them because I'm dieting. Sister-in-law, here you go, they're really delicious."
Then she took out several snacks from her bag. Oat bars, milk slices, fruit juice candies... She handed them all to Isabella in one go.
Sebastian coolly remarked on the side: "If you get any thinner, there will be nothing left but skin."
"What do you know," Amber retorted at him, "Being on camera makes you look fatter."
Isabella accepted everything graciously: "I'll eat them for you; don't worry."
"Sister-in-law is the best..." Sebastian looked at the two girls being affectionate and felt quite unhappy.
He pulled Isabella closer to his side: "Go focus on your work."
"I'm not a man; why would you be jealous? It's ridiculous." Amber pouted her lips, "I'm your sister after all."
The elevator doors opened and Joshua walked out.
Seeing the three of them standing there, he raised an eyebrow: "Everyone's here."
"Hey," Amber waved at him, "we were just waiting for you. If I hang around here any longer as a third wheel
