Chapter 234 I Will Be There to Give My Statement on Time

As Isabella looked around the throng, she saw the bodyguard sigh with relief as he tried to brief the onlookers on the situation. She could not hear his words well.

She saw Grace fumbling with her phone at the same moment, as if she was attempting to make a call.

Was she asking Lynda for assistance?

Would Lynda finally be brought into this?

Isabella ran over, almost going into a jog.

She saw that the bodyguard grabbed Grace's phone away as soon as she put it close to her ear, so maybe it was payback for her and Lynda's wrongdoings. The phone fell out of their hands in a scuffle, landing far away.

Nobody noticed the phone since everyone else's attention was on something else. Grace found herself in the center of the chaos once more.

Isabella picked up the phone from the floor by moving faster, bending down low.

To her luck, the phone's screen was still lit up, unlocked, and ready to use.

Isabella struggled to recall a moment when her life had gone so well. It seemed as though everything was working in her favor!

Though she wasn't very religious, she mentally noted to offer a little prayer of gratitude upon returning home.

She quickly browsed through the call history; no contacts were stored inside.

Quite cautious and smart.

Then, she checked the text messages between Grace and this number.

Bingo!

Several messages began with "Lynda."

So this really was Lynda's number!

It was like finding a needle in a haystack without even looking.

Isabella couldn't shake the feeling that wonderful things happened to nice people. Even though Sebastian refused to deal with Lynda, it appeared that luck had come to her aid.

A smile stretched over her face, her eyes forming crescent shapes and dimples showing just beside her smile.

She inhaled deeply to calm down the excitement inside her.

Being cautious, she hid around the corner to keep herself from being noticed and to ensure Grace didn't get suspicious.

Afterward, she ran forward and yelled, "Officer!" as soon as the frantic officers moved the bystanders aside and led Grace to the police car.

The car door closed, but one officer was still outside.

Fortunately, he was a detective. Hearing Isabella, he stopped and turned to look at her. "Do you need something?"

Isabella felt her heart race. "Hello, I'm one of the victims in the Grace hitman case. I have some intel that could help."

He said, "Ma'am, please proceed."

"I found this..." Her heart raced even faster with her eagerness.

"Take your time," he said gently.

She regained her composure, embarrassed at her haste. "Grace dropped her phone during the commotion earlier," she said, holding out the phone with a serious attitude.

"It was still unlocked when I picked it up." She once again showed him the phone. "Since I'm a victim, I knew there could be more to Grace's story, so I scrolled through her recent calls and messages, and sure enough, I found proof of an accomplice."

She had prevented the phone from locking, keeping the screen active the whole time.

She went to the suspicious messages, saying, "Take a look for yourself. Some things just can't be faked."

"Okay," the officer gave a nod. "Since you claim to be one of the victims, would you mind accompanying me to provide a statement? Regarding the individual mentioned in these messages, we'll bring them in for interrogation and carry out a comprehensive investigation."

This was ideal, even beyond it!

Isabella was certain that Sebastian wouldn't be able to keep Lynda safe for much longer with the texts holding significant proof and the police summoning her for questioning.

And, well, even if he did try...

With a smirk, she decided that Lynda would be challenged by a secret audio being uploaded online.

She had to admit; working alongside Sebastian had been quite educational.

She wasn't sure what his boundaries would be, though, if he ever discovered that she was using his own strategies against his most beloved woman.

Never mind. She couldn't focus on the consequences of angering Lynda; it was the least of her worries after how Lynda had mistreated her!

Isabella nodded firmly and said, "That's feasible."

As Sebastian brought his car over from the garage, he saw Isabella standing with a few police officers.

As she was discussing something with them, they seemed ready to whisk her away.

"What's going on?" he said with a sour expression as his face darkened, a scowl forming on his brow as he went up and grasped her arm.

The officer asked, "And you are?"

"He's my husband. Everything's okay. You go ahead, I'll go to give a statement on time." Before Sebastian could say anything, Isabella hurriedly interrupted, telling the policeman leave.

Slowly, the police cars withdrew, and Sebastian glanced down to ask, "What happened?"

"It's nothing. just Grace making a scene earlier. But now that they've taken her in, everything is fine," Isabella said.

His deep, dark eyes were fixed on hers as he asked, "What statement are you talking about?"

She evaded eye contact as her heart raced, "Just... That the officer recognized me as a victim and a witness, so he asked me to go make a statement,"

She said as she glanced at the time, "You're busy, aren't you? I can just catch a cab over,"

"Isabella, you're hiding something from me."

She felt burdened by his resolute and forceful statement.

She was indeed scared of him. His imposing presence almost forced her to make a confession.

However, did that imply she deserved to be bullied?

If Marcus hadn't protected her, it could've been her who laying in a hospital bed— even worse, submerged six feet below.

Her own needs had to come first, even if she disregarded Marcus's bravery.

After always being belated, misunderstood, and slapped across the face...

Amidst those thoughts, Isabella's resolve only hardened, "No, not at all."

Sebastian searched her face and gestures for a clue.

"Just go on with your day. I won't be in the office. I'll go make a statement, then drop by to check on Grandma."

He responded coolly, "Let's go together."

"Huh?"

"Why, do you find it a pain?" With an obvious edge, his tone was neutral but commanding as Sebastian turned to face her.

As Isabella stretched her hands to wipe the sweat from her palms onto her slacks, she felt an itching rash coming out on her skin, a bodily reaction of discomfort she tried to endure.

"Of course not. I just don't want to burden you," she shook her head. "Consider this; Without you, the company can't work well. You can secure transactions for millions of dollars in a minute, so you shouldn't waste your time hanging around with me."

"That's quite a mouthful," he said, opening the car door and raising his chin a little. "Get in."

His penetrating stare made Isabella feel as though she was bare naked with nothing hidden.

She bowed her head to get inside the car, bending over as she folded her knees.

Sebastian followed inside and pulled out his phone. His thin fingers drummed once or twice, messaging someone unknown.

She tried to peek, but she felt guilty. In the following second, the car shot off.

She firmly gripped the seatbelt.

Fortifying herself psychologically, she told herself repeatedly that once Lynda was in jail, everything would be over.
