Chapter 216 I Will Play the Part of a Qualified Wife

Nicole understood that.
Staggering to her feet, Nicole said, "You claim you love Brittany, so you never loved me, is that it?"
He squinted his eyes, "Love you? Who do you think you are?"
"But I love you, Joshua," Nicole said, "It's my love for you that gave me the courage to do those despicable things, so that I could have you to myself..."
"Your love is too filthy and cheap to be presented to me."
Nicole laughed, "You say that about me, and I have no objections. But have you ever thought that, in Brittany's eyes, your love might also appear just as dirty and cheap?"
Joshua's expression turned sour.
"I'm not wrong, am I? The truth about that night is only known by you and me. In Brittany's eyes, you're still that cheating scoundrel who was caught in the act!"
"Shut up!" Joshua walked past her and sat down on the couch, "Provoking me won't do you any good, Nicole!"
"Well, we're on the same side now. Being so harsh with me doesn’t benefit you. Be careful... I might go tell Brittany that you didn't cheat."
Joshua looked at her, "You wouldn't dare."
"You’re getting nervous, huh?"
"Get out," he said, "and don't come back here without my permission!"
Nicole stood in front of him, "Aren't you going to ask how I found out about you and Brittany rekindling old flames?"
"You’ve been tracking me? Or investigating me?"
"Neither." Nicole smiled, "If you want to know, I can tell you. But at the same time, I want to ask you, why do you still plan to marry me while you’re entangled with Brittany; what’s that about?"
Instead of answering, Joshua asked back, "You tell me, why is it?"
"Because you love her? You want to spend more time with her?"
"Yes."
"That's really pathetic. Brittany probably despises you in her heart, but she stays by your side because of your pressure."
Joshua frowned deeply, "How exactly did you find out? Tell me!"
"You carry Brittany's scent on you; I've smelled it twice now," Nicole said. "Once could be coincidence, but twice? Plus, you've been neglecting me lately, so naturally I guessed you had been seeing her."
"Scent?"
"Yes, Brittany has this faint fragrance about her, maybe it's her shower gel or something. Anyway, that scent can’t be replaced by any perfume. Yet it lingers on you."
Having said her piece, Nicole turned around, "I’m leaving. Joshua, although I don’t know why you’re doing all this, I look forward to the day you tell me."
"Unlikely."
"Maybe I could help you," she said. "After all, I love you; I love you without limits."
However, after she said this, she waited in vain for Joshua's response.
Hah...
She had not expected that after such a big detour, Joshua's heart was still set on Brittany.
Nicole had become a laughingstock, arrogantly brandishing her status, thinking she had all of Joshua.
But she never did! Never!
The door clicked shut, leaving Joshua alone sitting on the couch, looking out the floor-to-ceiling windows at the expansive river view.
Then, he leaned back against the couch and closed his eyes.

In the evening, at the old Lawrence Family mansion.
The butler had received a phone call from Kaine in the afternoon, informing him that Sebastian would be coming over for dinner with his wife that night.
This was a big deal, so the butler immediately set about arranging the kitchen to prepare a lavish dinner.
Amber originally had a scheduled appearance that evening, but she canceled it to make time to rush back home.
The sound of brakes echoed, and then all fell silent.
Afterward, Isabella and Sebastian got out of the car, one after the other, each walking their separate ways as if to keep to their own paths without interference.
Isabella thought since there was a fair distance from the garage to the hall and it was dark around, they didn't need to immediately start acting like a loving couple.
Thinking this, suddenly, Sebastian said, "Isabella, don't move."
Isabella clearly felt him stop in his tracks as Sebastian's deep voice echoed in her ear.
"Huh?" Isabella thought something might be in front of them, as the shadow of the cemetery seemed to loom again.
Her foot hovered in the air momentarily, quickly retracting it before she took a step back, not daring to walk forward.
She turned her head and anxiously asked Sebastian, "What is it? A snake... a snake?"
Sebastian confirmed, "Yes."
Isabella's face went as white as paper. Her legs stood rigid, yet she couldn't help trembling. She asked Sebastian, "Is it moving?"
Why was he standing so far away?
Shouldn't a normal man immediately run over to protect a girl?
Sebastian, with hands in his pockets, glanced at the ground near Isabella's feet, seemingly ignoring Isabella's pleading expression.
He nodded, "Yes, it's moving."
Isabella's pupils shrank, and she began blinking rapidly.
Sebastian met her gaze, nodding, "Why are you just standing there, run..."
"Ah!" Something snapped in Isabella's mind.
She let out a cry and ran towards Sebastian, burying herself into his chest, gripping his waist tightly, and speaking rapidly, "Is there another way? Is there no other path?"
Sebastian looked at her dependent gesture and the corner of his mouth curved in satisfaction, "Coward."
Then he took off his coat and draped it over Isabella, wrapping his arm around her waist, "Let's go; what are you afraid of when I'm here?"
Upon hearing Sebastian's deep voice and feeling his warmth, Isabella's panic miraculously dissipated, and she followed Sebastian step by step.
As they passed the spot from earlier, she stealthily peeked.
There was nothing there.
At that moment, laughter came from above.
Isabella froze for a few seconds, then looked up, "You were lying to me?"
Sebastian didn't dodge or hide, "Maybe it ran away, or perhaps, my eyes were playing tricks on me?"
That was clearly an evasion!
Isabella wasn't that foolish.
Around her waist, Sebastian's broad palm pressed against her, his index and middle finger tapping alternately, "Wouldn't it be unfair for you to insist that I lied to you?"
"You..." Isabella was at a loss for words as she tried to push Sebastian's hand away.
But Sebastian applied more strength.
"Sebastian, you don't have to do this. I will play the part of a qualified wife in front of Grandfather; I won't talk out of turn; I'll take good care of the child, and I'll pave the way for you."
He treated her like a treasure because of the child, but once the child was born, she'd be nothing but scrap metal.
She couldn't bear such cruelty, so she decided to lay it all out.
Sebastian frowned and stopped in his tracks, "Is that what you think of me?"
‘Wasn’t that the truth?’ Isabella thought to herself and smiled faintly.
