Chapter 371 The Surgery Was Successful
Amber blurted out, "Why'd you marry Isabella if you knew about the favor? Were you scared Lynda might have complications during childbirth? So, you married Isabella to have a legitimate kid, then planned to send her away and marry Lynda? Seems like a win-win, but..." She shook her head. "But Sebastian, that's not you."
Sebastian stayed quiet, his brows furrowed, looking a bit annoyed. He changed the subject: "Amber, what I was trying to tell you is that Mom owes Lynda's mom, and so do we."
Amber nodded. "Got it, Sebastian."
"So, you don't have to pay Lynda back, but you should stay out of her business. We did own her a favor."
Amber felt overwhelmed by all the info. She had questions, but Sebastian wasn't giving answers, and she couldn't piece it together herself.
She had no idea her thoughts matched Sebastian's initial thinking. That's what they call telepathy! But now, Sebastian had changed his mind.
Amber lowered her head. "Okay." She was really confused. It was a lot to take in, and she needed time to process.
The corridor fell silent again, so quiet you could hear a pin drop.
Around the corner of the operating room corridor, Samuel, who had overheard everything, quietly left.
Lynda was in the hospital lobby when she saw Samuel walking towards her. She stood up and asked, "Samuel, did you find the car keys?"
Earlier, they had gone downstairs together, but Samuel said he lost the car keys and went back alone to look for them.
Samuel, who had just had his blood drawn, looked even paler. He was already handsome, but now he looked even more refined.
Samuel's lips turned down slightly. "No, I couldn't find them. Let's take a taxi back."
Lynda nodded, "Okay." She turned to support Samuel.
Samuel smiled, "It's just a blood draw. I'm not a patient." He pulled his hand back, then hesitated. "Lynda, what about your parents if you come with me to Silvercrest?"
Lynda hadn't planned to go to Silvercrest, but she replied, "I'm an orphan, remember? My parents died over twenty years ago."
Talking about it made Lynda lower her head sadly. "I only have you, Samuel."
Samuel lightly patted Lynda's shoulder. "I'll always be here." As he said this, he furrowed his brow slightly.
The timing matched what Sebastian had just said.
Samuel didn't tell Lynda what he had overheard. In the end, he was selfish.
Samuel was a businessman, and after chasing Lynda for so long, he was just a step away from having her completely. There was no reason to push her away.
If Lynda knew about the favor involved, she might regret it and go back to Sebastian.
What he said before about Sebastian divorcing to marry Lynda was just a passing thought.
"Lynda, I promise I'll take care of you and never let you suffer again," Samuel said, tilting his head to plant a gentle kiss on her forehead. He then placed a firm hand on her shoulder and led her away.
Just as they were about to hail a taxi, a car pulled up in front of the hospital. The driver quickly got out and opened the door for William.
"Mr. Lawrence, take it easy."
William pushed the man aside, using a cane to steady himself as he walked unsteadily towards the hospital.
The sound of his cane hitting the floor echoed crisply. Usually kind, William now wore a deep frown.
"Grandpa," Amber called out, noticing him and immediately walking up to him.
William anxiously asked, "How's Isabella? What did the doctor say?"
Amber felt frustrated. "She's still in surgery. We don't know yet." She glanced at Sebastian, seeing his tense expression, and felt a pang of heartache.
Lowering her voice, she said, "Grandpa, Isabella's not doing well. Sebastian's in a bad mood. Please don't scold him. He just got back from Aurora Isle, and now this with Isabella. It's more stress than any of us can handle."
After all, she couldn't help but feel sorry for her brother.
William sighed, "You're too biased towards Sebastian. Isabella's suffering, too." Despite his words, concern laced his tone.
Looking towards the operating room, William sighed and shook his head. "I hope Isabella can make it through. Just a few days after their happy moments, why did this have to happen?"
Amber's eyes grew moist. "She'll be fine; she has to be."
Sebastian's phone kept buzzing with messages. He had people investigating the situation to distract himself.
But it wasn't helping much. Sebastian's mind was filled with the image of Isabella covered in blood.
He could even recall the cold touch of her fingertips. His fingers felt numb, slightly trembling, and bending involuntarily.
The door of the operating room suddenly opened. Thomas's face appeared in Sebastian's line of sight.
His heartbeat quickened. His throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton, making it hard to speak.
Sebastian stared at Thomas, his eyes cold and fierce, ready to react strongly to any bad news.
"Mr. Lawrence," Thomas said, trembling slightly, trying to force a smile, "The surgery was successful. The mother and children are safe."
The word "safe" echoed in Sebastian's mind, and Thomas's tone kept replaying in his ears. He was first dazed, then a warm feeling spread throughout his body, gradually dispelling the chill.
Sebastian seemed to come alive again. "Okay," he managed to force out.
William took a few steps forward with his cane, looking at Sebastian, who stood nearby without a smile, a hint of worry crossing his face.
William quickly asked Thomas, "How is Isabella?"
Standing alone with Sebastian, Thomas felt a cold sweat despite the good news.
Although the surgery was successful, Sebastian's current demeanor didn't seem like someone who had just received good news.
Could there be some dark secrets in all this?
