Chapter 333 Samuel, Help Me, Please
After Sebastian finished giving instructions, he waved his hand, gesturing for Kaine to leave. Once Kaine had departed, Sebastian's phone rang. He furrowed his brow, glanced at it, and then answered with a composed tone, "Samuel, what's the matter?"
On the other end of the line, Samuel stood by the floor-to-ceiling window, wearing a smile that masked underlying malice. "Mr. Lawrence, something's come up on my end. I might have to bail on our 4:30 meeting today. Can we reschedule for another day? I deeply apologize for the inconvenience,, and the timing is entirely up to you."
Sebastian tapped his finger against the desk lightly. Despite his aversion to being stood up, since Samuel had made this call, he saw no reason to make an enemy out of him. After exchanging polite pleasantries, Sebastian ended the call.
The wall clock pointed to 3:25 p.m. Sebastian rose and made his way to the conference room.
At the Hilton Hotel, in the Presidential Suite.
After hanging up the phone, Samuel put away his mobile, his smile gradually fading. Meanwhile, Lynda stood at the bathroom door, wrapped in a bathrobe, biting her lip, eyes glistening with tears. "Samuel, were you originally planning to discuss business with the Lawrence Group today? Did I interfere?"
Samuel extinguished his cigarette and turned around. "Just a little compensation."
Pausing for a moment, he smirked, "Compared to you, it's nothing."
Lynda's face reddened slightly, displaying a hint of guilt. "I'm sorry, Samuel, I... I've been disappointing you."
Samuel didn't say anything in response. He sat on the sofa, patting the spot next to him. "Come here, sit down and tell me what's going on. If you want my help. I need to figure out the situation."
At his words, tears silently streamed down Lynda's face. She sat dignified next to Samuel, head bowed, and kept sniffling. Samuel pulled out a tissue and handed it to her.
The next moment, she suddenly embraced Samuel, burying herself in his arms, crying uncontrollably.
Over the years, Samuel had been involved with many women, but there was a faint glimmer in his heart for this pristine figure. Now, with this out-of-reach girl draped in a bathrobe and collapsing in his arms, it was hard for him not to feel something.
Samuel's voice became hoarse, "Lynda, loosen your grip and tell me what's going on first."
He patted Lynda's back, trying to maintain his composure amidst the tender moment.
Lynda could sense the weight in Samuel's voice, and she swallowed back her emotions. At the same time, she felt a tinge of disdain.
In her eyes, Sebastian was the most perfect man in the world. Despite her seducing him directly a few days ago, he remained indifferent, showcasing his strong self-discipline. Unlike other men who easily fell into temptation, he was steadfast.
Lacking in fortitude, one may struggle to achieve significant success.
"Samuel," despite her underlying disdain to him, Lynda appeared yearning and dependent on the surface. She said, "As I've told you before, I've always had feelings for someone. Do you remember?"
Having spent so many days in Maple Valley, Samuel was well aware of what he should know, and he knew exactly who that person was.
"Yes, I remember. I always thought that person was a fictional character you created to reject me," Samuel probed knowingly, "Who is he?"
"You know him," Lynda cried, "It's Sebastian."
"Mr. Lawrence?"
Lynda nodded gently, tears streaming down her face. "I've never admitted it because Sebastian is married. I was afraid of damaging his reputation, so I hesitated to tell the truth."
Upon learning about the situationship between Lynda and Sebastian, Samuel had tried to investigate, but Sebastian's information was well hidden, and he didn't find much.
"Mr. Lawrence is indeed married, and I've seen how well he gets along with Mrs. Lawrence. At least, when we met in Silvercrest, they seemed very intimate."
Samuel raised an eyebrow, looking directly at Lynda. "Is there any skeleton in the cupboard ?"
Lynda clenched her hands tightly, almost causing herself pain. "Of course there is!"
Her voice sharpened, "Sebastian and I were in a relationship, but then he turned around and married Isabella. They claimed to be a contractual couple, mere husband and wife in name, just to brush his grandfather off. Yet, Isabella shamelessly enticed Sebastian, leading to their affair, while I was left on the periphery."
"And on top of that, Isabella... she's pregnant. If you hadn't told me earlier, I would have continued to be deceived," Lynda cried out, "Today, Isabella forcibly propelled me towards the thoroughfare, putting me in imminent danger of being struck by a vehicle. Despite being the obvious victim in this scenario, Sebastian callously abandoned me outside and departed with Isabella."
Every word Lynda spoke was a lie. She knew very well that Sebastian had never confirmed a relationship with her, but what did lying matter? As long as she could elicit sympathy from Samuel and get his support, she didn't mind fabricating the story.
Having had some interactions with Isabella, Samuel felt a hint of doubt about Lynda's words. Could such a bright and confident woman stoop to such despicable actions? But in the presence of his cherished one, Samuel's heart naturally leaned towards her. They had known each other for years while his acquaintance with Isabella was fleeting.
Who was trustworthy and who was not was quite obvious.
Samuel's expression darkened, his brows furrowed, his usual smile replaced with a cold seriousness. He raised his hand, wiping away the tears from Lynda's face, "In that case, come with me to Silvercrest. I'll take care of you properly. You understand my heart."
Tears welled up in Lynda's eyes, "But, Samuel, my... my heart can only hold one person. I... I'm destined to disappoint you."
"After he treated you like that, you... still love him?" Samuel's brows furrowed, his expression turning grim.
Lynda defended, "He was beguiled by that malevolent woman. Moreover, in high society, women who bear children often wield power. Thus, it wasn't entirely his fault that he favored the woman who bore his child."
Samuel's heart twinged. He grabbed Lynda's wrist. "You're just making excuses for him."
"No, he's a good person. He's only been deceived," Lynda's voice quivered, her face clouded with sorrow, her eyes pleading, "Samuel, let's not talk about him. Help me, please?"
She clutched Samuel's hand tightly. "Help me punish that wicked woman who mistreated me. Can you do that? I'm not asking you to help me get back to Sebastian. I just want to punish the person who took what was mine."
Lynda leaned forward subtly, her captivating body before him swaying with her movements.
Samuel found his gaze riveted to her..
"I had a friend who helped me deal with Isabella before, but it didn't work out. Not only did Isabella go unpunished, but my friend ended up in jail. I'm useless, unable to protect myself or my friends."
As she spoke, tears rolled down her face and splattered on the couch. "Samuel, I've truly hit rock bottom. Please, help me, can you?".
Samuel turned his face away, his gaze shifting elsewhere, his throat bobbing.
