Chapter 424 His Brittany, Pregnant with His Child
So, here was the deal. Back then, Brittany totally forgot about any safety measures. By the time she remembered the birth control pill, it was already way past the 24-hour mark.
Brittany's brain was going a mile a minute. She suddenly remembered that the day she and Joshua had their final blowout, she felt super nauseous and even threw up.
At the time, she thought it was just stress. But now...
Was she actually pregnant?
Brittany froze up, feeling like a block of ice in Isabella's arms.
"Brittany," Isabella called out softly.
Brittany didn't seem to hear her. She swallowed hard, looked down, and slowly reached out her hand.
Just as she was about to touch her stomach, she yanked her hand back and clenched her fists tight.
Then she spun around, gripped the edge of the sink, bent over, and puked even harder than before.
Brittany felt sick to her core. How could she not?
She thought, 'This kid is as gross as Joshua, and as gross as me. Just gross, all of it.'
All those humiliating memories, and now this maybe-baby, just came rushing back.'
Her tough-girl act shattered into a million pieces.
"You didn't do anything wrong," Isabella said, her voice full of sympathy, silently cursing Joshua. She held back her anger and softened her tone, "Let's get you to the hospital. We'll figure this out."
Brittany closed her eyes, her eyelashes trembling.
All she could say was, "So dirty."
She turned on the faucet, shoved her arm under the cold water, and scrubbed her skin until it was red and raw.
"Brittany!" Isabella turned off the faucet, scolding gently, "Why are you punishing yourself for his mistake? You haven't even been checked yet. You don't know if you're pregnant!"
Brittany stopped hurting herself immediately.
She grabbed Isabella's hand like a drowning person clinging to a lifeline.
Isabella was her lifeline now.
She repeated Isabella's words, "It's not my fault; it's not my fault."
"Exactly," Isabella's eyes filled with tears. She sniffled and nodded.
"I didn't want to sleep with him," Brittany whispered, trying to explain, "I had no choice."
"Of course!" Isabella hugged Brittany, patting her back, "Joshua forced you. You had no way out. You didn't want anything to do with him. You're not dirty at all, you're amazing, you know? Don't blame yourself for everything. Don't be silly."
Brittany's rationality slowly returned.
"Isabella, thank you," Brittany said, her voice choked, "I'm so grateful and lucky to know you."
"Why so mushy?" Isabella looked up, trying to hold back her tears, "Let's go to the hospital. If you're really pregnant, we'll handle it."
Brittany trembled as she said, "Okay."
Early in the morning, Isabella rushed Brittany to the hospital.
By around nine in the morning, they had all the test results.
She was seven weeks pregnant.
Most of the people there for check-ups had their boyfriends or husbands with them.
So, it was kinda ironic. Everyone else there for check-ups that morning was all hyped up about their babies.
A couple near Brittany and Isabella were hugging and laughing, their joy echoing through the hallway like a happy tune.
Isabella held Brittany's cold hand, not knowing what to say.
Brittany stared at the ultrasound image, seeing the fetal heart, the fetal bud, and the yolk sac.
This was a new life.
Like a tiny sprout in spring, life had just begun.
Brittany stayed still, her hair covering her face. Isabella couldn't see her expression until she heard the sound of tears hitting the paper.
Brittany was crying.
No sobs, no shaking. If it weren't for the tears soaking the paper, Isabella would've thought Brittany was just studying the ultrasound report.
Isabella bit her lip, her eyes turning red.
She could see Brittany's hesitation.
If she could really go through with an abortion, she wouldn't be crying.
Isabella swallowed the lump in her throat. "There are a lot of people scheduled for abortions today. Let's come back another day, okay?"
Brittany couldn't say it, so Isabella said it for her.
If she couldn't handle it now, then they wouldn't do it now.
"Okay," Brittany said, struggling to get the word out.
She wiped her tears, pushed her hair back, revealing a cold face.
Then, she tossed all the test results into the trash can next to the bench, acting like nothing happened.
"Let's go, Isabella," Brittany stood up.
Isabella held her waist, helping her stand up slowly.
Maybe it was because she had two babies in her belly, Isabella's maternal instincts were on overdrive, making her super sensitive.
Thinking about the baby in Brittany's belly, destined for abortion, her eyes reddened again, her heart aching.
They left quietly, stepping into the elevator in silence.
Where they had been sitting, a heavily disguised man sat down.
Joshua's bony hand reached into the trash can, trembling as he picked up the papers Brittany had thrown away.
Joshua carefully spread them out on his lap, smoothing them out.
Seeing the words clearly, Joshua covered his face, letting out a painful sob.
Joshua had lost a lot of weight.
When he bent over, his spine stuck out, looking pretty scary.
Joshua couldn't stop his tears.
He was smiling, but as he smiled, salty tears seeped through his fingers, dripping onto the floor.
Just as he had guessed, his Brittany was really pregnant with his child.
This child was the fruit of their love.
But with just half a year to live, how could he dare to keep this child?
Joshua's smile grew wider.
He had personally pushed away the one he loved, severed their feelings, and destroyed their most beautiful memories.
Now, was he going to get rid of his child?
How laughable; how unfair.
"Sir," someone stood in front of him, asking, "Are you okay?"
Joshua realized he moved his mouth, but he didn't know what he said.
Then, he stood up.
He carefully folded the papers, placing them in the inner pocket of his suit, close to his heart.
