Chapter 128 I Admit, You Win
Lynda's face revealed an awkward expression, but she quickly concealed it and put on a pitiful look.
"Isabella, I'll kneel down and plead with you, begging for your forgiveness..."
"No need," she shook her head, "let's just leave it at that."
Isabella's voice was filled with exhaustion and coldness.
Sebastian glanced at her, feeling a sudden pang in his heart.
Pain spread through every fiber of his being, but he couldn't truly feel it without paying attention to it.
Isabella looked at Sebastian, with a hint of a smile on her lips.
"Before Lynda came, you were by my side, protecting me, telling me not to be afraid because I had you..."
"But as soon as she came, you immediately went to her side. So decisive, without hesitation, not even sparing a glance at me. Just how worried are you that she might get hurt by that knife?"
"The weight of importance is obvious, Sebastian... I think, from now on, I won't be able to deceive myself anymore."
These past two days, she hadn't caused any trouble or made a scene. Only a few argumentative words left her mouth, seemingly maintaining a calm appearance.
Yet, deep inside Isabella's heart, there was still a trace of hope.
Perhaps Sebastian also harbored some feelings for her?
After all, they share a bed, and he's the last person she sees before going to sleep at night and the first person she sees in the morning.
This month of being together should leave some kind of impression in Sebastian's heart... or so she thought.
But Isabella was wrong, dead wrong.
In the end, it all comes back to Brittany's words. This man, he's heartless and ruthless!
Even if he has feelings, they will only be for that one person, and nothing... absolutely nothing will fall onto her.
Watching the glimmer in Isabella's eyes gradually fade, Sebastian's hand trembled slightly.
"Isabella," he called out her name with a deep voice, "you..."
"It's nothing, let's just leave it at that."
Isabella interrupted him, then looked at Lynda and smiled.
"I admit, you win. Are you satisfied? Are you happy now?"
In reality, Isabella understood.
She could win against Lynda, whether in an argument or reasoning. As long as she wanted to, she could win.
But by winning against Lynda, she would lose to Sebastian.
She only lost to Sebastian... not to Lynda!
She lost disastrously, utterly defeated, in a pitiful state!
But she wouldn't say it out loud, nor did she want Sebastian to know.
He wouldn't understand her.
Let it be... let it be. No matter how much disappointment, no matter how much bitterness, it all ends with "let it be."
It's not about not caring, ... and it's useless.
Isabella turned around and walked upstairs, step by step on the stairs beneath her feet.
Her head felt a bit dizzy, but she stood tall, straightening her back.
Take your time, slowly go upstairs.
Watching her figure, Sebastian took a step forward, almost instinctively wanting to go after her.
"Sebastian."
Lynda firmly grasped his sleeve.
"Isabella has forgiven you. She said it's okay."
"She..."
Sebastian opened his mouth slightly, unsure of what to say.
Yes, let it be, just leave it at that.
Lynda immediately exchanged glances with the people from the Watson family. They hesitated for a second or two before quickly realizing what was happening.
"Thank you, Mr. Lawrence. Thank you, Mr. Lawrence!"
The people from the Watson family hurriedly expressed their gratitude, then helped Bob up from the ground and swiftly ran outside.
Bob was practically being dragged away.
If they were any slower, what if Sebastian changed his mind? That would be disastrous!
In the living room, most of the people had already left, leaving only Sebastian and Lynda.
His gaze retracted from the stairs since Isabella's figure was no longer there.
Sebastian lowered his eyes and looked at Lynda in front of him.
"Sebastian," Lynda's voice was soft, "let's just leave it at this. If Isabella is unhappy about it, I'll talk to her, I'll apologize to her."
Sebastian remained silent.
Lynda spoke gently again, "I know you're in a difficult position, but you should also consider me. I've repaid the kindness of the Watson family, and my parents in heaven would also be happy."
"Lynda," Sebastian spoke slowly, "you shouldn't meet Isabella anymore."
"Why? Doesn't she want to see me?"
"You're not suitable to meet each other."
"Alright, then can I call her?"
Lynda playfully rubbed against him in his embrace.
"I'll apologize to her and hope she won't be angry."
Sebastian furrowed his brows slightly.
"You coming to Willow Brook Estate, the Lawrence family found out."
Lynda's expression stiffened.
"Ah... When I came, I didn't think about all this. Plus, I thought Willow Brook Estate was where you lived, it shouldn't have anything to do with the Lawrence family..."
"With the current situation, you shouldn't go back to your country," Sebastian said. "It will do more harm than good."
"No, Sebastian. Now that the Watson family's matter has been resolved, in the future..."
"Lynda," he interrupted her, "the best solution is for you to go abroad first and stay there for a while."
The smile on Lynda's face slowly froze.
Sebastian was urging her to leave.
And she had to be driven out of New York, back to that unfamiliar place, living alone.
She knew he would have such thoughts, not because of the Lawrence family, but because of... Isabella.
For Sebastian, this woman was definitely not as simple as she thought she was!
When Sebastian told her that he had to marry Isabella in order to marry her, everything was planned for her future marriage into the Lawrence family.
She had her doubts.
Now it seems... Isabella has become a threat to her position.
Of course, as smart as Lynda was, she wouldn't quarrel with Sebastian over this matter.
Arguing with a man is the most foolish way.
Lynda muttered, "Did my secret return to the country cause you trouble? Or should I not have come back?... It would have been better to stay abroad."
"Now is not the time for you to return to the country," Sebastian said. "Nothing has been prepared yet."
"Yes, I should stay abroad. I shouldn't miss you so much, to the point where it hurts. When you have free time, you can come and accompany me, hug me. Wouldn’t that be great? Why should I come back and bother you?"
"Lynda, you know that's not what I mean."
Lynda stared at him straight, her eyes seemingly holding back a pool of tears.
"Then tell me, Sebastian, when is the best time for me to return to your side?"
Sebastian pursed his lips.
"When that time comes, I will naturally come and get you."
"But when exactly is that time?"
"Do you really want to know."
Lynda nodded.
"Yes, Sebastian. I love you very much, I can't be without you, and I can't bear to lose you... I think of you all night long while being abroad. I understand that it's not wise to return to the country now, but I want to see you anytime, anywhere!"
