Chapter 186 Waiting for Her to Love Him

Their eyes met.
After all that had been said, it really just came down to those three words: "I love you."
He wanted her to love him.
And he was willing to wait for her to love him.
So, he loved her.
Did he?
Isabella's mind raced through this logic, almost tying herself in knots.
Sebastian loved her? That was why he was waiting? That was why he wanted her willing consent?
Was he crazy, or was she? Or had the world gone mad?
Sebastian suddenly lowered his head and touched her lips. "Out of the many I could have chosen, why did I pick you?"
Isabella was stunned, not fully grasping the depth of his words.
Chosen after so much consideration... It sounded like there was a story there.
But Isabella was so caught up in the thought that Sebastian might love her that she couldn't escape it.
"Let's sleep," Sebastian said as he moved his lips up to her eyelashes, "Goodnight."
She murmured unconsciously, "Sebastian..."
"Hmm?"
"I... actually..."
Isabella stammered, struggling to organize her thoughts.
Women were the softest at heart, and the most easily swayed by sweet nothings.
Especially at night, in bed, in the arms of a lover, speaking such intimate and lingering words, it was easy to stir that chord deep within.
Isabella felt that, with Sebastian being this way, if she continued to deceive him, it would be too inhumane.
"Actually what?" He patted the back of her head gently, "Don't feel guilty, I told you I would wait for you, and I will. I have both confidence and patience."
"It's not that I reject you, it's just that..."
It was because she was pregnant!
Both pregnancy tests showed that she was pregnant!
Under such circumstances, she definitely couldn't sleep with him!
She had kept it a secret because she hadn't found the right moment to tell him, but now, it seemed she could.
"No matter what it is, I will respect you, Isabella," Sebastian said, "It's enough for me that you are by my side."
"It's because I'm pregna..."
Isabella was about to reveal it when a ringtone from a phone suddenly drowned out her voice.
It was Sebastian's phone ringing under the pillow.
He held her with one arm and picked up the phone with the other, his expression changing slightly as he glanced at the screen.
Although Isabella didn't see the display, she knew it was Lynda calling.
With anyone else's call, Sebastian would have remained expressionless.
As expected, Sebastian pressed the mute button and then got up. "I'm going to take this call. You get some rest."
He got out of bed and walked quickly to the door, only answering the phone when he reached it. "Hello?"
Isabella lay on her side, her hand propping up her cheek, watching as Sebastian's figure disappeared from her view.
He had gone out to take the call. Lynda did it on purpose; she always chose this time of night to call.
Was she trying to disrupt the intimacy between Sebastian and her?
If the two of them had been in the middle of... that, and the phone rang, interrupting them, wouldn't Sebastian be frustrated?
As she thought about it, Isabella chuckled, but then her laughter froze.
What did all this mean now?
Sebastian was comforting her, whispering sweet nothings, and respecting her. Why was he doing all this?
He had given her everything but love.
While Lynda had received everything. She was only temporarily inconvenienced.
"I almost told you... Sebastian," Isabella murmured to herself, "I gave you a chance, and you didn't listen. You'll just have to wait until I feel like saying it again."
She touched her still flat belly, marveling at the wonder of the tiny life growing inside.
"Your daddy doesn't know about you yet, but it's okay, he will find out sooner or later."
"Baby, I'm sorry. After you come into this world, Mommy won't be able to stay by your side."
"But Daddy will take good care of you, as will the Lawrence family. Your aunt, your grandfather, they will love you so much."
"Your stepmother will probably be Lynda. I hope she can be kind to you, not like my stepmother who was sincere in front of my father and then horrible to me when he wasn't around."
After thinking about this, Isabella's mood suddenly became very heavy.
She had lived without her biological mother and had struggled through life with the care of her grandmother, which made things slightly better.
Although her child might very well be Sebastian's only child, cherished by the entire Lawrence family, the heir, and Sebastian would certainly value him greatly...
It would be Lynda who lived with the child day in and day out.
What if she wasn't kind? What if she was exclusionary or targeted the child?
Isabella couldn't possibly protect her child every moment.
"It won't be, it shouldn't be..." she muttered softly, "With this child, the Lawrence family will have an heir, and Lynda's chances of marrying into the Lawrence family will be even greater. If she's unkind to the child, she won't have an easy time herself."
"But what if Lynda is good to the child, and the child becomes attached to her, loves her, then what about me? I carry the child for nine months, go through the hardship of childbirth, and what do I get?"
Mothers were prone to worry.
Even though Isabella had only just become pregnant, the thought of future dangers made her heart ache.
No, she couldn't just sit by; she had to do something.
Isabella unconsciously clutched the blanket and stared blankly at the door.
The door was closed and soundproof, so she couldn't hear anything outside, but Sebastian was definitely on the phone with Lynda.
The person he loved... was still Lynda, wasn't it?
Even though he slept by her side night and day, even though he respected her, it was all just because Sebastian wanted a peaceful year. He was probably doing all this so he wouldn’t spend time and energy arguing with her.
For Sebastian, being good to a woman in exchange for her obedience and preparation for pregnancy was a good deal, wasn't it?
Her mood plummeted.
She didn't know how much time had passed when the door opened, and Sebastian returned.
Isabella sat up abruptly from the bed. "I have something to tell you."
He frowned slightly and quickly walked to the bedside, carelessly placing his phone aside. "What is it? Cover yourself with the blanket; the air conditioning is a bit cold."
As he spoke, he reached for the blanket that had slipped from her shoulders.
But Isabella, anxious, grabbed his hand directly. "Listen to me first."
Sebastian's gaze flickered slightly.
He had indeed gone to answer Lynda's call, and now facing Isabella again, he felt a bit guilty.
He was still seeking a balance.
A balance between two women.
He remembered how Joshua mocked him.
Joshua also said that unless he loved neither, he could find so-called balance with twenty or even two hundred women.
