Chapter 144 Single and Ready to Flirt

Kaine answered the phone, "Hello, Mr. Lawrence, what can I do for you?"

"When you see Isabella, ask her to come to my office."

"Alright."

Isabella changed her clothes and put on light makeup before heading to the Lawrence Group.

Sitting in the car, she looked out the window and couldn't help but think that her interactions with Sebastian had changed drastically since Lynda came back.

Reflecting on it, she and Sebastian hadn't had a proper meal or a peaceful conversation in a while.

Every time, it was either him leaving the table abruptly or them having a big fight or cold war.

And before Lynda came back...

He used to be so considerate and loving towards her.

Sebastian's embrace was warm and comforting, a place where she could always find solace.

Occasionally, he would tease her like a child, displaying an incredibly childish side.

But in front of other people, he would rarely smile or laugh, his expression cold. When he was working, he was serious and focused, making him even more enchanting than usual.

"It's all changed... everything has changed..." Isabella sighed deeply. "There's no going back."

The driver glanced at her through the rearview mirror but didn't say anything.

The car stopped at the entrance of the Lawrence Group, and as soon as Isabella got out, she heard Brittany's voice, "You're here at the company?"

She looked up and replied, "What a coincidence!"

Isabella quickly walked towards her, saying, "I just arrived, and I bumped into you. I owe this twist of fate a cup of coffee."

Brittany laughed, "I'm actually about to go meet a client."

"Oh... well, we'll have to have that drink another time."

"Are you okay?" Brittany asked. "I've heard about everything..."

"I'm fine. It's not like I'm the one who fell into the water. And the Turner Family wouldn't dare to cause trouble for me."

"You've come out of this situation relatively unscathed," Brittany responded, "but Lynda, she..."

Isabella shrugged, "Speaking of which, it is strange. Lynda and I haven't had a private conversation yet."

"She hasn't reached out to you?"

"Nope. Every time she appeared; Sebastian was present. So, we haven't had a chance to talk privately. I have no idea what kind of person she really is."

Brittany looked at her with concern, "Based on what happened with the Watson family, it seems like she has a lot of hostility towards you."

"Who knows what goes on in her mind," Isabella replied, "As long as she doesn't cause any trouble for me, I won't have any issues with her."

"Actually... Isabella, what Lynda thinks doesn't matter. What Sebastian is thinking is what's important."

Isabella's heart skipped a beat.

Brittany felt helpless as she realized Sebastian's deep and mysterious thoughts were beyond her comprehension.

Even if she could guess what he was thinking, there was nothing she could do to change his mind.

"Alright, Brittany," Isabella smiled and changed the subject, "Let's not talk about these troublesome matters. You mentioned taking me out for a drink last time. When are you free? We can go together."

Brittany's face showed a hint of embarrassment upon hearing this, but she quickly hid it with a smile. "Sure," she nodded, "Drinking helps ease worries."

"Okay, I'm off to the company now. Bye!"

Isabella waved, and Brittany watched her enter the Lawarence Group before heading towards her own parking spot.
Just as she placed her hand on the car door handle, another large hand covered it from above, resting on the back of her hand.

Brittany froze. The temperature, the breath, the touch... She didn't need to turn around to know who it was.

"Joshua," she looked at his face reflected in the car window, "You really know how to linger!"

"It's because I linger that I could safely send you home when you were drunk," Joshua said.

Thinking about that incident made Brittany angry. She abruptly pulled her hand back and turned around to face him.

"You have the nerve to say that? Who told you to send me home? Who gave you permission to drag me away from the bar?"

"You were drunk at that time," Joshua calmly replied, "So, I made the decision for you."

"It's none of your business!"

"It is my business. After all, I am your brother-in-law," he maintained his composure.

Brittany glared at him fiercely. "You're insane!"

"Do you not remember?" Joshua asked, "At the bar, you told me that if others asked who I was to you and why I had the right to interfere, I should say I am your brother-in-law. And that is the truth."

"Yes, thank you, brother-in-law," Brittany said sarcastically, "Thank you for sending me home and giving my parents a headache for several days."

"Do uncle and aunt still hold a grudge against me?" Joshua asked.

"Older folks find it hard to let go, unlike me, who is young and forgetful."

Joshua's voice became slightly subdued. "Is that so?"

"Yes," Brittany nodded, "I also hope that next time you see me drinking, you'll pretend not to know me. We should have no connection."

"But I can't do that. What should I do?"

"Then try your best to make yourself be able to," Brittany suggested.

Joshua laughed. "It's impossible. Plus, you won't be able to get into the bar."

His laughter seemed off, so Brittany asked, "What did you do?"

"I'm not afraid to tell you," Joshua answered as his gaze remained fixed on her, "I've already informed those elegant bars you often visit. If they see you... they'll kick you out."

"Joshua!”

"Oh, you remember my name."

Brittany gritted her teeth. "How did I not realize earlier that you are so shameless?"

Joshua pondered carefully. "Maybe... I learned it from Sebastian."

"What are you talking about?"

"It doesn't matter if you don't understand," Joshua replied.

"Brittany, promise me that you won't go to the bar anymore. Those men... have ulterior motives. I understand the way they look at you."

Brittany suddenly laughed. "Isn't that perfect?"

Joshua furrowed his brow. "What do you mean?"

"I'm single and flirty. Anyone capable enough has a chance to become my boyfriend. If they are even more capable, they could become my husband," Brittany said. "Isn't that great?"

"You go to the bar not just to drink, but also for..."

"Go on, don't be embarrassed," Brittany looked at him. "Joshua, bar encounters sound exciting, don't they?"

Joshua's face completely darkened. "I find it... vulgar."

"But a cheating with your girlfriend's cousin and getting caught in a hotel room, and now getting engaged, doesn't that sound a bit vulgar?"

"You need to understand, those men only want to possess you, they won't love you! What kind of encounters are you talking about! How old are you and still believe in such things!"

Brittany replied naturally, "I prefer to believe, brother-in-law, that you're being too controlling."
