Chapter 452 Two Hundred Thousand Engagement Fee

The woman kept a smile and nodded. "Really, Miss Baker. Mr. Lawrence said everything's going as planned."

Lynda, all excited, asked, "Was there a mistake just now? That assistant was just talking nonsense, right?"

She made sure to raise her voice so everyone could hear. Before she could go after Sebastian, she had to fix the mess Samuel made!

Sure enough, when Lynda raised her voice, the crowd started buzzing again.

"Is the engagement still on? Was the assistant just talking nonsense?"

"Is Samuel still coming?"

"Man, this is getting wild."

Little did they know, the real shocker was still on its way.

Edward exchanged a look with the woman holding up her dress, then turned to the mic with an over-the-top grin. "Sorry, there was a little mix-up. The engagement is still on."

The guests started chatting again.

"Here he comes, Miss Baker, your fiancé is here!" Then the hotel door swung open, and a guy in a suit walked in with his head down.

Lynda didn't have time to think about anything else. She put on her best "poor me" face, squeezed out a tear, and looked super upset.

While crying, she took a deep breath and gently wiped her tears away.

Just then, a thunderclap boomed from the sky. The lights went out.

"Is it a power outage?"

"This is creepy."

Lynda's heart skipped a beat. The thunder made her body tremble, and she felt a wave of unease.

The sky outside was dark, and with the lights out inside, it was pitch black. With her vision gone, her hearing got sharper. Footsteps started getting louder, slowly coming closer to Lynda.

Suddenly, a pair of hands grabbed Lynda's arm and yanked her hard. She yelped and fell into someone's arms.

This embrace felt off. She'd been close to Samuel plenty of times, and this guy didn't smell like Samuel. Plus, this guy's body was soft, not like Samuel's firm chest.

It dawned on her immediately that this person was not Samuel!

Just then, the hotel lights flickered back on. A strange face popped into Lynda's view.

The guy looked about forty, similar in height and build to Samuel, but his vibe was totally different, like he was down on his luck.

His eyelids drooped, lifeless, with deep wrinkles at the corners of his eyes, the look of someone who's been through the wringer, his eyes murky.

Whenever Lynda saw people like this on the street, she always kept her distance. She hated this type because they reminded her of her own rough past.

She thought, 'Who is this guy? How did he get here? And how dare he put his dirty hands on me!'

Lynda's skin crawled, her brows furrowed, and she started trembling uncontrollably.

Her eyes widened in disgust as she tried to push him away. But despite his skinny frame, the guy was surprisingly strong and held her tight.

"Let go! Who are you?!" Her words were cut off by a kiss that reeked of smoke.

The moment their lips touched, Lynda's pores exploded, and her hair stood on end.

She thought, 'What the hell is going on? How dare this guy!'

The guests started clapping.

"So sweet," someone sighed.

Another person added, "But this guy clearly isn't Samuel from Silvercrest, right?"

"Miss Baker is impressive, finding a replacement so quickly."

Lynda screamed internally, 'No, no! I have no idea what's happening!'

She was dumbfounded.

Hadn't Sebastian brought Samuel back? Where did this guy come from?

Lynda was momentarily dazed. Even when the guy let go of her, she didn't react.

It wasn't until she felt a wet breath near her ear that she snapped back to reality and heard him whisper, "Mr. Lawrence said if you dare to resist, he'll send you to jail. Be good, or not only will you go to jail, but I also won't get the money."

His breath smelled of alcohol and cheap tobacco, making her nauseous.

"Two hundred thousand dollars, to get engaged to you," he said, laughing.

A sharp pain hit Lynda's heart, and she almost fainted.

This guy was hired by Sebastian! He'd get two hundred thousand dollars to get engaged to her! The fiancé Sebastian mentioned was never Samuel!

The woman holding up her dress never said Samuel would come; she said the fiancé would come, and that fiancé could be any random person.

Lynda had been deceived.

This move was even more vicious than Samuel missing the engagement party.

If the engagement was canceled, at least Lynda's marriage would still be intact. Now, Sebastian aimed to destroy her marriage!

Years of effort and hope were all in vain!

Sebastian didn't care for her or pity her; he was the most ruthless man in the world! He targeted her most sensitive spot and hit it dead on. He was retaliating against her for almost killing Isabella, punishing her mercilessly. This punishment was far more torturous than sending her to jail or even death!

Lynda knew that once the engagement was completed, she would have to marry this man and be tied to him for life, living the same impoverished life she had as a child!

She thought, 'No, no! But if I refuse, will I go to jail? That wouldn't work either. I might end up spending my entire life in prison. Sebastian didn't leave me any way out!'

Lynda struggled to breathe. She raised her head with difficulty, looking in shock and disbelief at the distant, cold-faced Sebastian.

Thunder and lightning flashed, and a bolt of lightning struck through the window, illuminating the hall and casting a stark light on Sebastian's merciless face.
