Chapter 229 Marcus Wakes Up
Sebastian pulled out the car key, "Isabella, don't lie to me and don't act in front of me, I don't like it."
"What are you talking about?" Even though his tone was flat, Isabella felt a chill run down her arm and denied repeatedly, "What lie did I tell? I didn't."
"You’re being evasive," Sebastian squinted, "Let's go."
He turned sideways, took a long stride, and walked towards the hospital.
He had a good figure, broad shoulders, and a narrow waist. He stood out in a crowd and always exuded a noble aura.
Isabella was annoyed at her limited understanding, unable to comprehend this man's sudden, unpredictable mood swings. She truly didn't understand him.
Watching the man gradually moving away, she gritted her teeth and chased after him, raising her head to say, "If you have something to say, just say it. What's the point of beating around the bush?"
"Grace went in five minutes ago," Sebastian asked while walking, "Do I need to say more?"
Isabella was now even more confused about what was going on.
She furrowed her brows in thought, but Sebastian took it as an admission.
"It seems I guessed right," he chuckled faintly, somewhat mockingly, "Back at Willowbrook Estate, you mentioned Marcus' uncertain fate and refused to forgive Grace. Your goal was to make Grace go to the hospital and beg the Cooper family for mercy, thereby letting the Cooper family vent their anger."
As he spoke, Sebastian's sarcastic smile became more apparent, "Isabella, I've done a lot for you, but you've been considering the Cooper family at every turn. Is this how you repay me?"
When he said this, he felt a twitch in his chest, and a tingling pain spread all over his body.
Isabella was speechless, "I don't understand what you're talking about. What I said was just a normal sentence; I didn’t have any ulterior motives. Even if you're jealous, you don't need to overreact like this."
"Also, Sebastian, what do you mean by letting the Cooper family vent their anger? How do you know the Cooper family needs to vent their anger? Do you know that the Cooper family found out that Grace hired some goons to harm Marcus and me but were unable to retaliate?"
As she spoke, Isabella sorted out her thoughts and suddenly realized, "Right, you must know. Otherwise, how would you know that I was investigating this matter? You can't read minds. Sebastian, you've been monitoring me!"
He was so powerful that there was nothing he couldn't find out, and no tricks that could escape his eyes.
Sebastian had no idea how happy she was because of the mere fact that he had helped her deal with Grace.
Although it was temporarily impossible to deal with Lynda, Sebastian's action against Grace was enough to make Isabella overjoyed.
After all, Sebastian was not willing to move against Grace for her before.
Isabella was even deluded that her status in Sebastian's heart had elevated.
See, women were such easily satisfied creatures.
But behind the joy, a dense web was woven.
She was just a bird in a cage, transparent in every move.
The joy that Isabella was feeling had vanished, and she held back thousands of words of accusation, which in the end turned into one faint sentence, "Anyway, thank you for standing up for me after finding out the truth."
Sebastian snorted coldly.
She lost interest, "But let's go. I didn't think like that, and I'm not interested. Besides, you don't want me to have contact with the Cooper family, right?"
Sebastian could feel his blood boiling. He took a deep breath and barely avoided dying from his anger.
He didn't want to think that she had snuck off to see Marcus after getting Brittany admitted to the hospital, so he investigated everything.
Now... it seemed that his actions had backfired.
"Yes," he pursed his lips and nodded, "You're right, I am monitoring you. You're my wife, don't think about caring for other men."
"You!" Isabella was about to explode.
She had moved past this topic, but he kept bringing it up.
Sebastian was inherently proud, so it was impossible for him to forget that the woman carrying his child had a past with another man. He spoke coldly, "Me? What about me? I'm more interested in the upcoming drama, let's go."
He took a long stride, leaving Isabella far behind.
Isabella really wanted to find a place to scream. To vent all her frustrations.
Sebastian was truly the most unreasonable person she had ever met.
And yet his cold voice came over like a siren's song, "Hurry up."
"Coming!" She stomped up to catch up.
Five or six minutes later, Sebastian led Isabella to the room next to Marcus’.
"Money talks" was the only phrase Isabella could use to describe the situation.
This was a VIP ward, with excellent sound insulation. It was quiet next door, and also quiet inside the room.
Isabella sighed, what was all this about?
Suddenly, her wrist was tugged, and Isabella found herself sitting on Sebastian's lap.
She let out a gasp and patted her chest, "What are you doing? You'll scare the baby."
Sebastian wrapped his arm around Isabella's waist, "Nothing will happen while I'm here."
Isabella echoed, "Yes, you are indeed powerful."
Sebastian, with a cold face, asked her helplessly, "Do you ever plan to soften?"
Isabella shook her head, and her heart trembled. She locked eyes with Sebastian for two seconds, and deliberately raised the corners of her mouth, "No."
"Forget it," Sebastian played with the hair behind Isabella, closed his eyes, and leaned back on the sofa, "Take it slow. After all... I almost failed you."
Isabella looked up. Sebastian's eyelashes were very long. They moved slightly, as if they touched her heart, tickling her very essence.
How she wished she could be herself!
But she was not Lynda; she didn't have that luxury.
"I forgot to tell you." As she was looking at him intently, Sebastian suddenly opened his eyes without warning.
Isabella had nowhere to hide and could only honestly meet his gaze, "Wha-what is it?"
There was a slight curve at the corner of Sebastian's left lip.
He pinched Isabella's face, "Marcus woke up; the news came an hour ago."
"Really!" Isabella's eyes lit up, and joy spread across her face.
Sebastian's dark eyes narrowed.
Isabella immediately reined in her joy and explained, "He was injured because of me; he got stabbed for me. Now that he's awake, my guilt naturally lessens."
Perhaps it was the atmosphere between them, which was relatively good at the moment, that Isabella was able to voice her thoughts without hesitation, "I don't love him. That is absolutely true; I can guarantee that I didn't lie to you..."
Sebastian didn't respond, but her firm declaration that she didn’t love him pleased him.
He replied to her first sentence in a good mood, "This is also why I brought you here. Seeing the Cooper family deal with Grace with your own eyes will alleviate your guilt. You've paid back what you owe them, and now you can completely sever ties with them."
In Isabella's heart, it was as if a stone had been thrown into a lake, creating ripples.
So, this was the reason he brought her here.
He was monitoring her, but it seemed like he was also... being good to her?
Just as Isabella was about to sincerely thank him, a figure whizzed past the door.
