Chapter 372 Weren't You Going to Tell Me the Surprise?
Thomas was shaking with fear. William showed up just in time.
"Mr. Wiiliam Lawrence, don't worry. Both the mother and baby are fine," Thomas quickly said.
"I knew it!" Amber, staring at Thomas, grabbed William's arm and shook it excitedly, her joy contagious.
William let out a deep breath, patted Amber's hand, and chuckled, "You're right. Isabella's a lucky girl."
As they laughed, William playfully kicked Sebastian's leg. "What's wrong with you? Can't you smile at the good news? You're stressing me out."
Sebastian didn't respond, towering over Thomas, staring into the operating room, ignoring everyone else.
The sound of rolling wheels caught his attention.
Sebastian held back his emotions, brushed past Thomas, and stood at the entrance, waiting silently. Every second felt like an eternity, and his palms were sweaty.
Finally, the gurney appeared. Even though it was just a short distance, it felt like miles to Sebastian.
Isabella was getting closer, and his heart raced, his body stiff.
"Sir, please move," the nurse pushing the stretcher said.
Sebastian's intense gaze stayed on Isabella's pale face. His throat tightened, and his heart ached.
He stepped aside, following the gurney, disappearing down the hall. Thomas nodded at William and followed.
William watched Sebastian walk away, a relieved smile on his face. "It's clear he cares a lot about Isabella."
Amber beamed. "Sebastian really loves her now. Someone's finally gotten through to him."
"Yeah," William agreed. "I hope they will live a happy life forever. One day, I can tell my wife and your mother that everything turned out okay."
"Absolutely!" Amber nodded confidently. "I heard Sebastian told Lynda that there won't be any third-party interference between him and Isabella."
"He did?" William was surprised.
"Yep," Amber said proudly. "Loud and clear!"
William rubbed his chin, laughing. "Good for him."
The tension eased. William and Amber smiled, and with Amber's support, they found Isabella's ward.
As they stepped out of the elevator, William saw Sebastian talking to Thomas. He grabbed Amber's arm and said, "Amber, let's head back to the Lawrence House."
"Are we?" Amber asked. "Aren't we going to see Isabella? Didn't you say you needed to remind Sebastian of some things?"
William smiled knowingly. "It's okay. Sebastian will take good care of her. Besides, Isabella hasn't woken up yet. Let's come back tomorrow."
"Okay!" Amber agreed, lowering her head to text Sebastian. She told him they were heading back and asked him to take care of Isabella and the baby.
As the elevator doors opened and closed, only Sebastian and Thomas remained in the long corridor.
Sebastian grilled Thomas about Isabella's condition, making sure she was truly okay before he could relax.
"However," Thomas said, "it was a close call. She's fine now, but her body took a hit. She needs to rest and avoid stress, or things could get serious."
"How should we do it?" Sebastian asked.
Thomas went over all the precautions, from diet to exercise to sleep, covering everything. Sebastian listened carefully, even recording Thomas's advice.
"When will she wake up?" Sebastian asked.
"About two hours after surgery," Thomas replied. "Then you can help her with some nutrients and easy-to-digest food."
Sebastian's tense features finally softened, and he relaxed a bit. His dark eyes, once cold, now showed a hint of warmth. He swallowed hard. "Thank you."
Thomas, who had been anxious, was surprised. The seemingly cold Sebastian. Lawrence wasn't so cold after all.
"It's my job," Thomas replied.
Sebastian didn't say more and headed back to the ward.
Isabella lay on the bed, eyes shut tight, face pale, lips colorless, looking fragile. Sebastian sat by her side, covering her cold hand with his. Even after a while, it stayed cold.
If not for the slight rise and fall of her chest, he might've thought Thomas was lying.
Sebastian clasped her hand, bringing it to his lips to warm it. Once her hand was warm, he kissed her fingertips.
He closed his eyes and whispered, "Wake up soon. You have a surprise for me, don't you? I've waited so long. I don't want to wait any longer. I want to know now."
Outside, the autumn wind blew against the window, but the room was eerily quiet. After Sebastian's words faded, there was no sound. Isabella remained still, hearing nothing, saying nothing.
Sebastian released her hand, covered her with the blanket, and headed to the dining room.
On the hospital bed, Isabella was trapped in a nightmare. She saw pools of blood everywhere. No matter where she went, she couldn't escape it.
Suddenly, a chilling female voice echoed like a sinister melody— "No, this isn't blood, it's your children." The blood slowly transformed into the form of children who cried out, "Mom, why can't you protect us?"
Isabella's forehead was covered in cold sweat, dampening the strands of hair at her temples.
