Chapter 447 Spilling the Beans
Isabella felt super awkward. She was the kind of person who wished she could just bury her messed-up side forever.
Now, Marcus and Heather knew all about her recent drama.
Even though she felt all kinds of resistance inside, Isabella couldn't just brush off Marcus and Heather's concern.
She forced a small smile, "Yeah, we patched things up, no worries. My issues have been a bummer for you guys. So, when's the engagement or wedding? I'll totally send a gift."
Heather wrapped her arms around Marcus's neck, all affectionate, "Alright, it's a deal!"
Isabella liked Heather's vibe. She was super outgoing and straight-up.
"Deal," Isabella grinned. "Just make sure to send me an invite. I gotta bounce now, don't wanna be a bother."
"Isabella!" Marcus, who had been frowning and not smiling, finally couldn't hold back and called out to her.
Then, he gently pushed Heather aside and looked at Isabella, who had her back to them, angrily saying, "Your fake smile is so obvious, you know that?"
Isabella didn't move forward, nor did she turn around.
Heather closed her eyes and rubbed her nose, knowing she couldn't stop Marcus anymore.
In Marcus's mind, Isabella was definitely being forced, suffering, and not speaking her true feelings.
But only women knew that she was loving a man so humbly.
"We grew up together, I know you're not someone who can easily compromise. If Sebastian treated you badly, you wouldn't forgive him so easily." Marcus clenched his fists tightly, impulsive yet determined. "If you say you've forgiven him, you must have been forced!"
Isabella wanted to tell him that truly loving someone meant having no principles.
"If Sebastian treats you well and puts effort into making you forgive him, then forgive him. But does he really mean it?" Marcus's voice grew louder, almost questioning, "If he does, would he bring you to this engagement party? Let you witness the happiness of the culprit?"
Isabella had to turn around, her eyebrows furrowed. "Marcus, you misunderstood him. We knew about today's engagement party a long time ago."
"You're still speaking for him!" Marcus's handsome face was filled with anger. "Do you think he's only hiding one thing from you? Isabella, how can you be so foolish?"
The expression on Isabella's face disappeared. After a moment of daze, she opened her lips, "What are you joking about? What else is he hiding from me?"
Not long ago, Isabella had asked Sebastian, but he didn't say anything, which meant he wasn't hiding anything, right?
Marcus's eyes turned red as he looked at the person in front of him. This was Isabella, whom he had fallen in love with at first sight and grown up with.
Once, he could have given his life just to keep her safe.
Marcus was the one who wanted Isabella to be happy the most.
How could he not know that the truth was so terrifying and would hurt her?
"No, I'm not joking. He is hiding something from you," Marcus closed his eyes and said hoarsely, "Isabella, Sebastian is a devil. I can't let him deceive you anymore! He isn't worth you compromising and tolerating him over and over again!"
Marcus knew he shouldn't spill the beans, but today, he had to! He just had to!
"Remember that day, why you braved the heavy rain, kneeling in front of the Cooper family's for help?" Marcus opened his eyes again, bloodshot and intense.
His eyes were a mess of red veins.
Isabella got a bad feeling, her heart skipped a beat, and her right eyelid twitched like crazy.
The sky outside was all gloomy. First, a flash of lightning cut through the darkness, then came the rumbling thunder.
It started pouring outside, heavy rain pounding, and you could hear the raindrops smacking against the window glass.
Right then, Isabella felt like she was back on that rainy night a few months ago.
A familiar yet strange feeling washed over her.
Back then, the Wallace family was on the brink of bankruptcy, Janet was seriously ill, and she was helpless, not knowing what tomorrow would bring.
She thought, 'But now, I have Sebastian.
'No matter how big the problem, he's there to back me up, and I won't feel that despair and helplessness again.
'Everything's getting better bit by bit, right?
'Why is Marcus bringing up those sad memories?'
"Why aren't you saying anything?" Marcus broke the silence, his voice even a bit choked, "That day, how similar it is to now? The rain was just as heavy, and it hurt when it hit your body."
"You knelt on the cold ground, and I," Marcus pointed to himself with his index finger. "I stood on the second floor, watching you kneel there, unable to go out. All I could do was watch you. I watched you kneel on the ground for six hundred thousand dollars, heartbroken. The heir of the Wallace family, whose bag worth more than six hundred thousand, now needed the money desperately."
"I also watched Sebastian," Marcus gritted his teeth, his voice seeping through his teeth, speaking with great difficulty, "save you, and take you away. I watched the woman I loved the most have an irreplaceable man in her heart from then on."
The hatred of losing his love didn't disappear easily. Even now, recalling it, Marcus still gritted his teeth.
Heather wasn't a witness, yet could sense Marcus's pain and sadness from his words.
She fell completely silent, standing quietly to the side.
Listening to Marcus's words, Isabella's knees seemed to ache faintly.
She was lost in thought, recalling how long she had knelt that day.
Isabella had no impression of the exact duration.
But the only thing she remembered was that her legs were numb from kneeling, and when she stood up, she fell back into the puddle.
She also remembered Judy calling her, asking her to trade her purity for the money to save Janet.
In those past memories, Isabella had no dignity at all.
Recalling it now, she still felt terrified, like being in hell.
"Yes," Isabella admitted, "Sebastian did save me."
He extended a hand to her, his long fingers slightly curved, with distinct knuckles.
That day, she didn't place her hand in his, unable to feel the warmth of Sebastian's palm.
But Isabella knew very well that if she had placed her hand in his, it would have been incredibly warm.
