Chapter 426 Going to Sebastian's to Find Evidence?
Isabella snapped to attention. She hadn't expected Samuel to show up again.
"Samuel?" she blurted out, a bit thrown off.
"Yup, it's me," Samuel grinned, sliding an electrolyte drink her way. "It's scorching today. My bad for not thinking about your condition when I asked you out. Looks like you're dealing with a bit of heatstroke. Drink up; this stuff works wonders."
Isabella was even more puzzled. Did Samuel really leave just to grab her a drink?
Samuel raised an eyebrow lazily, giving her a sly look. "Obviously," he said.
Isabella felt super awkward.
Like, really awkward.
Mixing this kind of "friendliness" into a business relationship was something Isabella couldn't handle.
Maybe she was just naturally cold. Samuel's behavior felt intrusive to her.
"Thanks," Isabella muttered.
But she didn't touch the drink. Instead, she pulled out a tissue to wipe the sweat off her face and said seriously, "I'm fine. Sorry for the trouble, Samuel."
Samuel's smile didn't waver. "Mrs. Lawrence, you're joking with your own health."
"This has nothing to do with you, Samuel."
"Why make it a big deal?" Samuel shrugged. "I'm not gonna hurt you. Drinking what I give you doesn't mean there's anything romantic between us."
Samuel's smile grew even brighter. "Is Mr. Lawrence that strict? He doesn't let you accept kindness from other guys?"
Isabella felt a headache coming on from his chatter. She really wanted to bail.
Suppressing her irritation, she asked, "Samuel, what's your game plan here?"
She interrupted him, took a sip of cold water, and tried to calm down.
Samuel's eyes sparkled with interest, but he didn't keep teasing. He sat up straight and said, "Seems like you're really eager to get back at Lynda. Otherwise, you wouldn't be talking to me."
After that sip of cold water, Isabella felt a bit better.
But hearing Samuel mention Lynda made her feel sick all over again.
"She just played you, and you can't handle it, let alone me." Isabella's hand slowly clenched, her expression turning icy. "Samuel, can you now tell me your plan and what I need to do?"
Samuel's gaze stayed on Isabella's face. He saw she was putting on a brave front.
That day at the nursing home, he wanted to hold her and comfort her.
Today, he still wanted to do the same.
Samuel stayed calm, holding back his thoughts. He knew if he got any closer to Isabella, this whole deal would fall apart.
"You know, I've already proposed to Lynda," Samuel said. "An engagement is coming up soon."
Isabella pinched her thigh twice to snap herself out of it.
At first, she was confused, but then she started to get it. "You mean..."
Samuel smirked and nodded but didn't say much. He leisurely sipped his drink and smiled. "You should have figured it out by now. No need to spell it out."
Isabella trembled slightly, realizing just how dangerous Samuel was.
His face, more beautiful and delicate than a woman's, with a perfect smile and calculating eyes.
He was too dangerous.
Isabella suddenly felt a wave of doubt. Was teaming up with Samuel really the right move?
That thought flickered through her mind but vanished just as quickly.
There was no other way. Right or wrong, she had to keep going. This was her only shot.
"Turning the tables, huh?" Isabella muttered under her breath.
"No," Samuel said with a grin. "This is called revenge."
Isabella nodded. "So, what do I need to do?"
"First," Samuel said, cracking open a bottle of electrolyte drink and handing it to her, "drink this, and I'll fill you in."
"Just finding evidence, right?" Isabella didn't take the drink. She was getting frustrated.
She wanted to scream.
Did all these guys think she was an idiot?
"It’s about evidence, yeah," Samuel said, pulling back the drink and getting serious. "And it has to be something that can immediately expose Lynda's intent to kill."
Isabella pursed her lips, her mind racing. Her eyes darted around, and then they lit up. "The video of her pushing me on Serenity Way?"
But then she shook her head. "No, it shouldn't be visible. Lynda disguised it well and found a very clever angle."
"It can be seen; there are flaws," Samuel said confidently.
Back at Pine Ridge Gardens, when Sebastian confronted Lynda, he mentioned this video. He remembered it clearly.
Isabella's eyes brightened. "So, just getting that surveillance video is enough, right?"
Samuel nodded, then shook his head.
He spoke directly, "This evidence is crucial. We need that video. But..."
Samuel stopped, stammering, and didn't continue.
Isabella's bright eyes dimmed, and after a long pause, she sarcastically curled her lips.
She opened her mouth and finished Samuel's sentence, "But since Sebastian wants to protect Lynda, he destroyed that surveillance video, right?"
"No," Samuel said, not daring to look at her. A trace of regret crossed his face. He pressed his brow several times and, seeing Isabella's puzzled eyes, said, "The surveillance video on Serenity Way can't be obtained now because I destroyed it."
"At that time, I didn't see Lynda's true nature. I'm sorry," Samuel sincerely apologized.
Isabella was at a loss for words.
Samuel had genuinely supported and protected Lynda in the past.
So, did Samuel previously have any intention of harming Isabella?
Now, negotiating with such a person was dangerous.
Was she afraid?
Of course.
But what else could she do?
She had no one behind her.
"In that case, what's the point of mentioning this?" Isabella asked. "Giving me hope only to let me down?"
Facing Isabella's calm questioning, he felt embarrassed.
After so many years in the business world, he had forgotten what embarrassment felt like. Now, he felt his face heating up slightly, overwhelmed with embarrassment.
He cleared his throat and said, "Before I destroyed it, Sebastian had already made a copy. You can look for it. This video should reveal Lynda's true nature. It's the most direct evidence and doesn't involve anyone else, only Lynda."
This was indeed the best evidence, but it wouldn't be easy to get.
So, Isabella understood. "You want me to go to Sebastian and find the evidence?"
