Chapter 259 I Have Someone in My Heart
Sebastian was still concerned and furrowed his eyebrows, "I have to go back to the office for some work, so I can't accompany you to the hospital. The family doctor will come over soon, so cooperate with him and get a full check-up."
Hearing his indifferent tone, Isabella understood that the kiss from yesterday was just a distant dream.
She quickly agreed, "Okay."
The car stopped at Willowbrook Estate. Sebastian said, "Go inside."
Fighting off her drowsiness, she left the car.
Walking down the short-pebbled road to the estate, each step felt unusually long.
Since the gaze behind her was so intense, Isabella felt as though he was burning a hole through her back.
This made her feel uneasy. Was Sebastian watching her?
That couldn't be. After all, he made it quite clear not long ago that he saw her only as a means to get a child, in accordance with their agreement.
Isabella quickened her pace and entered the foyer.
Then, she waited obediently for the family doctor to arrive and give her a thorough check-up to ensure the baby was fine. This calmed her down entirely.
Just as she was about to ask the butler to prepare some food, her stomach started rumbling loudly as her phone rang.
"Isabella!! I saw Mr. Lawrence heading back to the office – are you back as well?"
Emily's voice was loud, making Isabella laugh and move the phone away. "Yes, I am. Did you miss me that much? Be careful, or your boyfriend will get jealous."
"Aww, stop it. You're terrible," Emily said, her shyness evident through her voice.
Teasing aside, Isabella continued up the stairs while on the phone, smiling. "Are you on shift today? If not, why don’t we grab some lunch? I haven't had mine yet, and I’ll treat you."
From the other end, Emily suddenly hit the table emphatically. "For friendship, I'd brave anything!"
She then proceeded to cry out in pain, declaring she'd have a hearty meal later at Isabella's expense to make up for it.
Isabella burst into laughter. Emily had always been straightforward and vivacious, never sweating the small stuff as everything she said or did was mostly comical.
After setting the time and place, Isabella went to the dressing room.
Summer heat was already settling over the city, so she chose a loose and airy sundress.
Mid-change, Isabella stopped in her tracks, eyes widening as she stared at her reflection in the mirror.
The dress she was wearing now definitely wasn’t the one she wore yesterday! Did Sebastian... change her clothes?
Her cheeks flushed.
Wait, what about the drug from yesterday? Could it have been...
She quickly shook her head. Although Sebastian didn’t show much interest, the baby was still very useful to him. He surely wouldn't do anything reckless.
He only changed her cloths; nothing more. He probably had no further interest in her body.
Taking a deep breath, Isabella quickly finished changing and grabbed her purse before leaving the dressing room.
She had agreed to meet Emily at Grand Gourmet.
Traffic was messy on the way there, and she was running late. She hurried inside, focused on her destination.
Suddenly, she bumped into someone. She rubbed her nose and apologized repeatedly, "Ouch... I'm so sorry, are you okay?"
"Mrs. Lawrence?"
A man’s voice came with a laugh, and Isabella remembered who it was.
She looked up in surprise, "Mr. Carter?"
Samuel still had that sly, ever-smiling face as he raised an eyebrow at her, "It's me. What a coincidence to see you here, Mrs. Lawrence."
She recalled the last time they met at the golf course, where he mentioned that he was coming to the capital city. She didn’t expect it to be true, and even more so, to run into him by chance.
"It sure is a coincidence," she replied.
"Have you just returned?" he asked.
"Yes," she replied with an apologetic smile. "Mr. Carter, I'm so sorry for bumping into you earlier in my rush. I owe you dinner for that."
"No worries," Samuel replied, one hand behind his back while the other extended in a gentlemanly way, "However, I’ll remember that dinner invitation."
Despite his friendliness, he had a fox-like appearance and a clever nature that couldn't be overlooked. Moreover, his face was more refined than that of many women.
Isabella wasn't used to dealing with such people; they gave her a sense of danger.
She politely continued, "Alright, I'll see you next time, Mr. Carter."
With a subtle nod, she entered Grand Gourmet first.
As soon as she walked in, Emily came and greeted her, wrapping an arm around her. She gently patted her stomach with a teasing glint in her eye, "How come you didn’t tell me I was going to be a godmother?"
With everything that happened recently, Isabella completely forgot. She smiled, "Someone would’ve told you anyway."
"You're so mean!" Emily playfully scolded, poking Isabella's shoulder gently.
Feeling upbeat, Isabella laughed, "Yes, yes, us sisters are always right."
The two giggled and made their way to the private dining room.
Samuel watched from a distance, his smirk turning more sincere after a while.
Isabella was interesting; he rarely encountered a woman who caught his eye at first glance.
It was a shame, he thought; not only was she married, but she was also pregnant.
Shaking his head, he let out a sigh.
A short distance away inside a taxi, Lynda watched Isabella and Samuel’s interaction with great interest.
Her hands and teeth were clenched tight– it was always Isabella!
Why did every decent man she met seem to be charmed by that woman?
She felt a surge of indignation.
"Samuel," she called out, gathering her composure before stepping out of the car.
Samuel turned around with a sincere smile, his eyes twinkling with fondness. "What a coincidence, Lynda. I just got here."
Clutching her purse, she jogged over to him. Her hand was on her chest as she gasped for breath, her urgent voice rising. "Samuel, do you know that woman you were just with?"
The two were classmates in college, and even after Lynda went abroad, they were still in contact.
Samuel knew her situation well, smirking at her jealous tone. "Why? Jealous?"
Lynda balled her hand into a fist, playfully tapping his shoulder like a kitten scratching an itch. "What’re you talking about, Samuel? You know I'm already taken.”
His eyes dimmed slightly; he was aware of her attachments.
Otherwise, why would he immerse himself in his heart’s affair when having just one person to care for was enough?
He chuckled, "You’re really hiding your mysterious lover well. I wonder if he’s even real or not."
"Samuel, you haven't answered my question yet," she pressed with a soft breath, her eyes burning into him. "What’s your relationship with her?"
He guided her to a private booth, pulling out a chair for her. "Take a seat."
Lynda enjoyed his attention. Although his influence didn't compare to Sebastian's, Samuel was still the richest man in Y city. Being cherished by someone like him pleased her.
She urged, "Just tell me already; I'm dying to know."
Samuel sat down across from her and honestly answered, "We aren’t very close. A few days ago, she and her husband discussed a contract with me. Including today, that’s only the second time we've met."
Lynda was rinsing off some utensils while listening. Her hands quivered as she said, "What? She and... her husband were negotiating a contract?"
