Chapter 465 You're not pregnant, are you?
Joshua knew this was exactly what he wanted.
But it still broke his heart.
"Ms. Everly, glad to hear that," Joshua's face went even paler, his Adam's apple bobbing twice as he forced a wicked smile. "For a second there, I was really scared. Thought you might cling to me."
"I'm terrified of exes who can't let go, Ms. Everly, you know that," Joshua stretched and smiled. "Good thing you didn't."
Brittany's heart, already full of scars, still ached.
But more than that, she felt humiliated. The pain was secondary.
She replied coolly, "Mr. Sinclair, no need to worry. I've got things to do, so I'll be leaving now."
Joshua waved her off. "Go on. If I hang around too long with an ex, people might get the wrong idea."
Brittany lifted her leg to leave, trying hard to ignore the strange feeling in her chest, trying hard to maintain a graceful and upright posture.
"Oh, one more thing," Joshua called after her, staring at Brittany's back with a look of utter despair, though his voice was very casual, "The last time we were together, we didn't use any birth control. You're not pregnant, are you?"
Joshua was asking knowingly.
Brittany's steps faltered, her figure wavered.
She didn't turn back, just lowered her head and glanced at her abdomen, a sarcastic smile tugging at her lips.
"Don't worry, I'm not. If I were, I'd get rid of it immediately. Mr. Sinclair, your concern is unnecessary."
Brittany made up her mind.
She really wouldn't keep this child.
Giving birth would not be good for the child; instead, it would make the child live in pain forever.
A father like Joshua would only bring shame to the child.
Then Brittany pressed the elevator button. When the doors opened, she stepped in with large strides.
Joshua kept watching Brittany. He knew Brittany wouldn't spare him a glance. So, he stared at her unabashedly, his eyes filled with longing and greed.
When the elevator doors closed, Joshua leaned despondently against the wall.
He touched his chest, where the pain was so intense it felt numb.
Joshua laughed softly, a bitter smile on his face.
He thought, 'Is there anyone in this world who suffers more than me do? Soon, Brittany would probably abort the child, right?'
Joshua was beyond pain.
Since learning about his illness, Joshua had gradually become familiar with this kind of pain. He was already numb, and now, this body was about to give out.
This pain probably wouldn't last much longer.
Joshua smiled. Now wasn't the time for him to be sad. This visit to the company, provoking Brittany to abort the child, was an unexpected move. He was here to see Sebastian.
Joshua could hear the commotion in the conference room from afar. He frowned with concern and walked towards the room.
"Cut the crap," Joshua stood in front of Kaine and said to him, "A few days ago, my assistant told me that the guy going crazy in there was hospitalized? And yesterday, what was up with the car accident? Why is he so irritable?"
Kaine still didn't dare to speak.
"Kaine," Joshua patted Kaine's shoulder and raised an eyebrow, "You should know, if Sebastian gets angry, you'll be the first to suffer. Spill it. Besides me, no one else would dare to tell Sebastian."
Kaine sighed, thought for a moment, then lowered his voice and succinctly explained the situation.
Joshua's mouth hung open the whole time, a dull pain throbbing at his temples. He pressed his index finger against it and rubbed twice, "Really?"
"Something like this," Kaine coughed dryly, "How could I dare to make it up?"
"That's intense."
In the conference room, Sebastian had knocked all the documents off the table.
The chair he was sitting on was also kicked over.
Sebastian's upbringing never allowed him to lose control and do such things.
But this time, Sebastian couldn't hold it in.
He wanted to kill Samuel and strangle Isabella, demanding how she dared to cheat!
In the end, Sebastian did neither.
He was afraid Isabella would be traumatized and that she couldn't handle his ruthlessness. All these worries tangled together, and he stormed into the company in a rage.
He thought work would calm him down, but it didn't!
Sebastian needed to vent.
If he didn't, he might really kill someone.
In a moment, the once pristine conference room was in complete disarray.
Joshua opened the door and was a bit surprised by the mess.
"Get out..." Sebastian, furious, looked up and stopped mid-sentence, frowning, "Why are you at the company?"
He thought, 'At this time, shouldn't Joshua be sneaking around like a voyeur, spying on Brittany? Brittany was on a business trip in Dreamopolis. Shouldn't Joshua be in Dreamopolis?'
A few days ago, Sebastian received reports from his subordinates that Joshua and Brittany were indeed in Dreamopolis.
He had been busy these past few days and hadn't paid much attention to Joshua's whereabouts.
He figured Brittany must have returned; otherwise, Joshua wouldn't be back.
But Sebastian frowned and thought, 'Why would Joshua show up?'
Joshua bent down to pick up the documents and threw them on the table.
He then picked up a chair, put his leg on it, and said, "I missed you, so I came back from Aurora Isle. As soon as I got off the plane, I headed straight to the company. What's going on with you?"
"Closed treatment, and they let you out so easily?" Sebastian sneered, extinguishing the cigarette between his fingers.
Joshua was momentarily stunned and glanced at Sebastian.
A few seconds later, he forced a stiff smile, "The treatment went well. The doctor allowed me to go out for a bit."
After saying that, Joshua looked around the messy conference room and changed the subject, "Come on, let's go have a drink."
"Are you out of your mind?" Sebastian frowned, "Do I look so fragile that you had to come to the company?"
'A wife cheating, how could you not be fragile?' Joshua pouted, thinking to himself, but he didn't dare say it out loud.
A knock on the door interrupted them. Joshua stood up, walked over, and opened the door, taking a pack of canned beer from Kaine.
"Come on," Joshua closed the door, put the beer on the table, took off his cumbersome suit, and sat on the conference table, raising an eyebrow, "You drown your sorrows, I'll watch. We've been through tougher times and rarely felt like killing ourselves."
Sebastian aired out the conference room, closed the window, and locked eyes with Joshua for two seconds before pulling off his tie.
Then, he sat in the chair opposite Joshua.
Just like many years ago, when the two of them started their business and took control of the Lawrence Group, exhausted and drinking together without a care.
Back then, the Lawrence Group was in Jarod's control. Sebastian's actions were met with resistance at every turn, and he was exhausted day after day. Instead of drinking wine, he and Joshua got through that time with beer.
Rumor had it that after he took over the Lawrence Group, he effortlessly led the company to the top, a natural-born businessman, a genius in the business world.
