Chapter 260 Why Should She Gain by Association?
Sebastian had been away on a business trip for almost a week, spending all that time with Isabella?
With no one to disturb them, what have they been doing? Could Sebastian have realized his true feelings?
Seeing Lynda's reaction, Samuel’s smile faded. "Is there an issue? Seems like they’re close to me. Just now, I overheard her discussing with someone that she might be pregnant."
The plate slipped from Lynda's trembling hands, shattering on the floor as her eyes were with shock. "Pregnant?!"
Samuel leaned back in his chair lazily and nodded. "If I’m not wrong, that’s what I heard."
"Again, Lynda," Samuel squinted as he assessed her, "What's wrong? Do you know each other?"
Lynda was knocked senseless by the word "pregnant."
When did Isabella get pregnant, and why didn't Sebastian tell her? Was he planning to kick her to the side one day without a word?
Lynda's heart clenched.
No, this was unacceptable! How could Isabella gain status just by getting pregnant?
She couldn't just sit around and wait for her demise. Isabella had already stolen Sebastian's heart; if she bore his child now, what status would Lynda have left?
The child couldn't be kept!
She gripped her palms tightly, her anger surging.
"Again, Lynda, what’s on your mind?" Samuel furrowed his eyebrows.
She never told him about Sebastian.
He was her confidant, a plan B; a retreat she would never really consider.
Thus, she merely replied, "Oh? It's nothing; just had a little slip. Let's call the waiter to clean this up."
Samuel pondered for a moment, then signaled the waiter before continuing to peel shrimp for her, putting them on her plate.
Lynda was distracted throughout the meal and hardly enjoyed it.
The word "child" echoed in her mind repeatedly. Half an hour later, she excused herself by claiming she felt unwell and left Grand Gourmet.
As soon as she walked out, she couldn't wait any longer and hurriedly made a phone call, "You've been staying at Willowbrook Estate the whole time, why didn't you tell me Isabella was pregnant!"
On the other hand, Peter loosely held his phone, talking inattentively with Jarod by his side, "Am I your errand boy now?"
He saw Lynda out of the corner of his eye, falling silent.
Rushing by, Lynda didn’t notice him and walked past without a second glance.
Once she was far away, Peter frowned, "Hey, Jarod, did you hear that?"
"It looks like Ms. Blair ran into your kin at Grand Gourmet. Your brother, after all the trouble, didn't tell her about the pregnancy? What's he planning?"
"Did his plan go awry?" Peter scoffed. "Or did he reach enlightenment and realized his own feelings?"
On the other hand, Jarod spoke in an even tone, "If you don't understand now, it’ll be clear to you soon."
Peter sighed, "I know you're going to take action, but I don't get it— why bother for Sebastian's sake? It's like trying to squeeze blood from a turnip."
Jarod calmly responded, "Didn’t you hear just now? That child— there's a high chance he's in danger. I do care about Sebastian, but I equally care about the child."
Even through the phone, Peter could tell that Jarod didn’t let his emotions resonate with his voice.
Rubbing his nose bridge, Peter said, "Alright, I get it. "It's simply the usual principle; helping Sebastian is helping yourself. If the Lawrence family gets their first grandson, nobody will force you into marriage and kids. Afterward, you can keep on living like a ghost."
Jarod didn't pick up on his comment but instead instructed, "Change your car to one that can't be traced back to its owner. Then, take a detour the old mansion to pick Isabella up. Tamper with it slightly— make sure nobody can track down her location for a short while."
Peter went inside the lively bar while grumbling, "Fine, fine! I'm moving mountains for you— I really must’ve been indebted to you in my past life."
On the other side, Isabella talked a lot with Emily. She wasn’t chatty, but Emily's curiosity was insatiable.
From pregnancy to business trips, she dug deep with a relentless questions.
"I heard from Kaine that Mr. Lawrence is incredibly decisive and just stunning in action. He made the branch office in Y city start playing by the book."
"Moreover, he told me Mr. Lawrence really put that branch’s manager through the wringer! As the saying goes, 'snatch the leader and the group will fall.’ He’s really capable!"
"Oh, and Kaine also told me—"
"Stop, stop, stop!" Isabella interrupted, raising her hand to stop Emily's endless praise.
She couldn't understand how Sebastian enchanted Emily, turning her into such a fanatic.
Perhaps Kaine, his top fan, had filled her head with more than just admiration?
"Oh come on, Isabella, don't be jealous," Emily said, petting Isabella's head as if soothing a pet while nodding. "I'm just proud that he has finally learned how to use his charm."
Isabella kicked Emily's leg, "Keep spouting nonsense, and I won’t be paying the tab."
Emily raised her hands above her head in a mock prayer, "Merciful angels above, I admit my mistake."
Isabella sighed softly, a bitter taste in her mouth. Emily was still in the dark about the whole situation. How could she possibly compete for Sebastian’s affection?
However, she had no intention of telling Emily about it yet.
She could see that Emily really liked someone for once, not wanting to ruin her budding relationship with Kaine over her own issues.
After all, Emily was fiercely loyal— if she knew Sebastian wasn't treating her well, Isabella was sure Emily wouldn't stay with Kaine.
Isabella changed the subject, "How’s your progress with Kaine? You guys are official now, right?"
"What? No way! It hasn't even been that long; you're just teasing me," Emily protested while quickly standing up. "I'm full. Let's get going."
Emily was tomboyish, but she clearly had a softer, shy side. Isabella laughed brightly behind her.
She paid the bill and they left the restaurant.
They weren't heading in the same direction, so Isabella hailed a cab for Emily and watched her leave.
Just as she was about to call a ride for herself, a car pulled up in front of her.
The window rolled down, revealing an unfamiliar face.
This person had a distinct aura; he wasn’t your average Joe.
Isabella thought he might’ve mistaken her for someone else, taking a step back.
The man lazily said, "Miss Wallace, I'm Peter; a friend of Jarod."
Isabella wasn’t familiar with Jarod. Due to her history with Sebastian, what could Peter possibly want with her?
"No worries, I was just running errands for Grandpa and happened to see you. It’s a coincidence the old man wanted someone to pick you up, and since I was on my way, I thought I could give you a lift."
The whole thing sounded a bit fishy to Isabella.
