Chapter 375 I Also Suspect Her

Isabella was about to ask Sebastian if he knew how she got hurt, but the scars on his fingers stopped her. Without thinking, she zeroed in on his hands.

Sebastian's hands were slender and pale, with distinct knuckles. His index, middle, and ring fingers had deep scratches—some still bleeding, others scabbed over. They didn't match his otherwise perfect hands at all.

Isabella bit her lip, glancing at her nails, noticing a faint trace of blood. She had done this.

"Sorry." Isabella frowned, feeling guilty. "That dream was so scary; I must've hurt you. Why didn't you pull your hand away?" She blamed herself, clenching her hands tightly, punishing herself by pinching her palms.

Sebastian noticed her unease right away. He murmured something, then stepped forward, setting down the utensils, and took Isabella's hands in his, gently separating her fingers.

They were close now, and Sebastian's features were clear, his long lashes unable to hide the expression in his eyes.

Isabella asked, "Did you rush back because I said I missed you last night?"

"Jet lag, busy with the company and my stuff, right?"

"Was I seriously hurt? Did the doctor say anything that scared you?"

"You haven't been resting properly, have you?"

It was heartbreaking. Isabella's eyes welled up with tears.

"Say one more thing..." Sebastian raised his eyes but stopped mid-sentence. Isabella looked at him, confused, wanting to say more, but Sebastian gently placed a finger on her lips. Then, she heard his hoarse voice, "...I could not resist kissing you."

"This isn't the time or place for kissing, so be good."

Isabella blushed, overwhelmed by his sweet words.

"Just one more thing." Isabella blinked. "Should we take care of your hand?"

Sebastian handed his hand to Isabella, tilting his chin up towards her.

Understanding his intention, Isabella looked around for some ointment.

Sebastian chuckled, "No."

"Then why did you give me your hand?" Isabella asked, puzzled.

Sebastian said, "Just blow on it." Isabella fell silent.

Sensing her hesitation, Sebastian lazily remarked, "Mrs. Lawrence, don't you care about me?"

"Of course, I do!" Isabella blushed, speaking loudly to hide her embarrassment.

Sebastian chuckled, holding his hand out in front of Isabella. Isabella smiled, bringing Sebastian's hand closer to her lips and gently blowing warm air onto it.

Sebastian watched her, feeling a tingling sensation on the back of his hand with each warm gust, almost like an electric current running through him, which surged through him, causing a warmth in his lower abdomen.

He couldn't help but find it amusing, unsure if asking Isabella to do this was a reward or self-inflicted punishment.

Deciding not to torment himself further, Sebastian withdrew his hand, picked up the bowl of pasta, and fed Isabella a bite.

"What were you about to ask?" Sebastian suddenly spoke. "Before asking about my hand injury, you seemed like you wanted to ask something."

Feeling a bit embarrassed to be fed like a child, Isabella was both sweetly content and bashful, her face flushing red.

Upon hearing Sebastian's question, Isabella regained her composure, and the rosy tint on her face gradually faded.

"What was that?" Sebastian noticed her change in demeanor and suppressed a smile.

As the words were about to escape her lips, Isabella hesitated. She didn't know if Sebastian had looked into the car accident at noon and, if he had, whether he had found anything related to Lynda.

Every time in the past, between her and Lynda, Sebastian had always chosen Lynda. Isabella wasn't sure if she should speak up.

She still harbored a faint worry. If she mentioned Lynda's malicious deeds, would Sebastian believe her?

Isabella's heart sank a little, a hint of bitterness mixing into the sweetness she had felt moments ago.

But then she remembered a month ago when she and Sebastian had opened up to each other, and he had assured her that Lynda was never an obstacle between them.

Steeling herself, Isabella asked, "How is Jackson doing?"

Sebastian held a fork and gestured for Isabella to open her mouth. As she complied, he fed her a bite of pasta. Only then did he respond, "I haven't got all the details yet, but I heard he's fine now."

"That's a relief," Isabella sighed as she swallowed the pasta, feeling a bit better. She began recounting the events of the day, "This afternoon, Jackson drove me to see you. On Serenity Way, a car lost control and came towards us at high speed. Jackson couldn't dodge in time, and the car crashed into a utility pole."

"Yeah." Sebastian nodded. "I know about that. We're checking the brakes on our car and the out-of-control vehicle." His voice gradually turned cold, his gaze sharp and reflecting a chilling light.

"Have you checked the surveillance footage in that area?" Isabella asked.

"We're working on it, but so far, we haven't found anything unusual," Sebastian said.

Isabella bit her lip lightly, her face not looking very good.

"Maybe we won't find anything," Isabella said softly. "When Lynda does something, she definitely hides it well."

Sebastian lowered his head. Upon hearing this, he visibly paused, his wrist subtly trembling, almost causing the pasta in the bowl to spill.

Isabella couldn't figure out why Sebastian was stiff; was he surprised she had pointed out that he had concealed evidence of Lynda's crime? Or perhaps he had never considered that Lynda could do something wrong, and hearing her words had shocked him?

Isabella couldn't tell. But regardless of the reason, she felt uncomfortable in her heart, a dull ache weighing on her.

"I suspect her too." Sebastian resumed his usual demeanor, bringing the pasta to Isabella's mouth. "Keep talking."

—I suspect her, too.

These words echoed in Isabella's mind, leaving her dumbfounded. She raised her head abruptly, her eyes wide with disbelief, her entire face expressing "unbelievable" in bold letters!

'Sebastian suspects Lynda? Lynda! Sebastian's bottom line!' Isabella's mind was filled with questions.

"You suspect Lynda?" Isabella reached out to touch Sebastian's forehead. "You're not feverish."

"So, you really suspect her, don't you?" Isabella smiled brightly, her lips stretched wide, almost reaching behind her ears.
