Chapter 433 No Feelings, Only Gratitude
"What the heck?" William blurted out.
William slammed his cane on the ground. "Has he lost his damn mind? What the hell is he doing?"
Isabella just stood there, not saying a word.
After a few awkward seconds, William let out a heavy sigh. "I knew you two had a fight when you moved out, but how did it get this bad?"
"You are a couple. What kind of beef could be so deep between you?"
He was basically saying Isabella was too stubborn to forgive Sebastian, making him beg for forgiveness with a knife.
Since Isabella married into the Lawrence family, this was the first time William had talked to her with such disappointment.
She felt super uncomfortable and hurt.
But Isabella didn't care much. William had no clue what really went down between her and Sebastian, probably thinking it was just a regular spat.
"I'm sorry," Isabella mumbled, too worried about Sebastian to explain, "I didn't mean to stress you out."
Jarod was the only one in the Lawrence family who knew the real deal.
He couldn't stand seeing Isabella getting blamed, so he calmly explained, "Grandpa, not long ago, Isabella almost died because of Lynda, and Sebastian covered it up for her. When the truth came out, that's when Isabella left. Sebastian's probably doing this hoping Isabella would forgive him. It's not her fault."
Isabella didn't expect Jarod to spill the beans.
Back then, when she asked Jarod to dig into it, didn't he also keep it a secret after finding out the truth?
"Is that so?" William looked at Isabella, shocked. "That idiot, how could he do something so low? He must be out of his mind!"
"No, I think his head's full of crap, poisoned by that witch with some love potion!" William was shaking with anger and, feeling bad about his earlier accusation, softened his tone, "Isabella, I'm really sorry."
William patted Isabella's shoulder, his face red with shame. "I jumped to conclusions. I didn't think that idiot would do something so awful. He really doesn't deserve forgiveness."
"No, you misunderstood. How could I blame you if you didn't know the truth," Isabella forced a bitter smile, "As for the mess between Sebastian and me..."
"Forget it, I agreed to forgive him, so I will. We'll deal with it after he gets out of surgery."
Even though it was tough, Isabella had no intention of dragging up old grudges.
The surgery was taking forever, and her heart felt like it was being fried in hot oil, filled with anxiety and worry.
William was drowning in guilt. He opened his mouth but couldn't say anything.
Of course, he was worried about Sebastian in the operating room, but he genuinely felt that the Lawrence family had wronged Isabella.
William felt especially uncomfortable.
After thinking it over, William finally said, "Isabella, thanks for forgiving him. You and Sebastian need to work things out. As for that nasty Lynda, I'll handle her for you."
Isabella didn't expect William to step up against Lynda.
It caught her off guard, but it made sense.
William had always been good to her.
Sadly, Lynda was a tough nut to crack.
Sebastian would rather hurt himself than deal with her, which showed he owed Lynda big time and had to protect her.
She thought, 'Since that's the case, I shouldn't drag William into this.'
Even though she didn't like it.
"Thanks, William," Isabella said, "But don't worry about our issues. It's already bad enough we made you worry today."
"Isabella, don't refuse," William said firmly, "This is settled. Don't bring it up again. I don't think Sebastian would dare stop me!"
William then shot a cold look at Jarod, "You, get to work. You two, one pretending to be a cripple, the other hogging control of the Lawrence Group, doing whatever you want! I need to balance your power!"
Jarod frowned, ready to argue—
"Grandpa!" A clear female voice called out.
Amber showed up.
She wasn't hiding behind a mask, hat, or sunglasses.
Her eyes were red from crying.
Peter, who had been standing quietly nearby, hid his pain and walked over to comfort her. "Calm down, or you'll disturb the doctors."
Amber nodded, sniffled, and her delicate nose twitched.
She rushed to the operating room, wiped her tears, stood in front of Isabella, and bowed deeply, then said tearfully, "Isabella, I'm sorry, please don't blame Sebastian."
From the car to the elevator, Amber had gotten Peter's message and roughly understood why Sebastian had hurt himself.
"Isabella, Sebastian has his reasons. He really doesn't have feelings for Lynda, just gratitude. My mom made him promise on her deathbed, and he has to keep it."
Amber's words shocked everyone.
Byron was the first to react.
Byron's body shook, and he asked in disbelief, "Amber, your mom? Moore?"
"Yes," Amber nodded at Byron, "Yes, Dad, it's Mom."
Then, Amber looked back into Isabella's eyes, tears streaming down.
She said, "After giving birth to my brother, Mom had heart problems and needed a heart transplant. The donor was Lynda's mother."
Isabella stared blankly at Amber.
She knew about Moore's heart transplant; Sebastian had mentioned it before.
But she didn't expect the donor to be Betty.
William and Byron were also stunned.
Their faces changed, clearly not expecting the donor to be Betty.
"Yes, it was Betty," Amber confirmed, "The donor's info is super confidential. Sebastian took a long time to find out it was Betty."
Amber cautiously looked at Isabella, mustered the courage, grabbed Isabella's hand, and pleaded, "Isabella, Mom made Sebastian promise to repay the favor and take care of the Baker family's descendants. Sebastian really can't hurt Lynda."
