Chapter 178 Conversation

Peter just smiled, didn't say anything, and withdrew his hand.
"Ever since Jarod..." Amber looked at him, "I've seen you less often. Peter, did you come to see Jarod today?"
"Yes."
"My brother is a good person, very stable in mood and temperament. But you're his best friend. If you visited him more often, he'd probably be happier."
"Maybe," Peter replied, "it's precisely that kind of stability that's frightening."
Amber didn't quite understand. "Why?"
"It's nothing," he said. "You don't need to worry about these things. The youngest daughter of the Lawrence family should just be responsible for being happy, that's all."
"Hey," Amber sighed, "everyone says that, but I'm not a fool. I've seen the growing rift between Jarod and Sebastian over the years..."
Peter had intended to leave quickly, but seeing Amber's pitiable tone, he felt reluctant to go.
"All of that is none of your concern. Just continue being yourself."
"Actually, I think Jarod is quite nice to me, and of course, Sebastian is nice too, and my sister-in-law as well... It's nice when the family is happy and harmonious, right?"
"Yes," Peter nodded. "It's good, and it will stay good. Don't overthink it."
"Okay," Amber replied. "You take care of yourself too, and when you have time, come see Jarod more often. And... I want to see you too."
Peter's eyes lit up for a moment, but they lit up like a shooting star; fleeting, extinguishing just as fast as they lit up.
He opened his mouth, and after a long pause, he managed to squeeze out one word, "Okay."
He was about to leave when Amber, stepping ahead of him, grabbed the hem of his shirt, "Peter, Jarod and Sebastian can go back to how they were before, right?"
Amber looked at him expectantly, as if his affirmation was all she needed to trust him unconditionally.
"Yes," Peter said. "They can."
Amber smiled, her eyes curving like crescent moons, "Since you said it, I'm relieved."
Peter dared not look at her any longer, and he shifted his gaze, "Yeah, get some rest and take care of yourself during filming."
"I will, Peter. Goodnight."
"Good night, Amber."
After hearing him say her name, she beamed even more radiantly.
Peter had reached the door, but she was still watching his retreating figure.
Feeling that she was still looking at him, Peter paused as he stepped out the door, then turned back.
Amber was still smiling at him.
And she kept waving, "It's nighttime, so be careful driving and send me a message when you get home."
Peter just nodded slightly, quickening his pace.
Sitting in the car, he didn't rush to start the engine, Amber's smile lingering in his mind.
That little girl had really grown up.
She was already the center of attention back then, and now she was even more beautiful.
Amber's aura was incomparable; having been nurtured by her family's love from a young age, she had become the Lawrence family's treasure with a nobility that outshone countless female stars.
That wasn't something that could be cultivated.
Such a beautiful person...
Peter gripped the steering wheel tightly. What was he thinking?
Amber was unattainable in his mind.
Listening to the sound of a car starting in the garden, Amber knew Peter had left.
She showed a trace of weariness; the magazine cover shoot that was supposed to take half a day had encountered some problems and only wrapped up in the evening.
Rubbing her temples, she went upstairs, crossed the corridor, and headed for her room.
But just then, Jarod's bedroom door opened, and a wheelchair slowly came out.
Amber called out, "Why aren’t you asleep?"
Seeing Amber, Jarod also seemed surprised, but then he smiled indulgently, "Just got home?"
"Yes, it was a late wrap today."
Jarod asked, "So, you must have run into Peter when you came back."
"Yeah, I chatted with Peter before coming upstairs; he just left," Amber said. "Jarod, was there something you needed from Peter?"
In Amber's memory, if Peter was frequently around Jarod, it definitely meant something serious was happening.
She vividly remembered a few instances: one was when the Lawrence Group was nearly acquired, another was when the stock prices plummeted, and then there was the time their sister-in-law passed away, leaving Jarod with a disability...
During that period, Peter was almost constantly busy; he was constantly negotiating and managing things, his eyes red from lack of sleep.
Their sister-in-law's name was a taboo in the Lawrence family.
Especially in front of Jarod, it was absolutely, absolutely not to be mentioned!
"It's nothing," Jarod casually made up a reason, "just two old friends having a drink together."
"Oh, that's good then," Amber felt more at ease, "but still, you should drink less, Jarod. It's not good for your health."
"I know."
Amber nodded, about to continue to her room when she suddenly heard Jarod ask, "You're not getting any younger, have you met... someone you like?"
"Ah? I... I'm busy filming and attending events every day; where do I have time for a relationship?" Amber answered. "Besides, I think I'm still young, no rush. But you, Jarod, I think you should open your heart and really look for someone."
"You... whenever I bring up your lifelong happiness, you turn it around on me," Jarod sighed and shook his head, then went back into his room.
Amber shrugged her shoulders and returned to her own room, closing the door behind her.
Lawrence Group.
For three consecutive days, Sebastian and Isabella got along very harmoniously.
Everyone in the company who saw them secretly thought that they must have reconciled.
Although nobody knew what disagreement Mr. Lawrence and his wife had, the current situation was definitely a good sign for them.
In fact, not just outsiders, even Isabella herself found Sebastian strange.
He was incredibly nice to her, to an incomparable degree. He listened to whatever she said and prioritized her in everything, crafting the image of a perfect husband.
Isabella, holding a folder, symbolically knocked on the office door before entering.
She looked up to see Sebastian taking his phone away from his ear, not forgetting to press the end call button.
His expression seemed slightly panicked, and his movements were somewhat rushed.
Isabella pretended not to notice.
She knew he occasionally received calls from Lynda, but he would never answer them in front of her; he wouldn’t let her see anything about Linda.
It was as if Lynda had disappeared.
