Chapter 473 Promised to Get Rid of It After the Business Trip

Isabella shot back a quick thank you and asked: [Hey, can you send me a pic of your aunt? Maybe I'll recognize her. If not, I can ask around.]

The reply came almost instantly: [I've got a few new leads and some places to check out. I should be able to find her this time. You handle your stuff first. If I still can't find her, I'll definitely need your help.]

Isabella replied: [Good luck,] and ended the chat. She wasn't in the mood for more talking.

Usually, Samuel would just say thanks and leave it at that.

But then Isabella saw his message: [Honestly, I hope I'm not that lucky. Finding someone is just something I have to do.]

Isabella thought, 'Not hoping to find her?'

She was taken aback. Then, Samuel sent two more messages.

[Finding my aunt means finding her kids. If it's a boy, he'll be the next heir of the Carter family. If it's a girl, she'll marry the next heir. To become the next heir, I'd have to marry a stranger.]

[Not only would this wife be a stranger, but she might also need me as a walking blood bank. My aunt has a rare blood type, and her kids might have it too. That's why I was chosen to join the Carter family when I was a kid.]

Isabella read through the messages, feeling a wave of sadness.

She didn't know how to respond. These secrets weren't meant for her.

As she was thinking about what to say, Samuel sent another message.

[It sounds sad, but it's not so bad. I once thought about giving up the Carter family for Lynda, but I misjudged her. Still, I'd give up wealth and power for someone I love. But now, it seems I need the status the Carter family provides.]

Isabella was stunned, feeling like Samuel's words had a deeper meaning.

She thought, 'If he could give up the Carter family for love, why does he need it now? Could it be that he has fallen for someone who needs the Carter family's protection?'

Isabella couldn't help but overthink Samuel's words...

'What did Samuel mean? Was he trying to tell me something?'

A possibility flashed through her mind, and she quickly shook her head to dispel the strange thought.

'No way!! Samuel must be drunk! He has to be drunk!'

The next second, the screen showed that the other party had retracted several messages, and the previous messages were gone.

Samuel sent a voice message, sounding drunk, "Sorry, I was drunk." Isabella thought, 'Drunk, so he was talking nonsense.'

She sighed in relief and replied after a while, "It's okay, I was busy and didn't see it. Don't worry about it."

There was no further response from the other side.

Isabella pursed her lips, about to think things over when her phone rang.

Seeing the name on the screen, Isabella immediately answered, "Brittany?"

"You finally answered," Brittany sighed, worriedly asking, "I've been trying to reach you multiple times with no response. Are you okay, Isabella?"

With servants moving things into the house, Isabella couldn't say much. She looked at the clouds outside the window and smiled, "I'm fine, don't worry. Are you back from your trip?"

"Yeah," Brittany paused, her voice cool and clear.

It made Isabella feel like Brittany was fragile and on the verge of breaking.

"Since you're back," Isabella bit her lip, "just get some rest."

"Isabella, no more excuses. We agreed to handle this after my trip. We can't delay any longer," Brittany said seriously. "It's time."

Isabella couldn't detect any emotion in Brittany's tone; it was purely business-like.

It felt like Brittany was talking about a mundane task, like grocery shopping.

But it wasn't like that.

Isabella knew Brittany well. She was used to being independent, shaping herself into a cold, strong woman, burying all her pain inside.

"I'll go with you. Set a time," Isabella offered, knowing all she could do was be there for her.

"Can you get out?"

Isabella was stunned, then smiled helplessly, "You know me too well. But yes, I can get out."

She could guess what Brittany wanted to say, probably not wanting to trouble her.

Leaving Brittany to go through an abortion alone, Isabella couldn't be at ease.

She couldn't think of anyone else who could accompany Brittany.

Besides her, Brittany probably hadn't told anyone about the pregnancy.

Isabella quickly said, "No one can hold me back, no one can hurt me. Don't worry. I promised to be with you, so don't refuse me."

Brittany didn't relent.

At that moment, Isabella saw a car slowly stop downstairs, and a few seconds later, Lynda got out of the passenger seat.

She was wearing a plain white turtleneck sweater and simple jeans, looking very pure, like a college student.

Her face was even more pitiful than before, with a hint of timidity, the type that most aroused a man's protective instincts.

Lynda came.

Isabella felt suffocated, her chest tightening as if being squeezed, making it hard to breathe.

It was even more painful than she had imagined.

Isabella turned around, facing away from the window, calming herself down and pretending nothing had happened.

She deliberately threatened Brittany, "I don't care. If you go to the hospital alone, I'll take it as you don't care about me as a friend."

With Isabella's threat, Brittany had no choice but to agree, "Okay, but you have to take care of yourself first."

"Got it. It's a workday, so get back to work. I won't bother you. Let me know when you set a time."

Brittany agreed, "Okay."

They didn't talk for long before ending the call.

Isabella mainly worried that Brittany would sense her distress, but after hanging up, she felt a bit regretful.

With no one to talk to, the sounds of Lynda outside were clearly audible.

"Where's Sebastian? I want to see Sebastian. Am I staying upstairs? Is Sebastian upstairs too?"

Lynda spoke softly, "I'm sorry, Sebastian must be very busy. I didn't mean to disturb his work. I'm scared. I'm just scared. I woke up, and everything changed. I have no family, only Sebastian."

Isabella smiled, put on her headphones, and turned the music up to the highest volume she could tolerate.

Believing that Lynda had gone mad and lost part of her memory was less likely than Lynda turning over a new leaf.
