Chapter 140 Can't Stand Your Double Standards

"Do you want me to experience being knocked out and abducted in a sack all over again?" Isabella asked.

Sebastian threw the book aside and stood up.

"Blame me? Curse me? Hate me?"

"No," she slightly raised her chin, "and not daring to either."

"I see that you do!" he responded.

"I just hope that you don't excessively interfere with my personal life," Isabella said.

"I am your wife in name, and I will fulfill our agreement. But that doesn't mean you can control every aspect of my freedom."

Sebastian almost laughed as if hearing a joke, his lips curling up.

"No interference? Personal life? And you talk to me about freedom?"

"It's a fair exchange. I will fulfill my duties, won't breach the contract since I have taken your money and benefits. I do have a sense of commitment."

"What sense of commitment?"

Isabella maintained eye contact with him.

She knew very well that Sebastian was furious now, especially about her secret meeting with Marcus. She should appease him and coax him, that would be the best approach.

But she just couldn't.

Why should she accommodate Sebastian?

She had taken the money and completed the task!

She had her dignity too!

Sebastian narrowed his eyes dangerously. "What if, Isabella, I insist on controlling?"
"Why?" Isabella asked. "I haven't interfered in your personal life."

He chuckled.

"Why? Do you know, Isabella, it's been a very long time... since anyone said these three words to me."

A chill ran down Isabella's back, and a thin layer of cold sweat oozed out.

She wasn't afraid of a furious Sebastian or a Sebastian with an angry face, but a Sebastian who suddenly smiled...

That was the most terrifying!

Such a Sebastian exuded an overwhelming aura, making Isabella unconsciously want to retreat.

She took a step back.

But before she could take the second step, Sebastian firmly grasped her chin.

"No 'why'! Isabella, you can only do what I tell you to do, you cannot defy me!"

"You... you tyrant!"

Sebastian's grip tightened even more.

"If you insist on asking 'why', I can answer you. Isabella, because you are mine, because the Wallace family relies on me, because everything you have now was given by me!"

Her chin felt like it was about to dislocate.

Isabella forcefully endured the pain and didn't cry out.

She bit her lip.

"You have no right to control me!"

“Do you have to be so angry over this? I just met Marcus, that's all! It's not like I cheated on you or anything!"

Sebastian's angry shout almost shook the ceiling "You would dare to cheat on me?"

He was truly infuriated by her!

"I was just making a comparison!" Isabella replied.

"Besides, I didn't actively go see him. He confronted me and insisted on meeting me. Why are you so angry with me? If you have the guts, then..."

Before she could finish her sentence, she realized something was wrong and stopped talking.

She was probably too angry to think straight, and she almost let something inappropriate slip out.

She blamed the Cooper family for betraying her, for turning their backs on her after she had helped them. But Marcus was innocent.

She couldn't let Sebastian go after the Cooper family; it was Marcus's future as well.

But... it seemed too late now.

Sebastian sneered, "If I have the guts, I should go find Marcus, right? Do you think I won't or that I am afraid?"

"No, I didn't finish my sentence!"

Isabella quickly tried to fix it.

"I... what I meant to say is, if you have the guts, don't go see Lynda either!"

It turns out she managed to salvage the situation.

But in doing so, she also brought the original argument into another bigger conflict.

Isabella only hated herself for speaking too soon.

Why did she have to argue with Sebastian? In the end, the person who got hurt the most deeply was herself.

She was the one feeling miserable, while Sebastian acted as if nothing was wrong.

He could do whatever he wanted.

But what Isabella didn't know was that every argument also angered Sebastian to no end!

"Why did you bring up Marcus and now involve Lynda?" he asked, his voice lowering.

"Why can't I talk about it? Oh, I can talk about my ex-boyfriend, question and get angry about it, but when you're with Lynda, all lovey-dovey, I can't have an opinion?"
Sebastian suddenly lowered his voice. "You care a lot about me and Lynda, don't you?"

"No, I don't," Isabella immediately denied. "I just don't like your double standards."

"If you really care..."

Without waiting for Sebastian to finish, she interrupted him.

"I said I don't care. You can do whatever you want with her, and I won't interfere. Similarly, don't meddle with what I do."

Sebastian's expression visibly darkened.

One day, he will truly be driven to death by Isabella's anger!

Just a moment ago, he thought she was jealous, and a sense of joy inexplicably emerged in his heart. But before he could enjoy it for more than a few seconds, she swept it away.

After saying so much, Isabella, did you really have to meet Marcus? Are you still attached to him?

"Why are you so fixated on me and Marcus?" she asked.

"He's my ex-boyfriend, ex-fiancée, but we broke up, and he is just a-"

"I also married you, despite him having a new fiancée. Do I really have the audacity to cheat on you?" Isabella slowly began to realize Sebastian's methods.

Not to mention him, even ordinary men would be enraged if their partners were unfaithful.

If she truly had the courage to speak her mind, Sebastian would probably grab her by the neck and make her suffer, losing everything.

But then again...why would she even consider being with another man?

The man Isabella loves, was someone that she could never have.

She lifted her gaze and met his eyes.

"Was what I said clear enough?"

"One last question."

Sebastian eased his grip, but his fingertips still lingered on her cheek.

"Do you still love him?"

Isabella fell silent.

There are some lies she is unwilling to tell.

Regardless of whether she answers with love or not, Sebastian would continue to inquire.

"Taking this long to think, it seems...you still love him," Sebastian's gaze turned completely cold. "I understand now."

"I haven't answered yet!"

"No need." He abruptly pulled his hand back.

"Isabella, perhaps you don't know what a man's weakness is."

Her heart raced. "What are you planning to do?"

"How could I allow my wife to have feelings for another man? Huh?"

Sebastian said, his tone carrying a hint of indifference.

"Then there's only one solution..."

After speaking, he didn't even glance at her and walked away.
