Chapter 422 Her Sharp Words
Isabella suddenly had a lightbulb moment and blurted out, "Twins! Did I forget to tell you, Grandma?"
She plopped down on the stool, straightened up, put her hands on her hips, and proudly stuck out her little belly. "Grandma, I'm awesome."
Janet was totally floored and took a sec to process. "Twins?"
"Yep!"
"Good," Janet kept nodding like a bobblehead. "That's fantastic."
Janet was over the moon.
Isabella's eyes were so warm they could melt ice.
Wherever Janet was, that was home for her. Only by Janet's side could she chill out and forget all the bad stuff.
Isabella got up and tucked Janet in. "So, Grandma, you gotta take care of yourself, don't stress, you need to help me with the two munchkins."
Isabella was acting all cutesy, like always around Janet.
"I know, you little rascal." Janet waved her off, "Go on, get home and rest up."
Isabella beamed. "Okay."
She grabbed a bunch of the sweets Janet made from the caregiver and reluctantly left the room.
She didn't leave right away but leaned against the back door, sneaking peeks at Janet.
Janet asked the caregiver to find a small box, took out a tiny gold lock and a small bracelet, placed them in her palm, intertwined her fingers, clasped her hands together, closed her eyes, and softly murmured something to the sky.
Whatever it was, it had to be a sweet blessing and hope.
Janet was just adorable!
Isabella was in an insanely good mood.
The two little babies weren't even born yet, and Janet was already so stoked. When they were born, playing around her knees, Janet would be over the moon.
Isabella was even more determined to protect the babies.
Lynda had to go to prison and pay for what she did.
Otherwise, there'd never be peace around her.
After leaving the nursing home, Isabella set up a new account and added Samuel on Facebook.
Samuel didn't accept right away, but Isabella wasn't sweating it.
She put away her phone, stood under the signpost, stroked her belly, and said with a smile, "Babies, I will protect you well."
With this resolve, Isabella felt way better than before, trying to hold onto this faint joy.
A sleek black luxury car parked smoothly by the street.
Sebastian sat in the driver's seat, watching Isabella's subtle expressions without blinking.
She smiled? Whose message made her smile? Janet's?
Sebastian's fingers curled, his knuckles tapping on the steering wheel. He thought, 'Maybe I can invite Janet to stay at Willowbrook Estate for a bit.'
He wanted Isabella to always keep smiling. Her smile was more dazzling and beautiful than the sunrise, able to chase away every bit of darkness in his heart and bring him warmth.
Up ahead, Isabella waited for the bus and then hopped on.
Sebastian watched her get on the bus, reluctantly pulling his gaze away, cautiously following behind the bus.
Isabella had no clue Sebastian was tailing her. Samuel added her, and she chatted with him briefly.
Soon, the bus pulled up at the hotel entrance. She grabbed the bag of sweets Janet had given her, headed back to her room, washed her hands, and made a beeline for the dining room.
When Brittany returned, a refreshing fragrance lingered in the air.
"Brittany, you're back! My grandma hooked us up with a ton of yummy treats. You get settled, and we'll chow down together later," Isabella called out from the dining room, her eyes twinkling with a smile.
After hanging out in the dining room for over an hour, Isabella's long lashes had little droplets from the steam, and her cheeks were all rosy from the heat.
She looked super lively and full of energy.
Brittany was stoked to see her transformation, a faint smile creeping onto her lips. "Sure thing."
She didn't pry. Whatever the reason, as long as Isabella was happy, it was all good. If she kept bottling stuff up, her body wouldn't handle it.
After living together for three days, seeing Isabella slowly get back to normal, chatting with friends, going out for walks, and shopping for baby clothes, Brittany's heart finally started to chill.
She could now prep for her business trip without stressing.
Two days ago, Brittany got a business trip assignment.
Worried about Isabella, she hadn't agreed to it. Now, she felt she could go.
On the fourth morning, Brittany got up an hour early to whip up breakfast.
Hearing footsteps from Isabella's room, she turned her head, just about to tell Isabella about the trip, when she saw an unexpected person coming out of Isabella's room.
Brittany clammed up, understanding dawning on her.
"Mr. Lawrence, do you think I'm a nuisance, so you set me up for this business trip?" Even though he was the boss, Brittany wasn't scared at all.
She could always quit and go back to work at the company run by the Everly family, cutting ties with Joshua for good.
She had nothing to fear.
Meeting Brittany, Sebastian was cool as a cucumber. He didn't dodge it, calmly saying, "Ms. Everly, you're very perceptive."
"Yeah," Brittany smirked coldly, her words sharp. "But you lack that quality."
"If it weren't for him, what you just said would be enough for me to destroy your entire family." Sebastian looked at her lightly, his tone calm. Though it was a threat, it didn't sound like one, "Pay more attention to your surroundings, don't get caught up in other people's business. You're smart, you can dig deeper into some obvious flaws."
She thought, 'Him? Who's he talking about?'
Brittany frowned, mulling over Sebastian's words. It felt like she was onto something, but it was slippery, leaving just an odd ache in her chest.
Clenching her fists, Brittany squashed the weird emotions, her smile turning sarcastic. "Since Mr. Lawrence kindly reminded me, I'll remind you."
"Don't get too cocky," she said, "No one waits around forever. Even the deepest feelings can't take being stomped on. Feelings need to be mutual. Isabella gives you 100%, and you give her half, then turn around and step on her. Got no conscience?"
Sebastian frowned, his face darkening.
"Don't say you gave your all. That lie won't fool anyone; no one will buy it." Brittany spoke coldly before Sebastian could, "Women see things on the surface, Mr. Lawrence. Isabella can't see you sneaking in every night. She only sees your lies and cover-ups. And your favoritism towards Miss Baker.
"Mr. Lawrence, Isabella is way better now than three days ago, but that doesn't mean she's out of the woods. If you really love her, deal with the culprit. Even the deepest and most steadfast feelings can get worn out one day."
