Chapter 483 The End
"Samuel spilled the beans to Isabella about her grandma, and it ended up killing her. Now Samuel's in a coma at the hospital," Nathan said, ice-cold and emotionless. "You owe us a life, Mr. Lawrence. Face the facts. If you have any conscience left, let Isabella rest in peace."
With that, Nathan turned and walked away.
Sebastian's hope crumbled, and his heart shattered.
People around him were talking, but he couldn't hear a thing.
The rain started pouring, and soon, it was just Sebastian standing alone by the tombstone.
Barely holding himself up, Sebastian touched Isabella's photo on the tombstone and broke down, crying out in agony.
"Your grandma would've woken up in a year. It's my fault. I shouldn't have kept it from you and let others fill your head with nonsense. Isabella, please wake up, okay? I was wrong. I know I was wrong. From now on, I won't hide anything from you. Please, don't scare me anymore."
No one could answer Sebastian.
A bolt of lightning lit up the sky, followed by thunder and a heavy downpour. Sebastian stayed in the cemetery the whole time. Jarod came, Amber came, but it didn't matter. He seemed like a lifeless shell.
For three days straight, Sebastian stayed by the tombstone without a sip of water.
Eventually, he collapsed from exhaustion.
No one expected that after falling into a coma, Sebastian wouldn't wake up for a long time. Even the best medical team couldn't help him.
Sebastian slept for a week, and what finally woke him was the sharp cry of a baby, Isabella's only child.
Soft and wrinkled, those eyes were filled with tears, pure and clear, just like Isabella's.
Sebastian's throat tightened as he looked, and he closed his eyes, tears slipping down his face.
"Look, at least you still have the child," Jarod said, holding the baby in front of him. "Your family needs you. Face reality and pull yourself together."
Jarod's face was pale. The whole ordeal with Isabella and Sebastian brought back memories of his time with Joyce. All the old pain came rushing back, making years of therapy seem pointless.
Now, Sebastian had to go through the same pain.
He never thought all four men of the Lawrence family would have to endure the agony of losing their loved ones forever.
How tragic.
Sebastian's eyes moved under his closed lids, and his Adam's apple bobbed. He said, "You believe Joyce isn't dead, so why should I accept reality?"
"Before boarding the plane in Solterra, I got news that the familiar figure you saw was indeed Joyce. It was her sister who died back then." Sebastian opened his eyes, stubbornly saying, "I'll wait for my Isabella to come back too. She's not dead. She's not dead!"
Jarod couldn't hear what Sebastian was saying, having long lost his composure.
In Silvercrest, a private jet slowly landed on the rooftop of a luxurious villa. Nathan was helped off the plane.
Following him were Samuel and a frail, weak Isabella holding a child.
Isabella's long hair covered her face, making it hard to see her features. When the wind blew, it revealed her beautiful face.
It was indeed Isabella.
Samuel actually knew that Janet wasn't dead, but he lied to deliberately provoke Isabella, aiming to get her to the hospital and fake her death. Although Isabella was indeed nearly driven to death by the shock, fortunately, it was a false alarm, and both mother and child were safe.
The fake death was a big deal, and Samuel couldn't have done it alone. So, during the month Sebastian was away, he had already told Nathan about Isabella's background. With Nathan's help, they successfully brought Isabella and one of the twins back to the Carter family, severing all ties with Maple Valley. From then on, she could live with a new identity.
Moreover, the most crucial part was that Isabella had lost all her past memories, like a blank slate.
Samuel smiled and reached out to take the baby from Isabella's arms. "Let me."
Isabella's eyes were empty and confused. She frowned and instinctively stepped back. "I've told you many times, you are not my husband, not the child's father. Please respect yourself."
The smile on Samuel's face gradually faded, and his eyes showed bitterness. However, thinking that he had a lifetime to take care of Isabella and win her love, he smiled again.
Unexpectedly, Isabella remained cold to him for two years, even colder than before, treating him like a stranger.
She was indifferent to everyone except the baby.
Isabella's most common activity was sitting by the window with the child, sitting there all day. Her beautiful eyes were empty, and her aura was filled with sorrow.
The servants in the villa all knew that Isabella, the only one related to Nathan of the Carter family by blood, suffered from insomnia every night and would wake up from nightmares.
After waking up, she would hold her head and stare blankly in pain.
She was searching for a memory, looking for a vague person, but she couldn't find it.
Whenever Sebastian's image began to clear, her head would hurt terribly, as if her body had a defense mechanism that wouldn't allow her to remember Sebastian, as if remembering would be more painful than now.
"Mom!" In the silent room, Tom's clean voice pulled Isabella back to reality.
Isabella walked over, picked Tom up, and smiled. "I'm here, baby."
Two-year-old Tom was particularly mischievous and clung to Isabella every day to play games.
As usual, Isabella was accompanying Tom when she suddenly heard a commotion downstairs.
She held Tom and stood behind the curtain, gently pulling it aside. She saw Sebastian grabbing Samuel by the collar and punching him in the face.
Isabella was slightly stunned. She adjusted her angle and finally saw Sebastian's face clearly. He was very handsome, the most handsome person she had ever seen. Just one look at his face filled her empty soul in an instant. What surprised Isabella even more was how much Sebastian looked like Tom.
No, it should be said that Tom looked like Sebastian.
Isabella pondered, 'Who is this man exactly?'
Just as Isabella was about to turn around, she heard the commotion outside.
"Lynda would have left Maple Valley quietly, but you sent her a text before she left, forcing her into a corner and provoking Mrs. Wallace, didn't you!
"You've been watching my every move, always knowing Mrs. Wallace wasn't dead and was receiving treatment, yet you deliberately told Isabella that she was dead. Why did you do that? Isabella is alive, isn't she?!
"I indirectly hurt Mrs. Wallace, but aren't you also a murderer? What right do you have to take her away!"
Isabella felt like she was hearing the sound of her memories returning. Her head started to hurt, so much that she couldn't breathe. A flood of memories rushed into her mind, and she couldn't process them all at once.
She heard Sebastian's stern command from downstairs, "Search!"
Instinctively, Isabella hid in the wardrobe, gently patting Tom. "Be good, baby. Stay quiet. I'm here. Don't cry, be good."
Tom blinked his bright eyes and obediently nestled into Isabella's embrace.
Isabella's heart skipped a beat as a flood of memories continued to pour into her mind.
She remembered everything from the past. Connecting it with what she had just heard, she confirmed that Janet was healthy and that she had been deceived by Samuel.
But even so, she didn't dare to face Sebastian. Receiving so many memories at once left her confused and anxious.
She didn't know how much time had passed when someone finally searched Isabella's room and came to the wardrobe.
Through the gap in the wardrobe, she saw Sebastian's face. Their eyes seemed to meet through the narrow slit.
Isabella's heart raced.
Just when she thought Sebastian was about to open the wardrobe door, she heard him say, "I promised I wouldn't lie to you again, baby. I see you. You're really not dead. That's enough. I would take you home immediately before, but not now. If you don't want to see me or come with me, I won't force you. As long as you are happy."
Sebastian's voice was incredibly sexy, just as it had always been.
Isabella listened, somewhat entranced, her eyes stinging with tears. She thought, 'Is this still the domineering and stubborn Sebastian I once knew?'
Then Sebastian left.
Isabella gently opened the wardrobe door and saw his extremely lonely and desolate figure.
She stepped out of the wardrobe, took a few steps forward, but then stopped. She turned and stood by the window, watching Sebastian leave. His back was so lonely, as if he had been abandoned by the whole world.
What had Sebastian gone through these past two years? What had really happened back then? She didn't know, but she had to find out. She needed to understand what Samuel had done!
Another year passing, and spring arriving, the ice and snow melted. A plane from Silvercrest to Maple Valley soared into the sky.
Isabella looked at the blue sky, holding Tom's hand with one hand and scrolling through her tablet with the other.
Three years, 1,095 days, 1,095 emails—she read them one by one.
She had cracked Sebastian's email password a week ago. In his inbox, there were 1,095 unsent drafts, all filled with his love for Isabella.
It was as if she had experienced Sebastian's past three years, watching his suffering, his regret, his torment of Lynda, his recordings of Nick's daily life, and his documentation of Janet's recovery. Her chest felt hot and painful.
It was enough.
Sebastian had endured the pain of separation and loss for two years, and the pain of abandonment for the past year, enough to make up for the past wounds.
So, she came back.
At Maple Valley Airport, Isabella stepped onto this land again, her smile bright and her eyes shining.
She dragged her luggage, holding Tom's hand, and walked out of the airport step by step.
As soon as she stepped outside, she heard Tom shout, "Mom, look, is that Dad?"
Isabella followed Tom's hand and saw a tall figure and a small one standing in front of her.
She was stunned.
It was the first time she saw Sebastian cry.
Isabella's tears also began to fall.
"Dad, my name is Tom. I'm your little baby." Tom was cheerful, greeting Sebastian and waving to Nick. "I'm your little brother. We used to meet secretly on video calls. Look at me, aren't I cuter offline?"
For a year, Isabella had reconnected with everything in Maple Valley. Now, Joshua's condition had stabilized, and he and Brittany had a daughter. Emily and Kaine's relationship was going well. Jarod had finally found Joyce, and even Amber was with Peter.
Naturally, Isabella had also reconnected with Nick.
Nick, unlike Tom, didn't smile much, just like Sebastian. But his eyes sparkled with happiness. He put his hand in his pocket and coolly said, "Mom, little brother, welcome home."
Isabella's heart felt as if it had been filled. She ruffled Tom's and Nick's hair and looked at Sebastian, saying seriously, "I'm back, to love you like I used to."
All of Sebastian's composure disappeared. He stretched out his long arms and kissed Isabella fiercely.
Then, he knelt down and took out two rings.
Sebastian uttered slowly, "We designed these together. Three years ago, when I got them, I knew they would be on your hand. Baby, will you marry me? Let's start over."
Sebastian looked at Isabella with burning eyes, his hands trembling with nervousness.
"Mom, say yes to Dad! I want to go home," Tom's soft voice urged.
"Mom, let's go home, okay?" Nick's voice was a bit cold but equally filled with pleading.
Isabella looked at the three similar faces in front of her, broke into a smile through her tears, and extended her hand, playfully saying to Sebastian, "Hurry up, what are you hesitating for? Otherwise, I'll take the two babies and leave."
In spring, the ice and snow melted and life renewed, what a good season.(End)
