Chapter 157 The Possible Stepmother
"Who... are you?" Isabella asked, "Is this the wrong place?"
"Are you Mrs. Isabella Lawrence?"
"Yes, that's me," she said, "But I haven't ordered anything."
"The address and recipient's name are correct."
Before Isabella could say more, Kaine rushed over, "Madam, these are your things."
"But I didn't buy anything."
"Mr. Lawrence bought them for you."
Isabella was even more confused, "I didn't ask him to buy anything for me! What's inside?"
"Snacks," Kaine answered, "Two big boxes, I think they will last you a month. It's not good to have too much, they might expire if kept for too long."
As he spoke, he gestured to the delivery guy and had the boxes placed in the office.
While busy, Kaine didn't forget to say, "Madam, didn't you go to the convenience store this morning to buy snacks? So, Mr. Lawrence specifically had these delivered. Look, Mr. Lawrence cares a lot about you, you know."
"..."
She chuckled and just wanted to leave quickly.
"If you like to eat them, just let me know..."
"Yeah, okay, thanks. Just leave them there," Isabella said, "No worries, I'll handle it."
"Not thanks to me, thanks to Mr. Lawrence."
"Ah, yes, thanks to Sebastian. I am very grateful to him, his whole family, thank you..."
Kaine laughed, "Mr. Lawrence will be happy to see how much you love them."
"Yes, yes, I really love them..."
Isabella replied perfunctorily, finally persuading Kaine and the delivery guy to leave.
She glanced at the snacks piled up in the corner and sighed.
What the hell, Sebastian bought snacks for her? What kind of care is this?
She didn't really like eating snacks in the first place.
Isabella walked out of the office and hurriedly made her way to the restroom.
There's a saying, "The guilty flee when no one pursues."
Although it was a normal thing, Isabella was extremely nervous, feeling like someone was watching her, seeing through all her thoughts.
In the restroom, she locked the door, sat on the toilet, and patted her chest, finally breathing a sigh of relief.
After taking several deep breaths repeatedly, Isabella took out the pregnancy test kit hidden in her pocket.
She bought two, testing twice to ensure there were no mistakes.
Only after confirming this step, she would tell Sebastian, and then go to the hospital for further examination.
These few minutes felt incredibly long for Isabella.
She stared at the red lines on the pregnancy test kit, not daring to blink her eyes, afraid of missing something.
Slowly, another red line began to appear, but the color was very faint.
Isabella stared at it blankly for a few seconds, then picked up the other pregnancy test kit. Similarly, there were two red lines...
She was pregnant!
Isabella held the pregnancy test, her fingertips chilled, and her heart growing cold as well.
She couldn't quite express what she was feeling right now, but... it was bewildering, helpless.
The child that Sebastian wanted might be on its way.
Though a pregnancy test wasn't a hundred percent accurate, it was close enough. It shouldn't be wrong.
Outside, footsteps approached.
Isabella jumped, quickly wrapping the two pregnancy test strips in layers of tissue and tightly sealing them before throwing them into the trash can.
After ensuring that nothing would be revealed, Isabella stood up and left the restroom.
She stood in front of the sink, looking at herself in the mirror.
Isabella's menstrual cycle was always very regular. When it didn't arrive on time, she paid attention. She then recalled the unexplained increase in appetite recently and the appearance of morning sickness in the past two days...
Now, the pregnancy test confirmed her thoughts.
Water streamed, and Isabella became absentminded. She wondered how to tell Sebastian, and what to say.
The arrival of the child was expected from the beginning.
For some reason, however, she wished to keep it a secret.
Her hands wrinkled as the water washed over them, and only then did Isabella remember to turn off the faucet. Coincidentally, her phone rang at that moment.
Isabella hastily dried her hands, took out her phone, and saw an unfamiliar number.
"Hello, who’s this?" she answered.
"Isabella," a familiar female voice spoke, "Let's meet."
She looked at herself in the mirror and uttered a name, "Lynda."
"It's me. Since I came back to the country, we haven't had a chance to meet alone. Do you want to chat?" Lynda asked.
Isabella quickly rejected, "I'm working, I have no time to meet."
"Are you afraid to see me?" Lynda chuckled.
"Yesterday, when you were drunk, Sebastian received a call and left me behind to look for you. I didn't expect... you're quite something."
"I just don't want to see you, it’s a waste of my time."
"I rescued Bob from your hands, causing you to lose face. Don't you have anything to say to me?" Lynda continued.
"I really don't. If you didn't mention it, I would've forgotten about it," Isabella replied.
"You're not a good-natured person." Lynda said, "Well, it's a good thing because I'm not an easily swayed person either. Let's talk privately, and be honest with each other."
"I said I don't want to see you; don't you understand the English language?"
"But I want to see you. I also want to tell you... a secret." Lynda retorted.
"I'm not interested. Your tricks and schemes, they're all quite boring. Lynda, in front of Sebastian, keep up your act of being gentle, pitiful, and innocent. It's better if you continue to play that role." Isabella retorted.
"Fine then, since you're like this, I won't hide the secret from you anymore," Lynda laughed, "Actually, it's not much. It's just about how I should take care of the child you give birth to in the future."
Isabella tightly clenched her phone.
The custody of her child would definitely end up in the hands of Sebastian.
She had the address Lynda had sent; her heart couldn't help but beat a little faster. She had decided to meet Lynda first because, after all, Lynda was the most likely candidate to become the child's stepmother.
"Sorry to interrupt," Lynda was exceptionally polite. "I hope I'm not disturbing you."
"Just a moment," Isabella responded. "Where are you?" she asked.
"I'm on my way now."
"Alright then," Isabella put away her phone and looked at the address Lynda had sent. She bit her lip nervously.
Lynda couldn't hold herself back any longer and decided to meet Isabella first.
It was because...last night, Sebastian was supposed to stay with her, but instead, he left because Isabella went to the bar. Lynda realized something was off.
To be honest, Isabella was also surprised. Sebastian not only left Lynda behind and went to the bar, but he also brought her home and stayed by her side even when she was "drunk" and saying all those things to her.
Isabella could still vividly remember Sebastian's expression at that time.
However, since she woke up in the morning, he had returned to his usual self, deep and cold.
At the coffee shop, Lynda sat by the window, wearing a white dress. As soon as Isabella saw her, she couldn't help but think... she looked like a blooming white lotus flower.
