Chapter 286 Meeting Her and Having You
Sebastian discovered that Joshua had stomach cancer. He became aware of Joshua's condition and investigated it further.
Stomach cancer...in the advanced stage.
From time to time, Sebastian regretted not paying more attention to Joshua's health. Perhaps Joshua wouldn't have reached this point if he had.
If Joshua hadn't joined Lawrence Group, hadn't become his right-hand man, and did not face so much pressure and social obligations, maybe he wouldn't have ended up like this.
But there's no remedy for regret.
The door to the operating room opened with a sound, and Sebastian turned around.
"Mr. Lawrence," the doctor came out, wearing a solemn expression.
Sebastian clenched his thin lips and asked, "Tell me."
"Mr. Sinclair's condition has worsened," the doctor said.
Silence filled the hallway.
Sebastian absorbed and processed the doctor's words, his face becoming serious. He grabbed the doctor's collar, lowering his voice.
"The treatment plan for Joshua was developed by your team. You told me it had a 90% chance of suppressing the cancer! And now you're telling me his condition has worsened?" he said, furiously.
"Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Sinclair...," the doctor hesitated and finally continued, "he...he didn't follow your treatment plan. He refused chemotherapy."
Sebastian weakly released his grip on the doctor, letting his hands hang by his side. "What?" he said in disbelief.
The doctor started to explain, "Mr. Sinclair's illness has a certain genetic component. He has experienced the death of a loved one before, so he's quite familiar with the situation. He doesn't have much confidence in himself.
"Now, the likelihood of him waiting for death is high. With the burden of great mental stress and concerns for loved ones, it's fortunate that it hasn't reached the terminal stage yet.
"Mr. Lawrence, Mr. Sinclair's condition can't be delayed any longer. He can't exert himself; he can't be impatient, he can't let anger consume him like today, and he can't rely on painkillers all the time.
"Otherwise, sooner or later, death will be the only outcome."
One sentence after another, Sebastian listened with fear in his heart.
He was always composesd, but when it came to the word "death", he couldn't stay calm.
"Your team will reexamine the plan," Sebastian's voice trembled, "After the research, proceed according to the plan. I have the final say in this matter."
The doctor replied and Sebastian asked the person to leave.
After a while, he looked out the window at the devouring darkness, coldly smiling, knowing that no one could take away the people he cared about from him, not even Death.
Three o'clock in the morning.
Joshua woke up slowly, and when he opened his eyes, he saw Sebastian working in his office.
"Now that you're awake, choose your words wisely and explain to me why you didn't follow the treatment plan," Sebastian didn't look up, his long fingers skillfully tapping the keyboard.
Joshua struggled to sit up, feeling weak. After hearing Sebastian's words, he was stunned.
Then, he jokingly said, "Hey, buddy, at the very least I'm a patient, can you be a bit gentle?"
"I don't have time to waste with you," Sebastian said, "If you say one more useless word, I promise you Brittany will be here within half an hour."
"No!" he exclaimed. Upon hearing that name, Joshua's carefree expression disappeared.
Sebastian looked at him sternly, and said, "So, you refuse chemotherapy because you're afraid Brittany will figure it out, right?"
Joshua didn't deny it, he smiled bitterly, and replied, "In my situation, whether I receive treatment or not doesn't make a difference. Since the outcome is predetermined, what difference does it make if I get treated?"
Sebastian gritted his teeth, veins protruding from his temples. His hand had already clenched into a fist, and blue veins snaked across his arm. "You're damn suicidal," he chided.
"My grandfather and my father both died of stomach diseases," Joshua's mouth was filled with bitterness.
He shook his head, and said, "Don't worry about me, just leave it at this. I've taken care of everything that needs to be dealt with. "For the remaining time, I'll finish the engagement ceremony and spend more time with her. That's enough."
Sebastian felt like there was a lump in his throat, unable to utter any words.
He was afraid that if he stayed any longer, Joshua would infuriate him. He closed his computer and walked out.
"Brother," Joshua called out to him, "The luckiest thing in my life is meeting her and having you."
His laughter choked up, saying, "Tell me, how are you so perceptive? How can I not hide anything from you? I was planning to create a scheme, to make you think I betrayed you, so you would kick me out."
Sebastian's throat was dry, and he wished he could turn around and strangle Joshua.
With a thousand words and countless actions, Sebastian found himself left with only one sentence in the end, "I'll start chemotherapy tomorrow, don't waste my time. If you try to deceive me again, I'll send Brittany away, and consider yesterday as your last meeting."
After saying that, Sebastian walked out of the hospital room.
He found the smoking area and lit up two cigarettes, with a troubled expression intensifying in the swirling smoke.
In the light, his back straight and his shoulders broad, no one provided a greater sense of security than him. He carried the expectations and difficulties of everyone.
Snuffing out the burning cigarette butt, Sebastian immediately contacted experts in the relevant field overseas.
The next morning, Willowbrook Estate was quiet and calm. Isabella woke up and glanced to the side.
Sebastian indeed hadn't returned.
What was he busy with?
Isabella didn't know and couldn't figure it out.
She picked up her phone and saw two messages. One was from Sebastian, asking her to rest at home, and the other was from Brittany, reassuring her and letting her know she was safe.
Feeling her heart relax, Isabella lazily stretched.
After freshening up, as she descended the stairs, the breakfast made for pregnant women was already prepared.
The butler smiled, and said, "Madam, this is a new nutrition meal for today. Mr. Lawrence specially sent the recipe, saying it's suitable for your current stage."
"All right," Isabella nodded, "Thank him for me."
The butler remarked, "Madam, Mr. Lawrence really loves you. You and the mister must live well."
Isabella ambiguously responded and sat at the dining table, staring at the complete and nutritious breakfast, sighing silently.
This act they play really covers all aspects.
However, it's ultimately beneficial to her.
Reciprocating Sebastian's feelings, Isabella thought about his upcoming birthday and planned secretly.
She turned her head, and asked, "Butler, could you arrange a car for me later? I need to go out."
The butler, Amber, happily agreed.
In the morning, Isabella visited several gift shops.
Isabella wanted to celebrate Sebastian's birthday well, despite the torment that this relationship brought. But since she met Sebastian, she didn't truly regret it.
On that rainy night, he appeared out of nowhere, extending his hand towards her. Isabella thought that scene would stay in her memory for a lifetime.
So, for this birthday, the only one they could celebrate together, Isabella didn't want to miss it or put on an act.
Even if Sebastian acted, she wouldn't. This day was important to her.
She had worked hard to give Sebastian a happier birthday so that he could feel less guilty and regretful.
