Chapter 221 A Business Trip was a Hospital Stay, the Project was Treatment
Isabella didn't care whether others disliked her or not. If they dared, they should just openly show their discontent.
After entering the elevator, Isabella pressed the floor button for her destination.
Soon, she arrived at the design department and located Brittany's office.
She still had concerns; she was worried that her presence might make Brittany uncomfortable, so Isabella hesitated outside the door and paced back and forth, debating whether to enter.
Suddenly, there was the sound of shattering glass from inside Brittany's office.
Reflexively, Isabella raised her hand and knocked vigorously on the door. "Bang, bang, bang."
But... there was no answer.
Isabella knocked again.
Still no response.
Could it be that Joshua was in there?
Isabella feared an awkward encounter if she opened the door.
No, wait...
Her heart suddenly raced as she realized that Joshua should be in a meeting right now. If Sebastian was attending, Joshua would certainly be there too.
Isabella couldn't hesitate any longer; she turned the doorknob and entered.
"Brittany!" She gasped as she stepped inside.
Brittany lay weakly on the couch while clutching her abdomen tightly; her face was pale and covered in sweat.
Below the sofa lay a shattered glass cup and spilled liquid.
"What happened to you?" Isabella rushed over and knelt down, touching Brittany's forehead, "Why are you so hot?"
"It's... you, Isabella," Brittany strained to speak, "I'm fine... just menstrual cramps."
"With each word, you press harder on your lower belly. Do you think I'd believe you?" Isabella said, "I'm calling an ambulance."
Although her own menstrual pain wasn't severe, Isabella had heard that for many, the agony could be excruciating, to the point of breaking down.
Clearly, Brittany was one of them.
On top of that, Brittany was feverish.
Isabella couldn't afford to waste time.
"Don't, please don't," Brittany resolutely rejected the idea, "I don't want people... to see me like this."
"What kind of fool are you?!" Isabella exclaimed with a sigh, "If you don't agree, then I have no choice but to contact Joshua."
Brittany grasped Isabella's hand, then let go. Her eyes were brimming red.
Seeing this, Isabella relented, "Fine, I won't call an ambulance, and I won’t tell Joshua. I'll take you myself; we won't make it a big scene."
With that, she helped Brittany to her feet and supported her out the door.
Leaving the office, Isabella could feel how feeble Brittany was; it was as if she was hanging on by a mere thread.
With each step forward, Brittany seemed to falter.
Yet even in such a weakened state, Brittany refused help and only held Isabella's hand for support, managing to curve her lips into a smile when greeted by her subordinates.
Besides sighing, there was nothing else Isabella could do.
She admired Brittany; she was so independent and strong-willed.
And Joshua... He was ruthless to have a woman like Brittany as a lover – it was nothing short of heartless.
After finally leaving the Lawrence Group building, Isabella flagged down a car and ushered Brittany in, "Driver, please go to the nearest hospital and hurry."
…
Lawrence Group's conference room.
Sebastian had long shed the playful demeanor he wore in Isabella's presence. At the conference table, he directed operations with authority and precision.
He was the king whom everyone bowed down to.
After an intense meeting ended, the department managers hurriedly scattered, escaping the low pressure of the boardroom.
"Congratulations." Joshua was the last to sit, waiting until the final person left before kicking Sebastian's foot playfully. "Becoming a dad at such a young age, not bad."
Sebastian flipped through documents, his lips pursed as he responded, "No need for jealousy."
A fleeting look of melancholy passed through Joshua's eyes, which was quickly replaced by his usual carefree demeanor. "Just laugh if you want to!"
Signing off on a document, Sebastian slid it across to Joshua, "Your projects will be handled by someone else. You take this one."
"Hey, Sebastian, have you no conscience? I've built those projects from scratch; I’ve poured my all into them..."
After flipping through a few pages, Joshua closed his mouth, swallowing hard as he fixed his gaze on Sebastian. "Medical?"
This was a lot to take in.
The folder didn't contain any project data or files but...
Treatment plans.
Schedules, names of doctors and nurses, primary treatment regimens – every detail was meticulously laid out.
It was clear that a lot of thought had been put into it.
Sebastian, still browsing through other documents, said, "This project involves a lot of travel; it is time-consuming and exhausting. You'll have to monitor it frequently; you’ll have company visits in between."
Many things were on the verge of coming to light.
The so-called business trip was a hospital stay; the so-called project was treatment...
After a moment, Joshua leaned back in his chair and cracked a smile, "Don't be like that. My next life is already promised to someone else; it won’t be yours."
"Get lost," Sebastian glared at him meaningfully.
"Can't move, Mr. Lawrence."
Sebastian spoke words only he and Joshua truly understood, "This project... Success is the only option. Failure isn't."
Joshua looked out the window, "I'll do my very best."
Sebastian pinched the bridge of his nose and stood up. "I'm off."
"Life is too short to waste," Joshua suddenly mused. "It's such a waste of time not to be with someone you truly love."
Sebastian stopped and asked indifferently, "What are you trying to say?"
"Before the meeting, I saw you and Isabella flirting," Joshua sighed, speaking words only he could dare to say, "You've never teased another like that before, have you?"
Sebastian's grip tightened, and he left the conference room in silence.
Kaine immediately approached, "Mr. Lawrence, I've just received word that Mrs. Lawrence has gone to the hospital. And with her, there was..."
Sebastian's expression darkened instantly.
The next second, he tossed a stack of documents at Kaine and, with an iron-faced stride, left abruptly.
Kaine caught the items and looked up, but where was the silhouette of his boss? Wasn't Mr. Lawrence acting a bit too anxious?
He hadn't even finished speaking, hadn't clarified the specifics, and hadn't given him the address.
Joshua strolled out of the conference room leisurely, clicking his tongue at the sight of Sebastian's flustered departure.
Afterwards, he asked Kaine, "Is Mrs. Lawrence sick?"
"Not that I know of." Kaine shook his head, equally mystified, "The message I got clearly stated the lady was accompanying Miss Everly to..."
"Snap." Another set of documents landed precisely in Kaine's arms.
Kaine secured them and looked up again, only to find that the vice president had also vanished.
Didn't the vice president need the address either??
...
Hospital.
Isabella had accompanied Brittany for an ultrasound, and then stayed with her while she was on an IV drip.
Taking advantage of Brittany sleeping, she went downstairs to buy her lunch.
The hospital cafeteria offered a variety of options. Isabella chose a few light vegetable dishes and packed a bowl of porridge.
Carrying the food, she boarded the elevator.
It was lunchtime, so many family members of patients were either buying or delivering meals to the hospital.
After Isabella entered the elevator, many people followed suit, pressing their respective floor buttons. Isabella found herself squeezed into a corner.
Holding the meals in one hand and guarding her abdomen with the other, she hoped the elevator would move faster, even just a little.
