Chapter 345: Revisiting Our Past
"Calm down," Isabella held her with utmost gentleness. "Easy, don't be afraid. It isn't your fault. You just haven't met the right person yet. I won't mock you nor pity you. Don't be afraid, okay?"
Brittany's earlier outburst gradually subsided, her hands hanging as she ceased stomping on her phone.
Allowing Isabella to embrace her, Brittany stared blankly ahead, not uttering a word, resembling a puppet being manipulated.
Near the bus stop sign, the crowd flowed past the bus stop, occasionally casting glances at the two, yet neither Isabella nor Brittany moved.
After a while—nobody knew how long—Brittany whispered to Isabella's ear in a hoarse voice, "Isabella, don't trust men. Love is nothing but a lie. Always leave yourself a way out in everything you do. Don't offer your whole heart to any else, or there will be serious consequences."
Isabella remained silent, speechless.
If murder weren't a crime, scoundrels like Joshua should be dismembered.
"I know you and Sebastian have reconciled, and you can't let him go, so hold onto him tightly. Keep him under control and make sure he can't leave you. Don't give him any chance to hurt you." Brittany's voice was chillingly calm. After speaking, she hugged Isabella tightly and then let go.
Isabella grasped her arm, her expression equally composed.
She wanted to tell Brittany not to go to see Joshua!
But such simple words carried immense weight, rendering Isabella speechless.
Brittany could avoid him this time, and then what? She couldn't keep Brittany from getting hurt by Joshua forever.
She and Brittany were both powerless against Joshua.
When it came to Joshua, she and Sebastian were on opposite sides.
Sebastian would never intervene in the matters between Joshua and Brittany.
But letting Brittany leave like this was something Isabella couldn't bring herself to do.
"It's nothing," Brittany peeled Isabella's hand off. "It's the last day, and I really need to start living my own life."
A faint smile curved her lips, determination and longing gleaming in her eyes.
She was trying to seek joy in hardship.
Isabella tugged at the corner of her mouth. "Let the driver take you."
She raised her chin, signaling to the driver by the roadside.
Shaking her head, Brittany said, "There's still time. It's close by. The bus passes right there. I don't even need a cab."
Almost on cue, the bus arrived as they spoke.
Isabella watched as Brittany boarded.
Sitting in her seat, Brittany waved to Isabella through the window.
As the bus pulled away and headed forward, Isabella's figure disappeared from Brittany's view. The smile on her lips slowly faded.
Leaning back in her seat, Brittany gazed at the passing scenery, watching the buildings become familiar and eventually become a part of her heart.
