Chapter 411 Just Be Good

Isabella couldn't spit out anything, still the nausea was unbearable.

Listening to Sebastian's voice, she almost reflexively wanted to vomit.

She didn't want to hear his sweet talk anymore!

"Isabella," Sebastian's Adam's apple bobbed, and after a while, he finally found his voice and asked, "Do you find me disgusting?"

Isabella looked at him in the mirror and retorted, "Are you not disgusting?"

Saying such words made Isabella's heartache.

Her arms trembled slightly as she leaned on the sink, unable to stop shaking no matter how hard she tried to control it.

She didn't understand how saying such hurtful words could hurt herself.

Sebastian swallowed, but he couldn't suppress the bitterness and soreness in his throat.

He slowly relaxed his brows and said lightly, "I'll pretend you didn't say that. Come here, be good."

Isabella couldn't be as calm as Sebastian. Staring into Sebastian's tolerant and steady eyes made Isabella feel like Sebastian was looking at a child throwing a tantrum.

His eyes seemed to ask her, "What are you dissatisfied with? Why are you throwing a fit?"

"Sebastian," Isabella said, her voice thick with suppressed anger and frustration as she faced him directly. "We need to take a break."

Sebastian blinked, clearly not understanding her at first. After a moment, his eyes narrowed dangerously. "What do you mean?"

Isabella bit her lip, squeezed her eyes shut, and said, barely above a whisper, "Divorce."

The menace in Sebastian's gaze seemed to evaporate, replaced by a sickly-sweet smile. He reached out and gently brushed Isabella's forehead, his voice dripping with feigned concern. "Are you running a fever?"

Isabella opened her eyes, the moisture within them shimmering but not falling. She struggled to keep her voice steady. "I'm not sick, and I'm not joking. Every word I'm saying is the truth. Sebastian, just hearing you talk makes me physically nauseous. When I see you, all I can think about is the harm Lynda caused me and your lies. I can't live with you anymore. I'm not the one who can't live without you. I can leave. So let me go."

Sebastian's smile vanished, replaced by an even darker, more dangerous expression. His eyes, once calm, now roiled with anger. He had never imagined Isabella would ask for a divorce.

The idea of divorce was absurd to him!

Suppressing the flames of fury within him, he managed to speak with forced calm. He gently cupped Isabella's face in his hands, lowering his voice. "Isabella, I'm sorry. From now on, I'll be good to you. No one will love you more than I do, and no one will ever replace you, not even the child. I'll shower you with all my affection. Just be a little more reasonable and take back what you said, okay?"

Isabella stared at him, her shock evident as her pupils dilated. The term "be reasonable" sounded so affectionate, yet it felt like a knife twisting in her heart, causing cold sweat to break out all over her body.

For a moment, she was frozen, staring at Sebastian's familiar face with a look of utter disbelief.

Slowly, as if moving in a dream, she brushed his hand away and took a stiff step back. "Is wanting Lynda to pay a price unreasonable? Or is wanting a divorce after being deceived unreasonable?"

Each time she uttered the word "divorce," Sebastian's expression grew gloomier and more troubled.

He reached out, grabbing Isabella's arm to stop her from retreating further.

His eyes, now blazing with suppressed rage, locked onto hers. "Don't say that word again. Don't ever say it! It can never come out of your mouth again!"

Sebastian instinctively wanted Isabella to comply, but remembering her aversion, he bit his tongue.

Worried that his stern expression might frighten her, he crouched down, reaching for her delicate ankle.

Isabella tried to pull away, but Sebastian's deep voice stopped her. "Stay still, it's cold."

He was dressed in a high-end, custom-made suit, impeccably tailored, but now, as he crouched, creases formed along his waist, marring his usually pristine appearance.

Normally obsessed with his image, he seemed to disregard it completely at this moment.

Looking around the room for a towel, he found nothing, so he simply wiped his wet foot on his suit with a nonchalant air.

Isabella watched him, frustration clear in her eyes. "Sebastian, can you stop with this? When I follow your plans, you praise me for being good. When I go against you, I'm suddenly not good enough. You're treating me like a pet, not a person. Stop pretending…"

He gripped her ankle tightly, leaving her no chance to escape.

She began to speak again but choked on her words when she saw his actions. Everything she wanted to say got stuck in her throat.

With his touch, he meticulously cleaned her foot and neatly placed her slippers back on.

Through his actions, Sebastian was showing her that she wasn't just a pet to him—that he cherished her deeply.

She thought, 'But if that were true, why does he keep protecting Lynda, repeatedly deceiving me for Lynda's sake?'

Isabella's nerves were taut, her body as rigid as a drawn bow. Her hands hung at her sides, fists clenched and trembling.

She bit her lip and stared at him from head to toe, unable to read his face in the dimly lit bathroom. The lack of light made it impossible to see his expression, and with his head lowered, his emotions remained hidden.

Isabella couldn't see through him.

Maybe she never truly had.

"Dinner's ready. Let's head down," Sebastian said as he straightened up.

Isabella stayed put, silent for a moment, before suddenly grabbing his arm.

Her voice trembled as she spoke, "Sebastian, if those words upset you, I won't say them. But will you hand over the evidence to the police and let the law deal with Lynda?"

She was pleading with him.

"You told me I could be fearless in Maple Valley," she continued, invoking the promises he once made. "You said you loved me, and I heard it. If you truly love me, you should protect and cherish me, right?"

Her hand was pressed against his arm, gripping it tightly, her sweat soaking into his skin.

She was anxious.

The fear of rejection gnawed at her, a blade poised to stab at her heart.

She had asked before, back at Pine Ridge Gardens.

But this time, she was laying all her courage on the line.

It was almost as if she was wagering her entire dignity.

She couldn't bear to let this relationship slip away. She loved Sebastian and wanted one last chance to fight for what they had.
