Chapter 208 Sebastian Secretly Meets Marcus's Father
Her every move was capable of overthrowing a nation.
"It doesn't matter," Peter looked at him, "Something big happened in New York yesterday; did you hear about it?"
"Marcus got injured?"
"To be precise, he was robbed by a thug, all his valuable items were taken, and he ended up being stabbed." Peter said, "He's still in the hospital."
Jarod instantly furrowed his brows, "I only heard about the injury, as for how it happened... I'm not clear."
"I'm telling you now, aren't I?" Peter sat down, crossed his legs, and rested his hand on his forehead, "By the way, Isabella was also present at the time."
Jarod's expression changed again, "What happened?"
"I guess, it's related to the last meeting between Lynda and Grace."
"Was it their plot?"
"I'm ninety percent sure it was," Peter answered, "But such things are hard to find evidence for, you know."
In the business world, the intrigue and wars between men were relatively easy to investigate. But this matter, after all, was not work-related; it was a family affair. It was not impossible to investigate, but it was rather awkward.
"Sebastian probably wouldn't be deceived." Jarod pondered for a moment, then replied, "He knows what's going on."
"Oh, you trust him so much? What if Sebastian is the type who can't resist the charms of a beautiful woman, and Lynda just needs to stir up a little trouble, and he falls for it, what then?"
"Impossible."
"Alright, you're right." Peter picked up his coffee and took a sip, "Last night, he went to see Lynda. He looked very upset when he left."
Jarod let out a sigh of relief, "It's good that he can stay clear-headed."
"Yes, he's smarter than I thought. I thought he was so in love with Lynda, that he'd be completely smitten, but it turns out..."
"It just shows that you don't understand us, the Lawrence family." Jarod looked at him, "Even when I was so in love with Joyce, I wouldn't believe everything she said or did unconditionally. I always had my own judgment."
Peter laughed, "Are you saying that Joyce couldn't influence you?"
He glared at him.
"Cut it out, Jarod. When you were in love with her, if she told you to jump, you would ask 'how high?'. Now you're standing here talking as if it was nothing."
Even though Peter had given him a harsh retort, Jarod didn't get angry. Instead, a smile appeared at the corner of his lips.
He replied, "Peter, perhaps you should really try to love someone properly. It's a wonderful feeling."
"By your logic, why don't you try to let go of Joyce and love someone else?"
"It's not the same. In this life, you only have one true love. Once she's gone, you can’t find another in the whole world."
Peter touched the cigarette box, resisting the urge to smoke.
He changed the subject, "As for Sebastian, I've only found some clues. But what I can confirm is that... in the half month before the day he and Isabella got their marriage certificate, he did a lot of things."
"Like what?"
"All I can tell you is that he has been planning... to marry Isabella for a while. It's not a whim, nor is it to oppose the Lawrence family."
Jarod's expression turned serious, "No wonder I had never heard of Isabella before, and he just married her."
"It's not that he just married her." Peter replied, "Before that, he did his homework."
"What have you found so far?"
Peter held the cigarette box, tapping it lightly on the table, making a "da-da" sound.
He said, "He once met Marcus' father."
"When?"
"Just the day before Isabella went to the Cooper family to plead for a loan. Sebastian secretly and low-key met Marcus' father; I don't know what they talked about."
Jarod was taken aback.
"I'll continue to investigate," Peter stood up, "I believe there will be clues soon."
Jarod sat down, his expression heavy as he flung himself deep into thought.
"Your brother is not inferior to you. It's just that he's not as lucky as you; he doesn’t know for sure who he loves."
Jarod glanced at him, "What do you mean?"
"I think, his previous actions seemed to be protecting Lynda. But now, the things he's doing make me feel like he's protecting Isabella. He might not even know who he really wants to protect."
"You're saying... he might have different feelings for Isabella?"
Peter shrugged, smiled, and didn't say anything else, "I'm leaving."
Leaving Jarod to continue pondering.
In just a few days, Peter was able to find out that Sebastian had secretly met Marcus' father, which was quite quick.
But what did Sebastian do when he met Marcus' father?
The Cooper family and the Lawrence family didn't have much overlap or friendship, and in business, they were just acquaintances.
To put it bluntly, the Cooper family had to curry favor with Sebastian and stay in the good graces of the Lawrence Group.
So why did Sebastian go to see Marcus' father? At that time, Marcus was still Isabella's fiancé.
He was utterly puzzled.
Hospital.
Sebastian stood in the corridor with his hands behind his back, looking quite nervous and a bit haggard.
After all... he hadn't slept all night.
Now, Isabella was inside getting checked.
The hospital had already arranged for the most experienced obstetrics and gynecology director to perform the check and get the results as soon as possible.
Sebastian wanted to accompany her, but Isabella wouldn't let him.
Sebastian was somewhat anxious from waiting. He wanted to push the door and go in several times, but thinking about her cold expression, he held back.
Yes, he had now fallen to the point... where he had to look at Isabella's face to know what to do.
After about half an hour, the door to the examination room finally opened.
Isabella walked out, with a nurse following her and carefully supporting her, "Mr. Lawrence, Mrs. Lawrence, the examination is over. Please wait for a while in the director's office."
"Thank you," Isabella said.
"You're welcome, Mrs. Lawrence."
Sebastian took her from the nurse, his large hand firmly supporting her, "Did everything go smoothly?"
"It's just an examination, not surgery; what's there to go smoothly or not." Isabella answered indifferently, "I'm just a bit tired."
"Then, do you want some water? Or something to eat?"
She shook her head.
While sitting in the office of the director of obstetrics and gynecology, Isabella remained silent.
Sebastian glanced at her, then pursed his lips, still not knowing what to say.
In the end, it was Isabella who spoke first, "When I went downstairs today, I saw you sleeping on the sofa... When did you come back?"
"A little after one in the morning."
"You came back so early..." she was somewhat surprised, "It was almost midnight when you left."
