Chapter 103 Your Heart Hasn't Returned to Me
Isabella got up, turned off the lights, got into bed, closed her eyes, and forced herself to sleep.
Sleep, and when you wake up, it will be a brand new day.
When the clock pointed to twelve, Sebastian looked at Lynda lying next to him, then at his own arm that she was using as a pillow.
He... had considered going back to Willowbrook Estate.
However, Lynda said she was afraid.
It was normal for a girl to be afraid when living alone in a hotel, even though it was a six-star hotel with good security, and nothing would happen.
But when Lynda spoke up, Sebastian stayed.
Sebastian couldn't sleep, he was wide awake, counting the passing time with his eyes almost open.
Unable to fall asleep, he took another glance at Lynda beside him, then gently tried to retract his arm and got out of bed.
Just as his feet touched the ground, he heard Lynda's voice from behind him, "Where are you going?"
Sebastian paused, "You're awake?"
"I... I haven't actually slept at all," Lynda looked at him, "I couldn't fall asleep either."
"It's late, you had a long flight today, aren't you tired?"
"Tired. But, Sebastian, even though you're next to me, your heart hasn't returned to me."
The room fell silent.
Sebastian turned around and looked at her, "You're overthinking, Lynda."
"I wish I were overthinking, but, Sebastian, there are some things I know I shouldn't say, shouldn't be stubborn, shouldn't cause you trouble or make you angry. But since we've reached this point, I think it's better to talk about it."
Sebastian walked over to the side sofa, sat down, and picked the lighter up from the table, twirling it in his hand.
Lynda sat up on the bed, gripping the sheets, and looked at him.
"When I was abroad, I learned about your marriage. I was angry, I threw a tantrum, didn't answer your calls, and didn't eat..." Lynda said, "You comforted me, saying it was for my own good."
"I believed you, Sebastian. I obediently listened to you, I calmly accepted treatment, I followed your arrangements. You said you had to marry her before you could marry me. I don't know if that statement is true or false, but I was so happy at that time..."
"My biggest dream was to marry you. I secretly came back to the country without you knowing. When you saw me, your first reaction wasn't surprise or touched, but displeasure. You furrowed your brows, so calm."
"After Isabella appeared, your gaze was even more focused on her. You care about her, Sebastian, that's the truth."
The lighter in Sebastian's hand snapped shut, making a crisp sound.
"You're overthinking." He met Lynda's gaze, "I've told you the reason why I married Isabella."
"I know, I believe..."
"But now, I believe more in what I have seen with my own eyes."
"What did you see?"
"I saw how you care for her, how you pay attention to her, how you protect her! I see that even though you sleep by my side, your heart still thinks of her!"
Sebastian frowned, "What are you saying, Lynda."
"Don't you dare deny it?"
"There's nothing to admit."
Lynda shook her head, “I don’t believe you, Sebastian. I’m so scared now, my heart is beating so fast, I’m really afraid of losing you...”
“You’re overthinking.”
"I wish I was, that I'm just being insecure." Lynda looked at him, a pained expression on her face. "But I love you too much, Sebastian. I can't be without you, you know that. If I leave you, I will die."
Sebastian replied, "If you're worried about me having feelings for Isabella, it's baseless."
"Is that so?"
"My actions will show you everything."
Lynda clutched the blanket again, her face pale. "I still choose to believe you, Sebastian. Even if one day you stop loving me, don't tell me. I already know, I will really die..."
Seeing her expression deteriorate, Sebastian immediately got up and walked to her side. "What's wrong?"
Lynda bit her lip and pointed at the medication. “Medicine...medicine...”
He quickly fetched the medicine, brought some water, and watched Lynda take it.
Her body... was still weak.
After taking the medicine, Lynda's expression slightly improved.
Sebastian propped a pillow behind her, making her more comfortable.
"My sickly body... is burdensome to you, Sebastian." Lynda held his hand. "If it weren't for my illness, we would have been married long ago, supporting each other, even having children, right?"
Sebastian pursed his lips and held her hand. "There are no 'what ifs.'"
"But it's all my fault. Our relationship is dragging on because of me, burdening you, placing so much pressure on you."
"You don't need to worry about these things."
“I feel guilty, Sebastian.” Lynda’s eyes welled up with tears again. “Because of me, you have to stand up to the Lawrence’s. Because of me, you have had to marry Isabella to pave the way for me to return to you..."
Sebastian interrupted her, "Enough, Lynda, you really need to rest."
"Hold me, Sebastian, hold me, please?"
He reached out and embraced her, but his expression was grave.
He couldn't bear to hear any more of Lynda's words.
Although he was the one doing all of these things, each and every one of them, right now, Sebastian felt... he was truly sorry for Isabella.
If he didn't go back home today, how would she manage on her own? Would she feel safe? Protected? Would she even fall asleep on her own...
What if she's alone? Will she have nightmares?
The next day, Isabella went downstairs and the butler greeted her, saying, "Madam."
"Good morning, butler," she greeted him with a smile, "Is breakfast ready?"
"It's already prepared..."
"That's good," Isabella nodded, "Is there anything else?"
"Mr. Lawrence said he'll be back for breakfast," the butler replied, "Do you want to wait for Mr. Lawrence or have your breakfast first?"
"Oh... he's coming back," Isabella realized.
After spending the night outside of their home, they still had to have breakfast at home.
Who does he think he's trying to impress?
He better not bring Lynda back!
Isabella thought she had already compromised enough, and if he pushed her further, she would explode!
"I'll have my breakfast, and he can have his," Isabella said, "I really don’t see the need for anyone to wait."
She went to the dining room, looking at the abundant Chinese breakfast in front of her, but she didn't really have an appetite.
Nevertheless, she forced herself to eat, knowing that she needed the energy to work, to study, to deal with Sebastian... to navigate through it all.
From the moment Isabella saw Lynda, she knew that the final barrier between her and Sebastian had been torn down.
They could finally face each other honestly.
She knew that everything he had done—marrying her, wanting a child—was all for that Lynda.
