Chapter 425 Meeting with Samuel

Joshua's chest felt like it was on fire one second, then freezing the next, like some twisted rollercoaster of pain.

He was in serious agony.

Isabella and Brittany slipped out of the elevator without a word.

In the hospital lobby, Brittany stopped and turned to Isabella, saying, "Isabella, I might still need to go on a business trip. This project is huge. It's a big deal for my career and the future of the company's design department. I've thought it over, and I still need to go."

Her hair was tied up in a neat ponytail in the elevator, her face clean without a single tear, no tears on her eyelashes, and her eyes looked calm.

To everyone else, Brittany probably seemed like this strong, independent woman.

But to Isabella, Brittany was just a mess, worn out, and barely holding it together.

Work was just an excuse; she just wanted to delay the abortion a little longer.

Isabella didn't call her out.

She nodded lightly. "It's your call, but I think you should chill for a bit. Half of what you make for Sebastian is mine, so I can take a little less."

Isabella had to say it in a light-hearted tone.

"Make a little more for you," Brittany chuckled.

Isabella laughed, "Alright."

They kept chatting and laughing, acting like Brittany's pregnancy wasn't even a thing.

By the curb, Brittany flagged down a car, and after Isabella got in, she leaned in and said, "Isabella, you go ahead. I need to go home to grab some stuff and then hit the hotel for my luggage."

"Alright," Isabella played along, waving her hand. "Go ahead."

Brittany couldn't stand seeing Isabella's forced smile, so she turned away and quickly shut the car door.

The door closed slowly, the driver started the car, and the distance between Isabella and Brittany grew.

Brittany watched Isabella leave, the car disappearing into the traffic. She immediately turned around, walking quickly, passing one person after another, heading back to the hospital, and squeezing into the elevator.

She returned to the bench, bent over, and started digging through the trash can for those papers.

After searching for a while, Brittany found nothing.

Those papers were gone.

Just a few minutes, how could they be gone?

Did someone come to clean up the trash?

Brittany stared blankly, then curled her lips into a sarcastic smile.

This was telling her that this child shouldn't be kept, that she shouldn't have any illusions, right?

Brittany stood up in despair and left, looking lost.

"What's going on today? Just now, there was a guy rummaging through the trash can. He was crying so pitifully," a nurse whispered behind Brittany.

Brittany took a few more steps before stopping.

"Does that person know the woman?"

Brittany clenched her hands tightly, recalling Sebastian's warning to her today.

The nurse who spoke first said again, "Probably not. That guy didn't look like he matched that lady. Maybe he's the one responsible for cleaning the trash in the hospital. His clothes looked like they were picked up from somewhere, too big and ill-fitting. One shabby, one a typical rich beauty."

"Don't talk nonsense," the other nurse's voice lowered, "Let's go, back to work."

The nurse's voice scattered Brittany's floating thoughts.

She didn't stay any longer and left.

Isabella clutched her phone tight, eyes closed, trying to catch some rest on the ride.

At the hotel entrance, she scanned the code to pay and hopped out of the car.

It was almost noon, and the sun was blazing, casting shadows on the ground. Isabella shielded her eyes and made her way to the hotel.

A few steps in, her phone buzzed with a message from Samuel, saying he needed to talk.

Before she could even ask what it was about, Samuel sent an address.

Isabella glanced at the street sign and realized she was already on the same street Samuel mentioned.

Checking the location, she saw she was just a five-minute walk away.

Following the GPS, she headed in that direction.

Since Isabella's call, Sebastian had been on edge.

He figured Isabella asking for leave for Brittany meant something was up with Brittany.

Even though Isabella seemed fine, he couldn't shake the worry.

Pushing back a morning meeting, Sebastian watched the two red dots on his phone screen get closer and closer.

Bit by bit, their locations almost overlapped.

Sebastian looked up.

It was a pretty ordinary bubble tea shop.

The place was small and tucked away, but it was busy. In just a few minutes, a dozen people had come and gone. Plus, there were more customers inside.

The shop felt a bit cramped.

He thought, 'Is this bubble tea really that good?'

Sebastian frowned, scanning for Isabella.

After a quick look, he didn't spot her. No sign of Isabella among the folks lining up at the counter.

Feeling uneasy, Sebastian's furrowed brows showed his tension and worry.

He stared at the small shop ahead, grabbed his phone, and was about to check Isabella's location again when he saw Samuel walk into view.

Samuel was holding something, heading straight for the bubble tea shop.

Sebastian squinted, sensing something was off. He opened the car door, got out, and walked directly to the shop.

Inside, he realized it was a two-story place, with a staircase connecting the floors.

Sebastian calmly unbuttoned his cufflinks, his watch catching the light and reflecting a cold white glow.

The sound of his shiny leather shoes hitting the wooden floor was dull.

In a corner on the second floor, Isabella was slumped over a table, feeling miserable.

Her chest felt tight, her limbs weak, and she was dizzy.

After chatting with Samuel for a few minutes, she started feeling cold, with sweat forming on her forehead and back.

Unable to bear it, Isabella had to send Samuel away.

Even though they'd been in contact recently, they weren't close. They were just business partners, and she didn't want to show any weakness in front of him.

After lying down for a bit, Isabella felt sleepy. Half asleep, she heard the chair opposite her being pulled, making a rough sound against the floor.

Isabella rubbed her head but didn't look up, mumbling, "Sorry, this seat's taken."

More sounds came, and Isabella guessed someone had sat across from her.

She felt a bit annoyed, a little irritated.

Groggily, she propped herself up and opened her eyes.

Samuel was resting his chin on his arm, raising an eyebrow at her, "So, besides me, someone else has an appointment with Mrs. Lawrence?"
