Chapter 293 How Are You So Good at Acting?
Brittany asked, "Acting?"
Isabella replied, "Yes, Sebastian confessed to me a week ago, saying he liked me."
Brittany then asked, "Confessed?"
In the recording, Sebastian heard Isabella seemingly let out a cold laugh. "Yes, he confessed, but it was just his act."
"Are you sure?" Brittany doubted.
Isabella replied, "I'm sure."
Afterward, there was a moment of silence, with only faint background noise.
After waiting for a while, Sebastian thought their conversation was over. But suddenly, he heard Brittany comforting Isabella, saying, "It's in the past, it can be forgotten."
Then, Isabella's disdainful mockery reached Sebastian's ears. "Yeah, it's in the past, don't worry about me. Besides, who doesn't make mistakes? Sebastian has lied to me many times, who would still trust him? I stopped believing in him a long time ago."
Britanny said, "Isabella, don't deceive yourself in front of me."
Isabella replied, "I'm not deceiving you. I truly have no expectations, no feelings for him. The things you've seen recently are all acting. We're all acting, let's see who's the better actor."
The recording ended there.
With the last sentence, Isabella sounded confident and proud. Sebastian could even imagine her humming a tune and raising her chin.
Sebastian's expression changed rapidly. In the few seconds after listening, his gaze couldn't focus. His once sharp eyes were distracted.
She really treated his confession like this?
If she didn't believe his words, fine, but to turn around and talk about him to others?
Acting? Including last night, she has been acting all along?
How dare she? How could she really do this?
Sebastian's heart was brutally torn apart. And not just torn apart, someone was also stomping on it and spitting on it.
He had never experienced this kind of pain before.
"Mr. Lawrence," Kaine knocked on the door and entered. "The financial report for last quarter..."
Sebastian ordered, "Go away."
With just two simple words, Kaine's heart trembled. "Yes," he replied.
He quickly stepped back and closed the door.
Did Mr. Lawrence have another argument with his wife?
Kaine speculated to himself, but inside the room, there was complete silence, as if nothing had happened.
However, Kaine seemed to forget that Sebastian was always like this. The angrier he got, the calmer he became.
The more it hurt, the more difficult it was, the more he could bear it.
Sebastian stared intensely at the computer screen and deleted that audio.
Sebastian never thought that one day he would resent his exceptional memory.
Because of Isabella and Brittany's conversation, now it was etched in his mind word for word, even the tones left a deep impression on him.
Sebastian tightened his fist slowly and smiled a cruel and dangerous smile.
Impressive indeed.
Isabella, you truly are impressive.
Isabella, how did you become such a skilled actress?
Sebastian's Adam's apple rolled, his gaze ice-cold. He stood up and strode out of the office.
"Mr. Lawrence," Brittany approached with several files, coincidentally running into Sebastian as he exited.
She said, "Mr. Sinclair hasn't been at the company lately, so the decision-making in the design department has been at a standstill. What do you think...?"
There was a hint of bloodshot in the corners of Sebastian's eyes, but he didn't show any sign of strangeness.
He just glanced at Brittany with an unclear meaning and spoke in a cold tone as if infused with ice, "Miss Everly, don't you want to know where he is?"
Brittany was momentarily stunned. After exchanging a glance with Sebastian, she lowered her head and spoke respectfully but distantly, "Mr. Lawrence, I have nothing to do with Mr. Sinclair's affairs."
"Is that so?" Sebastian sneered. "No wonder you're Mrs. Lawrence's friend, heartless, I must say."
Brittany couldn't figure out the meaning behind Sebastian's words. She inwardly furrowed her delicate eyebrows.
But before she could delve further into her thoughts, Sebastian spoke again, "Send the files to me after scanning them."
After speaking, he left.
Brittany stood in her spot, a hint of confusion in her eyes.
She was curious about what Sebastian's words meant.
She was heartless? Was Isabella heartless? But the cruelest... wouldn't it be him and his good friend?
Was this boss of hers joking?
Brittany found it quite ridiculous. She held onto the documents and turned around, heading back to the design department to carry out Sebastian's instructions.
Sebastian went to the garage to retrieve his car. With great speed, the car rushed out of the garage and soon returned to Willowbrook Estate.
The butler enthusiastically greeted him, "Mr. Lawrence, why have you returned? Is there any information you need me to find for you?"
Sebastian strode towards the house, and asked, "Where is she?"
The butler naturally understood that "she" referred to his wife. "Madam said she didn't sleep well yesterday and is currently catching up on her sleep," he answered.
Sebastian sneered. Didn't sleep well?
Being with him for meals and sleep really inconvenienced her.
"Mr. Lawrence, should I wake Madam up?" The butler asked as he noticed that Sebastian's expression was off.
"No need," Sebastian said. "I don't need to inform her about my return."
"Ah?" The butler's heart sank slightly, but he didn't dare to ask more or go against Sebastian.
The butler replied, "Understood, Mr. Lawrence."
Sebastian walked directly towards the side bedroom.
The butler nervously guarded one end of the corridor, feeling as if something was about to erupt.
Sebastian stepped inside, greeted by a warm and sweet atmosphere. However, the taste in his mouth was extremely bitter, and a heavy feeling pressed on his chest.
As Sebastian walked forward, his gaze fell upon the photographs, the colored lights, and the untouched projector in the room. All of these things that had brought him so much joy yesterday now inflicted him with pain.
They had all turned into arrows, piercing his heart and causing him anguish. How could he have known that this dreamlike world would turn out to be a mere illusion?
Sebastian looked at the photographs, from his childhood to adulthood, and each one seemed to mock the present him, laughing at his foolishness.
He tried to control himself, drawing upon years of top-notch education and experience in the business world. Compared to the billions he had lost due to his past failures, this was nothing.
But Sebastian couldn't bear it. He couldn't endure the pain. The battles in the business world only stimulated his physical body, and external pain was something a man should be able to endure.
By enduring, he had naturally developed a protective armor. But now, the pain within him was unbearable.
Every word Isabella had said pierced his heart. Sebastian tightly grasped his hand, then raised it forcefully, ripping off the strings of colored lights along with the photographs.
He then approached the small refrigerator in the room, opened it, and took out the unfinished cake from yesterday. Without hesitation, he hurled it towards the projector right in front of him.
What was once cherished yesterday has become repulsive today. He wanted to destroy it all, to destroy his own foolishness.
The cozy little room that existed just a few minutes ago now lay in ruins.
