Chapter 257 This is the Recording, It Will Help You Find the Evidence

Isabella pulled out her smartphone, went through some things, and handed it over to Sebastian. "This is a recording I got, Sebastian."

Sebastian's Adam's apple moved, his expression fiercer than before. "Isabella! Do you think I wouldn't trust you? I’m your legitimate husband, and even if I don’t show you favor, do you think I’d believe the words of that despicable man?”

Isabella was dumbfounded, already acting under the influence of a potent medication that clouded her mind. Sebastian's intense attitude left her innocently blinking in confusion.

Yet, her heart felt warm and toasty.

She felt oddly touched by the scolding. Isabella thought to herself that the drug’s effects were incredibly powerful.

She eagerly looked at him and said, "No, that's not it; this recording is the evidence you needed."

Her mouth felt scalding hot, forcibly swallowing as she stuttered out, "I guessed that you wanted to fire him, but couldn't find the proof to do so. So, I got it for you. He admitted it... he's been embezzling company funds…"

A powerful surge of heat raced from Sebastian's tailbone up his spine. He remained still, not blinking an eye.

In an instant, his heart felt as if it had been completely struck by something.

He caught Isabella's wrist, gripping it tighter and tighter.

On the verge of being completely overwhelmed by the drug's effects, Isabella needed his firm grasp to weakly say, "You can deal with him now. This man… Doesn’t deserve to lead the branch office."

Unable to take his eyes off Isabella, Sebastian could only watch while unable to respond as he normally would.

Being in control had always been his way of life, accustomed to being a strong leader. This was the first time someone stepped up to protect him.

Even if it was foolish and naive, he found it... Incredibly satisfying.

This satisfaction he felt was similar to when he first learnt he was going to be a father.

He said in a low tone, "Isabella, don’t risk yourself for me– that's a warning. Don’t walk into danger for my sake, or let any other man take advantage of you!"

He was quite intimidating at the moment, saying every word through clenched teeth.

Isabella's mind lingered in a haze. The man’s tone was harsh, but somehow, his fierce words pounded on her heart.

When he didn’t get an immediate response, he hugged her silently, "Did you hear me?"

"Mhm…” Isabella gently pushed him away, "You should listen to the recording."

Sebastian grunted in acknowledgment. He played the recording, the disgraceful sounds filling his ears.

His grip creaked as he clenched his fist, his eyes bloodshot from uncontrollable rage. Even Isabella, standing nearby, shuddered.

She grabbed his wrist. "Sebastian, calm down..."

"I can't." he pried her hand off. "Just wait for me."

He bent over and picked up the leather belt Thomas had dropped.

Propping himself up on the floor, Thomas staggered to his feet and turned to run.

He didn't know what else to do except flee. This Assistant Wallace was actually Mrs. Lawrence! Not only was her identity terrifying, but she also recorded his previous words!

From their conversation, he heard clearly that Sebastian was considering layoffs.

In addition to that, he had been exposed; everything was ruined!

Thomas ran, his body fat trembling. He had one thought— he couldn’t let Sebastian catch him.

Suddenly, a belt looped around his neck and tightened.

It was the same belt he unbuckled earlier.

Thomas tried to pull it off, but Sebastian was intent on killing him, relentlessly tightening it. His face turned red with purple lips, turning pale afterward.

In the silent corridor, Thomas's screams eerily mixed with the recorded laughter from Isabella's phone.

Sebastian indifferently let go, kicking Thomas aside. The latter hit the wall like a rag doll.

Eyes red with rage, Sebastian kept approaching. On the other hand, Thomas retreating backward.

Anger, frustration, bloodlust—Sebastian couldn't suppress these emotions.

Thomas deserved to die immediately, but he couldn't be too cruel in front of Isabella. It would scare her.

Moreover, she was pregnant and shouldn't see blood.

"Thud, thud, thud."

The sound of footsteps coming upstairs grew louder, and within moments, a group of police arrived.

Smiling coldly, Sebastian muttered, "You're lucky."

With that, he walked over to Isabella.

Seeing the police rushing up the stairs, Isabella was stunned for a few seconds. This was a mountainous area; how did they arrive so promptly?

No, Sebastian probably didn’t call the police.

Could it be...? Realization struck her, recalling the phone call Sebastian made earlier.

He must’ve contacted the police, having them surround the area in advance. He had figured everything out!

"Mr. Sawyer, you’re suspected of being involved in financial crime. Please come with us," The officers showed their badges and took Thomas into custody.

Soon, two more officers came in to greet Sebastian as they went inside to take Thomas away as well.

The police arrived quickly and departed just as fast, leaving the floor in silence.

Isabella knew the employees celebrating downstairs would soon plunge into deep panic.

She confidently said, "You had the evidence all along, but you waited until today to have the police take Thomas away during celebration to create a deterrent effect—a fall from grace."

"Sebastian, even if Thomas hadn't suggested the team-building event, someone else would’ve done that. The branch office is a mess; rotten from the ground up. If you fire all the problematic employees, it won't be able to function."

"That's why you need to instill fear instead and keep them on edge. The ones with minor issues would be discouraged from misdeeds following this event, while those with more serious ones will be unsettled by Sawyer's fate and might try to destroy evidence to save themselves. This not only allows you to take complete control, but also gives you time to find suitable replacements."

Sebastian couldn't take his eyes off her as she analyzed the situation and laid her thoughts bare.

He usually hated it when women assumed they knew his thoughts, but his heart only felt ease when listening to Isabella dissect his plans.

She knew exactly what was on his mind.

It was dangerous, yet somehow comforting, as if... He wasn't struggling alone anymore, especially after learning about Joshua's situation.

"Congratulations, Mr. Lawrence." Isabella lowered her head in embarrassment. "I'll go back to my room to rest now; Have a good night."

She felt so dumb, thinking she had learned so much from Sebastian, only to realize it was superficial.

How could Sebastian fail to procure evidence?

She was utterly embarrassed.

Isabella stood up straight and, with the wall’s support, made her way to her room.
